The unique terroir is created by the gentle slopes and the magnificent exposure to the sun. The soil benefits from its granite origins with areas of schist and clay. This is very unusual in Vinho Verde Region. 2 In the Vinho Verde Region, Celorico de Basto has a microclimate provided by mountains in the west and the river valley Tamega that, unlike the other rivers of the region does not run from east to west, but from northeast to southwest, which together prevent the influence of the Atlantic winds. Therefore, the weather is less rainy and has greater temperature ranges, this means that our vineyard is subject to more sun than perhaps other vineyards in the Vinho Verde Region, important factors for the development of the vine. Moreover, the average altitude of the Quinta da Raza is 250 meters, which corresponds to the average altitude necessary for the best development of vines. 3 Quinta da Raza`s history goes back to the XVII Century and it has remained in the same family ever since. The vineyard has always been the main farming interest due to the importance of the high quality of the grapes produced. These range from Azal, Arinto, Vinhão to Alvarinho, which are unique grape varieties from the Vinho Verde Region. The wine, produced exclusively with our grapes, is modern, fresh, well-balanced and a unique wine due to its heritage. The Raza vineyard won the prize for best vineyard in 1999 at the International Fair of Galiza, Spain, and it was also a prize- winner, in 2002, 2003, 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2013 at the Contest of the “Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region”. We believe that we can produce high quality wine only if we have high quality grapes. When our costumers drink our wine they should have the same pleasure as if they were biting a grape. Since 1987 Diogo Teixeira Coelho has continued the family tradition of Vinho Verde production. Diogo was honoured with the title of “The Grape Grower of the year 2008”, by the “Viticulture Commission of the Vinho Verde Region” and this was the only time this award has ever been made. Despite the use of modern technology related to oenology, the traditional wine producing techniques have been maintained. The picking by hand and the treading of the grapes as well as the use of the 100 year old stone tanks is carried out by local people with a heritage of preservation experience. of the The vineyard environment has also been of prime importance. Us and our Environment Here at Raza are very privileged to be surrounded by beautiful scenery and a dramatic landscape. Within our locality too the flora and wildlife are diverse and quite unique. We don’t need alarm clocks to wake us in the mornings! Our Vineyards All our agricultural practices attempt as far as possible to take a holistic view of our environment. This has meant we have geared our viticulture and winemaking to maintain and promote the diversity of flora and fauna around us. We want to contribute to the richness of our natural environment. At the moment we subscribe to an EU code of conduct set out by the IPP (Integrated Product Policy). http://ec.europa.eu/environment/ipp/ http://europa.eu/legislation_summaries/consumers/consumer_safety/l28011_en.htm Our Falcon One of the most exciting events of walking through our vineyards is seeing a rare small falcon we call the Peneireiro (Falco Naumanni) hovering over them and suddenly swooping to catch its prey. To us it’s an indicator that there is a healthy balance in the nature which surrounds us. This is why we use the falcon as our logo. Together we a local preservation organization we work to encourage this species to inhabit our area. Our Team We value our local community. Diogo was born and brought up here, so too our work force is drawn from the locality. Our ethos ensures they are all integral members of the team and understand our philosophy which simply says we need everyone to contribute positively to its development and the jovial atmosphere. Quinta da Raza I Alvarinho/Trajadura PRODUCT : White Wine/ Vinho Regional Minho GRAPE VARIETY: Alvarinho & Trajadura TASTING NOTES “Quinta da Raza” is a high quality wine, elegant, fresh with a fruity fragrance and a pleasant and long lasting aftertaste. It results from a blend of our best grapes, which reveal a wellbalanced wine. RECOMMENDATIONS This wine is ideal as an aperitif, with shellfish, fish, or light meals and salads. It is particularly pleasant with Asian meals. This wine is best drunk at a temperature of 8- 10ºC. Dom Diogo Alvarinho PRODUCT : White Wine / Vinho Regional Minho GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Alvarinho TASTING NOTES Alvarinho is a citron-coloured single variety wine which fills the mouth with texture, ripeness and a fruity and floral nose, culminating in a harmonious and persistent flavour. RECOMMENDATIONS This wine is delicious served with shellfish, fish, and light meals . This wine is best drunk at a temperature of 8- 10ºC. Dom Diogo Azal PRODUCT : Vinho Verde./ DOC GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Azal TASTING NOTES A distinctive wine with a light citron-colour. Very fresh, with a fruity fragrance and well balanced acidity which results in a soft persistent taste on the palate. RECOMMENDATIONS This wine is delicious served with shellfish, fish or light meals and salads. This wine should be drunk at a temperature of 8- 10ºC. Dom Diogo Arinto PRODUCT : Vinho Verde./ DOC GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Arinto TASTING NOTES Arinto is an attractively fruity citron-coloured wine. Appealingly crisp, with a complex fragrance which continues with a rich and intense taste. RECOMMENDATIONS This wine is delicious served with seafood, fish, poultry and light meals. It is particularly pleasant with pasta and risotto dishes. This wine should be drunk at a temperature of 8- 10ºC. PRODUCT : Vinho Verde./ DOC GRAPE VARIETY: Arinto , Azal, Trajadura and Alvarinho TASTING NOTES “Raza” is a crispy and fresh clear citron coloured wine, that has a balanced acidity and a fruity fragrance with a grapefruit character. RECOMMENDATIONS This wine is delicious served with shellfish, fish or light meals and salads. This wine is best drunk at a temperature of 8- 10ºC. Dom Diogo Vinhão PRODUCT : Vinho Verde./ DOC GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Vinhão TASTING NOTES It is a very dark colour wine, with a sylvan fruits fragrance. It is soft and dry and has a high viscosity. RECOMMENDATIONS This wine is delicious served with traditional regional meals like “papas de sarrabulho”, “rojões”, “arroz de cabidela”, lamprey, sardines and codfish meals. This wine is best drunk at a temperature of 11- 13ºC. Dom Diogo Padeiro PRODUCT : Vinho Verde./ DOC GRAPE VARIETY: 100% Padeiro TASTING NOTES It is a pleasant ruby viscous wine with a strong sylvan fruits fragrance, soft and dry RECOMMENDATIONS This wine is ideal as an aperitif and with light meals, such as fish and seafood. Due to its freshness, it is particularly pleasant in a relaxed and informal ambience. This wine is best drunk at a temperature of 8- 10ºC.
