June-July2015 - Sunshine Foundation
June-July 2015
Operation Dreamlift 2015!
Thank you, Miami Air International, for the
airplane that flew over 80 children to the
Magic Kingdom for the day on the
All-Volunteer Mercer County Chapter’s
Dreamlift! The children had a
wonderful time actually being in an
airplane and flying to their dream
destination of Disney World!
“Thanks to every person who donated
to Mercer Dreamlift,” says Cathy
DiCostanzo, the intrepid coordinator
of the monumental tasks of organizing
the event. “It does not matter what
amount you gave because it all adds up
and we are very grateful. We continue to witness
the utmost generosity from the residents of
Mercer County to our special children!”
Just what goes into getting a Dreamlift off the ground? Lots and lots of hard, diligent work!
MARINE CORPS

Texas Roadhouse Fundraiser
Sergeant Ralph Fiasco, of the Hamilton
PD, coordinated the event with his kids,
Mercer
Chapter
President
Cathy
DiCostanzo,
and Sunshine Foundation
Volunteer Lynn Tisza.
The Texas Roadhouse
restaurant on on Route 33,
in Hamilton, NJ, will be
doing ongoing fundraisers
one Sunday a month with
a percent of sales going to
the All Volunteer Mercer County Chapter. A
big “thank you” to Norman, manager of the
restaurant.
The Trenton Knights of Columbus
#355 held a bingo fundraiser at Our
Lady of the Angels Church in
Trenton for the Mercer County
Sunshine Foundation.
The KOC
raised $1400 for four seats on
Operation Dreamlift.
Pictured is Cathy
DiCostanzo,
President of Mercer County Chapter,
accepting a check from
Grand Knight Ken Rhodes
and event chair Frank Bruno
and other members of the
KOC fundraising team.
Most of us would agree, that
there is nothing more satisfying
than to help children to achieve
their dreams. Recently, the
Marines of the Trenton
Marine Corps League did
just that by giving a helping hand to the Sunshine Foundation
and to children with special needs to realize their dreams of
going to the Central Florida’s Disney World through the
Dreamlift Program. On April 15th, Marine Corps League
Commandant Robert Fitch presented Cathy
DiCostanzo, President of the Mercer County Chapter of
the Sunshine Foundation, with a check for $700 to
purchase two seats on the 2015 Dreamlift. Ken Endrle, a
detachment volunteer & Sgt.-At-Arms, stated
afterward that “the League has supported the
Foundation for as long as I can remember.”

Sunshine Foundation’s Dream Village Celebrates
25 Years of Serving Special Children
For 25 years Sunshine Foundation’s Dream Village
has provided a home away from home for the
Sunshine Foundation Dreamers who dream of going
to the Central Florida Theme Parks. Nine fairy tale
themed cottages have provided a magical place for
these children to stay while they get to experience heir
Dream Come True. This April the Sunshine
Foundation Dream Village held their 25th
Anniversary Celebration to thank all the sponsors,
volunteers and donors who have been a part of
making the Dream Village such a beautiful and
peaceful retreat for the Sunshine Foundation
Dreamers and their families.
Sporting Sunshine
Sandberg’s Squad
Philadelphia Phillies Manager Ryne
Sandberg invited 25 guests fr om

Village Views
As a recent visitor to Sunshine Foundation’s Dream
Village, eight-year-old Alexis says that she felt like
royalty! When asked about her favorite part of her
trip, she exclaimed, “All of it!” She stayed in the LEGO
Cottage (featured below) which served to remind the
entire family that they were there to have fun!
“Alexis feels so blessed and thankful and has decided
that she wants to start actively raising money in order
to help other kids have their wishes granted. The
stress of having a chronically ill child definitely
takes its toll on the entire family at times and this
was a great way for us to unwind and appreciate
one another (and our health). Being able to give her this
trip and watching her thrive was a beautiful thing to
watch. We are forever grateful for the time we spent at
the Dream Village and will never forget all of the
memories we made there!”
- Alexis’ mother, Tara
Editor’s note: Commencing with this issue, The Sunshine Foundation Reporter will begin featuring specialized content such as the ones
featured on this, the Village Views page, which will feature articles about different cottages in each issue. Other articles will feature our
All Volunteer Chapters, and other items of interest! Let us know how you like the changes! Happy Reading!
