Happy Birthday and Goodbye to Our Dear Friend Bonnie Adams
It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to Bonnie Adams, who would have celebrated her 75th
birthday on November 03, 2012, but passed away on August 26, 2012. Bonnie, who became president of the All Volunteer We Care Chapter after her husband Ed Adams, who for many years served
as chapter president, passed away on February 25, 2009. Bonnie, her daughter Julie and son-in-law
Gordy and granddaughter Elsie vowed to continue the work that Ed had dedicated so many years to
doing. They would continue making the dreams of Sunshine Foundation’s chronically ill, seriously
ill, physically challenged and abused children come true, as a way of remembering Ed.
Each year, two times a year, Bonnie, Julie, Gordy, Bonnie’s grandchildren Elsie and Brandon and
Julie’s future daughter-in-law Lauren spent three days parking campers and cars in the Lowe’s parking lot near the
Dover International Speedway, where the Nascar Races took place. In these three
exhausting days, they sometimes generated over $4,000.00, and made good friends
of these kind people who returned each year to park with them and help the Sunshine
Foundation. This year’s race (pictured at left) took place on September 28th through
September 30th and it was a heart breaking day for not only Julie and her family but
also for the people who parked there and had come to know and love Bonnie through
the years. Julie, like her mother, now vows to continue as the We Care Chapter
president, carrying on her parent’s legacy of helping those less fortunate.
Bonnie’s bright smile and quick wit endeared her to all she met. We consider ourselves very fortunate to have known this warm, generous, caring woman and will miss her terribly. Our deepest sympathy goes out to Julie, Gordy and all her grandchildren. You will all be in our thoughts and prayers.

Mikey Meets the Steelers
Mikey is 6 years old, is autoimmune diffident, and has severe trachea bronchial malacia,
asthma, and severe allergies, which requires him to use a nebulizer. He receives IVIG
infusions every four weeks, weekly injections of methotraxate, and must take numerous daily
medications to manage his diagnosis. He was hospitalized twice during last school year, but
his family says his personality does not let his illness keep him down. His favorite activity is
football. The Steelers are his favorite team because “they have a lot of wins and Superbowl
championships!” Mikey’s dream was to meet the Steelers, a dream that was recently made
real. Sunshine Foundation sent Mikey to Pittsburgh to meet his heroes! He was able to meet
multiple players. Mikey was lucky enough to attend a practice where he met the team and also
attended a game the next night. He says, “It was awesome. I had a hard time getting the
smile off my face!” Thank you to the Pittsburgh Steelers for making this dream come true and
providing tickets for Mikey and his parents. He most
definitely will never forget this dream come true!

Farewell to One of Our Special Donors...
Peter L. Carnesale, Jr. was Director and Owner of Carnesale Funeral Home in Hammonton, NJ for over
50 years. He was a fun loving, kind and generous man with a big heart according to Maria Falcone, of the
Hammonton Wishing Well Chapter, who worked for him for several years. Maria told us that he was always willing to
help with a donation, whenever she came calling for one of the Chapter's fundraisers. Maria shared stories of the
chronically ill, seriously ill, physically challenged and abused children who were helped by the Sunshine Foundation
with Peter, which obviously touched his heart, for he requested that upon his passing, family and friends were to make
donations to the Hammonton Wishing Well Chapter, to help, as he called them, "Maria's Kids".
This wonderful man will be missed by his family and friends and all who knew and loved him. We offer our most
sincere gratitude to all those who made donations in Peter's memory. Thanks to you and Peter, one of the Sunshine
Foundation's children will receive their dream come true, a dream that will remain forever in his or her heart.
A wonderful legacy, by a very special man.
All Volunteer New Castle County Chapter’s Sunshine Scramble
The All Volunteer New Castle County Chapter hosted their 17th Annual Sunshine Scramble. The golf outing
answers dreams for Sunshine Foundation children every year. This event has sponsored dreams for 20 deserving
children since its inception 17 years ago. Over the
past 17 years more than $84,000 has been raised to
answer dreams! This year the event answered dreams
for Keanu and Alexis. The two dreamers were
special guests and received the exciting news their
dreams were coming true at the Sunshine Scramble.

Rock ‘n Roll for Fifty Years by Carolyn & John Heary
“As teens, we met at a school dance, like many other couples did in the 50s. To this day, 52 years later, we still love
to jitterbug, so we attend Doo Wop concerts and dance at clubs that include that classic Rock ‘n Roll music. On August
18th, we celebrated our 50th year of married life. Our family of 15, which includes our children and seven grandchildren, will celebrate by attending a Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs baseball game on Labor Day with friends. Our son,
Brendan, will attend in spirit, for 20 years ago; he was killed in an automobile accident.
Before we had our first grandchild, Brendan was in a position to help from above. It was at Brendan’s funeral we
asked mourners to donate to the Sunshine Foundation in his memory. We were already aware of the joy the Sunshine
Foundation brought to children faced with a grim outlook in life. This helped to make Brendan’s new life in heaven
have ongoing meaning, especially for the young.
We requested guests of our 50th anniversary baseball party to again send a donation, just
as has been done by our family over the years since Brendan’s accident. It lifts our spirits
and gives our life together even more meaning, knowing more smiles will be found at the
Sunshine Foundation, so when we put on our Rock ‘n Roll shoes at an October 50’s weekend
dance and concert, we can Twist and Shout, Stroll and Bunny Hop knowing Brendan
continues to make his mark.”
