Donation for Spes Bona from Miss SA Schools- finalist
Rustenburg – Alicia Roetz is but 12
years-old and already making her
mark in the modelling world and is a
finalist in the Miss SA Schools pageant taking place in Pretoria on Saturday, 18 October.
As part of her duties as a finalist in
this prestigious competition, Alicia is
supporting Spes Bona as charity of
her choice. This non-governmental
organisation based in Rustenburg is
a home caring for 64 persons with
disabilities and on Wednesday (8
Oct) Alicia donated a huge quantity of
food, toiletries and other groceries to
them.
Alicia admits she could not have done
so without the assistance of the ProActive Learning Academy, Rotanang
Primary School, Renting with A&L,
Smurfie Land Preschool, Safari Spar,
GIA House of Models, family members
and other individuals who contributed
towards this worthy cause. Alicia is a
student of the GIA House of Models in
Rustenburg and Antoinette Pretorius,
principal of the Pro-Active Learning
Academy, said she is very proud of
this learner who does extremely well
in all she sets her mind to.
Social cricket takes off
Rustenburg – Cricket fanatics in the area gathered at Laerskool Rustenburg last weekend (4-5 Oct) to watch local cricket players battle it out on the field.
Boo-Yah faced off against Larries and won by default, while the Buddies played against
the Snakes, who won by 7 wickets, ending the match with Buddies at 115/10 and the
Snakes at 116/3. Kwezi chalked up 149/9 to win with 37 runs against Ka-Boom, who
scored 112/9.
The Dopers and Barbie Team will face off on Saturday, 11 October, in a must-win game
to determine who goes through to the semi-finals of the Leon’s Auto and Larries Social
Outdoor Cricket (LALSOC) tournament.
The Teletubbies will play against the Smarties on at 10:00 on Sunday, 12 October and the
Tailenders will challenge the Specials at 13:00 on the same day.
All matches are played at Laerskool Rustenburg and young and old are invited to join in

SAMBA developing Telkom Knock-out Cup
future soccer squads quarter-finals beckoning Stars
Rustenburg – After another successful weekend of soccer camps for
junior players, Patrick Tshetlo, development manager of the SAMBA
soccer initiative, is happy that they are progressing well towards building a development squad in the u/8, u/10 and u/12 age groups.
Parents of budding young soccer stars are encouraged to register their
children for the programme through which they aim to change thousands of children’s lives in and around Rustenburg.
Soccer camps take place on Saturdays from 09:00 to 11:00 at the Impala rugby club and from 14:00 to 16:00 at the RBI rugby grounds.

Rustenburg/ Phokeng – Defending champions Platinum Stars are
one step closer to claiming the title again after beating Chippa United
1-0 at the Royal Bafokeng Stadium in Phokeng on Tuesday, 7 October.
Dikwena lost an opportunity to score early on when Eleazar Rodgers
shot over and ten minutes later Chippa looked certain to score when
Mpho Mvelase faced Kabelo Dambe in a one-on-one, but the keeper
easily blocked the ball.
With only five minutes remaining, Chippa’s Nigerian defender James
Okwuosa kicked the ball past his own keeper, ensuring an on-goal in
favour of Dikwena – the only goal of the game – and clearing the way
for them to the quarter-finals.

Rustenburg – Summer is here and caught
many people unawares. It is easy to find
an excuse to postpone the diet or exercise
programme while the weather is chilly, just
to have the rude awakening of realising the
summer wardrobe has somehow shrunk during the winter months.
To counter these winter worries, the Platinum
Dream Team has partnered with MohauMokipidi Consulting in organising a healthy
lifestyle fun run/walk on 11 October, aiming to
promote fitness and overall health through a
large variety of activities the whole family can
participate in.
The event starts at 07:00 for 07:30 and the
entry fees are R30 for the 5km walk/run and
R50 for the 10km walk/run. Registration forms
can be obtained from ABSA branches, local
schools and Olympia Park stadium.

Rusteloos in
Rustenburg to
rock the city!
Rustenburg – In the aftermath of the fivemonth long strike in the area and with many
families still in dire straits, the local golf club
will for the first time be hosting a musical
event in aid of and conjunction with the
Help-Net Foundation.
Singers Juanita du Plessis, Willem Botha,
Charlize Berg, Jakkie Louw and Monique
have lined up stunning musical acts for Saturday, 18 October from 14:00 to 21:00 at
the Rustenburg Golf Club. Ticket prices are
R120 for adults, R80 for high school and
R60 for primary school pupils.
The Help-Net Foundation is a non-profit
organisation focusing on the care and
rehabilitation of abused, neglected and
abandoned children which supports places
of safety countrywide, and director Jaco
Meintjies said caring for the community is
at the heart of the event and the artists are
as excited as they are to give back through
such a dynamic platform.
Louis Swart, vice-president of the club,
said, “This is a day for the entire family to
enjoy a celebration for the local community
and an opportunity to give back. Preparations for the show are in full swing and it
promises to be a major success”.
