MISC. IMPORTS
2012 Bodegas Atalaya “Laya”
Almansa DO, Spain $6.99
“The 2012 Laya, a blend of 70% Garnacha and
30% Monastrell, has a superb bouquet of pure
dark cherries, blackberry and incense that
would normally grace a wine far more
expensive. The palate is medium-bodied with
layers of succulent black fruit that is neatly entwined with the subtle
French oak. Supremely well-crafted for an unbeatable price.
Excellent.” 90 Points Wine Advocate
2011 Casarena Malbec Reserva
Mendoza, Argentina $16.99
“Good bright ruby. Captivating aromas and
flavors of blackberry, blueberry, licorice, herbs
and mocha oak, plus a hint of fig. Densely
packed, fresh and intense, offering very good
extract and life in the mouth. Finishes even and
long, with supple, building tannins, sweet fruit and a note of coffee
oak. Classy and satisfying for the price.” 91 Points Stephen Tanzer
2011 Tait Wines The Ball Buster
Barossa Valley, Australia $16.99
2010 Montebuena Rioja
Tempranillo, Spain $8.99
“Vivid ruby. Ripe cherry and blackcurrant on
the nose and in the mouth. Pliant and seamless
in texture, with good heft and back-end energy.
Finishes smooth and sweet, with fine-grained tannins providing
shape and grip. Still on the young side but this wine drinks very
well with an hour or so of decanting; it’s an excellent value for
Rioja.” 90 Points Stephen Tanzer’s International Wine Cellar
“Blended of 75% Shiraz, 22% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Merlot,
the 2011 The BallBuster is deep garnet-purple in color with fragrant
black currant, crushed black berry and violet aromas plus hints of
black pepper, mulberries and spice box. Full-bodied with a good
amount of toast and vanilla flavors coming through to compliment
the black fruits on the palate, it has a medium level of rounded
tannins and lively acid, finishing long. Drink it now through
2016+.” 90 Points Wine Advocate
“The excellent 2010 La Atalaya is a blend of
85% Garnacha and 15% Monastrell, grown on
chalky and sandy-loam soils and matured in
French oak for 12 months. Nose opens gradually to offer blackberry,
cigar box and a touch of wild mint. The palate is medium-bodied
with plenty of crisp blackberry and bilberry fruit, complemented by
fresh plums and a splash of balsamic. This is very harmonious, the
Monastrell lending the Garnacha structure and tautness on the finish.
This is well-crafted and should age well.” 91 Points Wine Advocate
“Medium to deep garnet colored with a hint of
purple, the 2011 Baby Bush Mourvedre is
scented of ripe blackberries and plums with underlying suggestions
of loam, tar, black pepper and chargrilled meat. Medium-bodied, it
gives a good amount of muscular fruit framed by crisp acid and a
medium level of chewy, slightly astringent tannins, finishing long
with a faint herbal lift. Drinking well now, it should keep to 2016.”

2010 Bodegas Atalaya “La Atalaya”
Almansa DO, Spain$13.99
2011 Hewitson Mourvedre
“Baby Bush”, Barossa Valley,
Australia $18.99
Locations by Dave Phinney “E2” Garnacha/
Tempranillo/ Carignane, Spain (2012) $16.99
2011 Susana Balbo Cabernet
Sauvignon Mendoza,
Argentina $19.99
“A blend of Grenache/Garnacha, Tempranillo, and Carignan/
Cariñena. The wine has a vibrant ruby color with a scarlet band on
the rim. The aromas take a minute to awaken, and then take off into
a blend of ripe boysenberry, stone fruit, warm spice, and a hint of
oak. A rich entry leads to a robust and savory mid-palate that is
intense and concentrated with a persistent finish of ripe, soft tannins.
Extremely well-balanced with proper weight and structure, the wine
is ready to drink now.” Winemaker Notes
“Cassis, licorice and menthol aromas are lifted
by minerals and violet. Seamless but youthfully tight on entry, then opens up spectacularly
on the back half, showing superb noble
tannins, excellent peppery lift and outstanding
persistence. Susana Balbo attributes both the
wine’s fine-grained tannins and its peppery element to fully ripe
grapes in 2011…” 92 Points Stephen Tanzer
2008 Bodegas Dinastia Vivanco
Rioja Crianza, Spain $16.99
“The 2008 Dinastia Vivanco Crianza is made
from 100% Tempranillo and aged for 16
months in French and American oak. Balsam
wood, tobacco, cinnamon, clove, violets,
and black fruit aromas lead to a ripe, sweetly-fruited, nicely
proportioned Crianza that is likely to blossom for another 1-2 years
and drink well through 2020.” 90 Points Wine Advocate

1994 Cune Rioja Imperial
Gran Reserva, Spain $69.99
4
“Bright ruby-red. Currant, spice cake, mocha, leather and smoke on
the nose. Supple but sappy and vinous, with complex, laid-back
flavors of cedar, leather and game. The wine’s firm acids and
underlying minerality restrain its sweetness. But very suave,
firmly tannic and long on the aftertaste.” 92+ Points Stephen
Tanzer (2001)
FRANCE
2012 Patient Cottat Sauvignon
Blanc “Le Grand Caillou”
Loire Valley $9.99
2011 Domaine La Barroche
Chateauneuf du Pape
“Signature” $58.99
“A gorgeous base cuvee, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape Signature
checks in as a blend of 65% Grenache and the rest Syrah,
Mourvedre and Cinsault that’s aged all in tank and larger foudre.
Dishing out loads of black cherry, toasted spice, red licorice and
underbrush, this medium to full-bodied beauty is seamless, silky
and refined on the palate, with ultra-fine tannin. Already superb, it
should nevertheless evolve gracefully on its balance and harmony.
Drink now-2021.” 92 Points Wine Advocate
Grapes for the 2012 Sauvignon Blanc were
sourced from prestigious vineyards located in
Anjou and Touraine. Intense aromas of lemon
zest, pink grapefruit, and passion fruit fill the
glass. On the palate, the wine is dry and fresh with crisp citrus
flavors and a racy acidity. Finishes clean with a pleasant lingering
minerality. Drink tonight.
2010 Perrin & Fils
Vinsobres Les Cornuds,
Southern Rhone Valley $17.99
2010 Domaine Michel Lafarge
Volnay, Burgundy $69.99
“A blend of Syrah and Grenache that possesses
a dense purple color. Aromas of layered
crushed black cherry, steeped blackberry, and
anise. Juicy, focused and nicely concentrated, offering hefty cassis
and bitter cherry flavors brightened by a cracked pepper quality on
the palate. A smoky note emerges on the long, spice-dominated
finish.” 91 Points Wine Spectator
“A more deeply pitched nose features a mix of
red and blue pinot fruit with hints of plum,
earth and stone. There is fine richness to the
round and solidly concentrated medium-bodied flavors where the
supporting structure is phenolically mature, all wrapped in a mouth
coating, persistent and well-balanced finish of very good if not
exceptional depth. This delicious effort should benefit from 6 to 8
years of cellar time.”- Burghound
“A distinctly earthy red and dark berry fruit
suffused nose blends into detailed and
energetic middle weight flavors that evidence
pretty mineral notes on the balanced and
delicious finish. The supporting structure is ripe, which isn’t always
the case in the Hautes Côtes and overall, this is serious and delivers
very solid quality. Worth considering.”- Burghound
“(a blend of 72% merlot and 28% cabernet
franc) Bright, deep ruby-red. Aromas of blackberry and licorice. Sweet and supple but lively,
with good pepper and violet lift to the black fruit and chocolatey oak
flavors. A very fresh wine with lovely persistence but a slightly peppery aspect on the back. The palate-coating tannins reach the teeth.
This should evolve slowly for a 2007 Pomerol.”- Stephen Tanzer
2010 Domaine AF Gros Hautes Cotes
de Nuits, Burgundy $34.99
2007 Chateau Vieux Chateau Certan
Pomerol $89.99, Was $129.99
2011 Domaine Jacques-Frederic
Mugnier Nuits Saint Georges Premier
Cru Clos de la Marechale $99.99
2010 Perrin & Fils Chateauneuf-duPape “Les Sinards” $38.99
“A lovely deep purple core with ruby
highlights. The 2010 Les Sinards is lush and
inviting on the nose, with smoldering black tea
weaving through fleshy layers of melted fig, plum preserves, and
blackberry pudding. Flavors of dark ganache, black cherry, licorice,
and tobacco leaf dominate the palate. It finishes with serious grip
and length.” 93 Points Wine Spectator
90-92 Points Burghound: “A pure and
appealingly fresh nose of relatively elegant red berry fruit is
liberally laced with earth and spice hints. There is a lilting mouth
feel to the energetic, intense and equally pure medium-bodied
flavors that possess plenty of that beguiling sense of underlying
tension that makes wines like this so refreshing. There isn’t the class
of the Fuées but this is really very good plus I very much like the
balance and harmony of the firm and lingering finish.”
2011 Clos Saint Jean Chateauneuf
du Pape Vieilles Vignes $44.99
“More rich and layered, with fantastic notes of
blackberry liqueur, strawberry, garrigue and
lavender, the 2011 Chateauneuf du Pape
Vieilles Vignes (85% tank-aged Grenache and the balance Syrah
and Mourvedre, fermented with some stem inclusion) is full-bodied,
beautifully concentrated and has pure, polished tannin framing the
finish nicely. It’s a gorgeous, even elegant, 2011 that will drink well
for 12-15 years. Drink now-2027.” 94 Points Wine Advocate
2010 Duhart Milon (Lafite Rothschild)
Pauillac $129.99, Was $149.99
5
96 Points Robert Parker: “Dense purple, with classic notes of
cedar and lead pencil shavings as well as gobs of black currants and
licorice, the wine has a full-bodied mouthfeel with fabulous
precision and density. It also possesses a long, silky finish with
moderately high tannins, but they are ripe and well-integrated. The
wood is clearly pushed to the background in this dense, full-bodied
Pauillac, which should drink beautifully for 30+ years.”

DOMESTIC WINES
2012 Morro Bay Split Oak Estates
Chardonnay Sur Lie
Central Coast $9.99
blackberry, juicy red and black currant and sweet crème de cassis
fleshes out steadily on the palate, interwoven with black currant
leaf, mocha and a savory hint of black pepper. There’s a refreshing
brightness to the fruit from the beginning all the way through to the
lingering, velvety finish.”
Morro Bay Chardonnay is sourced from
several vineyards within the Lange Family
estate. The Lange Family has been farming in
the Lodi appellations for four generations dating back to the late
1800’s. Tasting Notes from Winemaker: “Vanilla cream soda nose
with a slice of fresh cut pineapple. Full body, tropical fruit, spice
and pleasing vanilla oak note linger in the finish. Sweet flavor on
the palate is from sur-lie aging the wine on the primary yeast lees
for 6 months. A versatile style of wine that can be served chilled
with fine cuisine or a glass with friends.”
2012 Piedrasassi Syrah “PS”
Central Coast $19.99
The best selling Syrah last year is back!
And it’s got the coolest looking bottle as well.
Piedrasassi is devoted to the Syrah grape.
They produce three distinct Syrahs, each one
intended to best express the terroir of its
vineyard sources. The value-driven Syrah is “p.s.”, which is sourced
from younger vines, grown in sandier soils in lower elevations
along the Central Coast of California. It is our interpretation of the
spicy, exuberant side of Syrah found throughout the cooler climates
of California. Aged for 11 months in neutral barrels and bottled
with extremely low levels of sulfur, we aim with this wine to
produce what we consider a “natural” wine - that is a wine that has
had the least amount of intervention possible in its production.
A beautiful wine!
2012 Carmel Road Pinot Noir
Monterey $14.99
Carmel Road Winery is located in the heart of
Monterey County where the air is crisp and the
tempo is relaxed and measured. the 2012 Pinot Noir is a medium
reddish-purple color with extremely appealing aromas of black
cherries, black raspberries, spice and fresh rose petal holding in the
glass. Tasty core of dark red cherry and berry flavors with the
slightest toasty oak in the background. Has a sense of plushness on
the palate and admirable balance. Unbelievable quality for the price.
2012 Lompoc Wine Co. Pinot Noir
Sta Rita Hills $28.99
2010 The Giant Wine Co.
“the ghost of 413” Red Wine
Columbia Valley $15.99
Just arrived, brand new wine from the brain trust of Raj Parr and
Sashi Moorman, proprietors of Domaine de la Cote. In their opinion
the southern corridor of the Sta. Rita Hills (the vineyards along
Santa Rosa Road) will soon become recognized as one of
California’s most important viticultural appellations for high quality
Pinot and Chardonnay. Two vineyards are the base of this great
Pinot Noir, Sanford & Benedict Vineyard and Rita’s Crown. Kudos
to our friends for making an excellent Pinot Noir from the excellent
2012 vintage.
From Gorman and McNielly: “It’s got plenty
of stuffing to scare wines at twice the price.”
Mostly Syrah (98%) with a touch of Cabernet
Sauvignon (2%), the Ghost of 413 is massive.
Dark berries and earth with a hint of spice
come through on the nose, followed by a teeth-staining palate of
rich, chewy berries and a spicy finish. Dark and brooding, this wine
begs to be left alone for a while once opened, so be sure to give it
a chance to wake up before you dive in.
2011 Champ De Reves Pinot Noir
Anderson Valley $34.99
This 1100-acre property, situated just north of
Boonville, was planted in 2006 and now has 85
bearing acres. 91 Points Stephen Tanzer:
“The 2011 Pinot Noir is bright ruby-red. A smoky, highly perfumed
bouquet evokes black raspberry, cherry-cola, dried rose and anise,
with a spicy topnote. Weighty dark berry flavors become livelier
with air and pick up an element of minerality. Finishes tangy and
quite long, with lingering smoke and vanilla flavors and gentle
tannins. This wine is all about delineation, nuance and freshness,
all qualities that are very much present in the glass.”
2012 Lioco Chardonnay
Sonoma County $17.99
A pure expression of place and vintage. The
2012 Chardonnay is a lovely pale lemon with
golden highlights. On the nose are telltale notes
of orange blossom, citrus peel, and crushed rock that are delivered
with precision and grace. Kaffir lime, Gravenstein apple, and a sheer
minerality flesh out the flavor on the palate. It finishes long, and is
balanced by a kiss of neutral oak to round out the vibrant acidity.
2011 Robert Mondavi Cabernet
Sauvignon Napa Valley $19.99
Still one of the best selling Cabernet’s under
$20 in the store! Winemaker Tasting Notes:
“A classic example of intensity tempered by
elegance and finesse. A lush, fruity core of ripe

95 Points Wine Advocate: “Every bit as good,
with a touch more gaminess and meatiness
DOMESTIC WINES DOM. SPARKLING
NV Piper Sonoma Cellars Brut
Sonoma County $12.99
(which is common for the vineyard), the 2009 Syrah Melville
dishes out superb blackberry, pepper, bacon fat and smoke as well
as supple, voluptuous feel on the palate. Medium to full-bodied,
with gorgeous purity of fruit and a solid mid-palate, it will have
over a decade of longevity.”
Piper Sonoma brings a bit of sparkle to every
occasion. It’s a blend of 60% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir, 25%
Pinot Meunier. Winemaker tasting notes: “Pale gold color with tiny
bubbles. Delicate aromas of ripe apple, toast and peach. Crisp citrus
flavors with hint of strawberries and vanilla smoke. Dry, fresh,
bright with a long, elegant finish.”
2011 Wild Ridge Pinot Noir
Sonoma Coast $39.99
Grown on estate vineyards located on the far
western edge of California’s Sonoma Coast.
This is Wild Ridge’s inaugural vintage and is
a true expression of coastal Pinot Noir. The multilayered nose is
full of deep cherry, cranberry, and plum aromas that are
complemented by hints of orange zest, anise, cedar and green tea.
Raspberry, pomegranate and blueberry dominate the entry on the
palate. A terroir driven earthiness along with integrated tannins add
weight and structure, while bright acidity contributes lift to the
lingering finish.
NV Gloria Ferrer
Blanc de Noirs Carneros $14.99
This is easily one of our top-selling bubbles for
the holidays! Winery Note: “This wine is a
showcase for what’s possible when you spend over 25 years
coddling and cultivating Carneros Pinot Noir for sparkling wine.
Gloria Ferrer Blanc de Noirs is not shy about its Pinot Pedigree.
You see it in the light blush coloring, taste it in the fresh berry
flavors and feel the lush textures. We left it on the skins a
little longer, so you can take a little longer to savor the full montage
of flavors.”
2010 Stonestreet Cabernet
Sauvignon “Monument Ridge”
Alexander Valley $39.99
NV Gruet Brut New Mexico $15.99
Once you try this great value, you might not
go back to California. This sparkling will
surprise you for its taste and quality! Tasting
Notes: “The Brut offers a crisp, and full-bodied sparkling wine,
which has developed rich complexity and fine mousse. The allure
of toasty finish from twenty-four months on tirage, is a complement
to the sophisticated apple and citrus flavor. Winemaker’s Note:
Brilliant with ultra fine bubbles. A wonderful fine bouquet
dominated by green apple and grapefruit flavors. A truly classic
house style!”
The Monument Ridge is one of our best selling
Cabernets from last holiday season! 93 Points Wine Enthusiast:
“Lovely, ripe and delicious, yet complex enough to hold your
interest. It’s just beginning its journey in the bottle. Very dark in
color, with hard tannins, it has an immense core of blackberries and
cherries. Will open up nicely for at least 6–8 years, but it could still
be rocking in 2022.”
2007 Col Solare Red
Columbia Valley $49.99
94 Points Robert Parker: “Starting the tasting
and a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20%
Merlot and 5% Cabernet Franc that comes
from a variety of vineyards (about 30% in Red Mountain and the
balance from the Columbia Valley) and was aged 22 months in
mostly new French oak, the 2007 Col Solare is a superb effort that
offers up notions of cassis, cedar, lead pencil, tar and dried herb as
well as a full-bodied, supple and polished texture. A classic
Washington State Bordeaux blend, it stays classy and balanced, and
shows the quality of the 2007 vintage.”
NV Roederer Estate Brut Estate
Anderson Valley $19.99
Still is the KING of the mountain, the number
#1 Sparkling wine from California at the Wine
House. Wine Spectator 91 Points: “Focused and vibrant, with
aromas of creamy apple, cinnamon and hazelnut leading to
complex, layered flavors of lemon custard, mineral and almond.
The finish lingers.”
2009 Schramsberg Vineyards
Blanc de Noirs $29.99
2010 Mt. Brave Cabernet Sauvignon
Mt. Veeder Napa Valley $69.99
Mt. Brave, the former Chateau Potelle, is a topnotch winery with winemaker Chris Carpenter
at the helm. 93 Points Wine Advocate:
“The 2010 Cabernet Sauvignon is surprisingly
accessible for a Mount Veeder Cabernet. Dark raspberries, flowers,
mint and new leather flesh out in this exciting large-scaled wine.
I especially like the density, richness and roundness here. In other
words, this is a beautifully balanced, harmonious wine.”
7
Still one of the Wine House favorite’s from
California! Winemaker Notes: “The 2009
Blanc de Noirs has concentrated aromas of red apple, apricot and
orange marmalade, which are complemented with tropical notes of
guava, mango & passion fruit. The fruitful nose is completed with
essences of candied ginger and Meyer lemon tart. Flavors of
orange, cherry and raspberry are present, followed by nuances of
peach-berry cobbler. The wine enters crisp and lingers on the palate,
finishing with a balanced and mouthwatering acidity.”

ITALY
2012 Di Majo Norante Sangiovese $8.99
2010 Luigi d’Alessandro Il Borgo $18.99
Made from 100% Sangiovese grown in the Ramitello and Martarosa
vineyards and hand-harvested in October, this wine is aged in
stainless steel and large oak barrels for six months to achieve greater
smoothness and softness while preserving the supple fruit-forward
characteristics of Sangiovese. Bright red in color, aromas of violets
and red berries complement undertones of leather and anise. On the
palate, this wine is dry and mellow with smooth tannins that make
for a crowd-pleasing, easy-to-drink red wine.” This Sangiovese
exhibits fresh aromas of woodland berries, violets, tea leaves and
sweet spice. Deliciously smooth, plush and juicy on the palate with
loads of ripe fruit, Di Majo Sangiovese is recommended with
brick-oven pizzas, chorizo and granular cheeses such ParmigianoReggiano or aged Gouda.
James Suckling 92 Points: “This is really peppery like a Northern
Rhone with tar and mineral character as well as lots of fruit. Full
and juicy with a fruity aftertaste and round, slightly chewy tannins.
The entry level Syrah from this estate with a new name.
2009 Luigi d’Alessandro Il Bosco $49.99
James Suckling 94 Points: “Complex aromas of dried meat,
pancetta and dark fruits follow through to a full body, with fine
tannins and lots of subtle fruit. Nutty and minerally at the finish. I
like the style and different character in this young wine. Better in
2014.” - JS
2009 Elio Grasso Barolo Gavarini
Vigna Chiniera $75.99
2012 Frescobaldi Remole $8.99
95 Points Wine Advocate: “The 2009 Barolo Gavarini Vigna
Chiniera is a beautifully delicate and elegant wine with fruit sourced
from 35-year-old vines at 400 meters above sea level. Those higher
elevations have helped to shape finely detailed aromas, despite the
warmer vintage. Bright notes of pressed rose, violets, licorice, spice,
tar and plum all call out your attention. Solid tightness in the mouth
slowly relaxes to reveal nuanced flavors of bright cherry, spice and
leather. Each time you return to the glass, the wine offers yet another
dimension.”
Rèmole is as blend of cabernet sauvignon and Sangiovese sourced
from areas of Tuscany long renowned for yielding wines of great
aromatic complexity, with full-fruited aromas. Rèmole has an
excellent body and sturdy structure. A rich, luminous ruby of
appealing depth announces an equally complex nose; Rèmole 2010
reveals multi-faceted aromas of red and dark fruit and lifted by
spicier impressions of black pepper and licorice. The entry is
velvety and warm, and the components on the palate are well
balanced, with a tasty vein of acidity. Aromatic fruit returns to grace
a lengthy finish.
2008 Poggio Antico Brunello di
Montalcino Altero $79.99
2009 Terre di San Leonardo $17.99
“The estate’s 2008 Brunello di Montalcino Altero is a bit more fruitforward and dense than the straight bottling. It, too, appears best
suited for drinking over the near and medium term. There is
excellent brightness and energy in the red fruit flavors, while floral
and spice overtones add an upper register that is undeniably
pleasing. Anticipated maturity: 2013-2020.”- Wine Advocate
The 2009 vintage was a difficult one for Tenuta San Leonardo’s
flagship wine so the estate decided to not produce a wine and
instead blended all of the best fruit down to the Terre di San
Leonardo, to produce one of the best wines to date. The 2009 Terre
di San Leonardo is a brilliant ruby red with fruit richness when
young, evolving to notes of ripe plum with an undertone of spice
and truffles. The palate is dry, soft and well-balanced with long
aromatics. Perfect for rice and pasta dishes with tomato, white
meats, grilled meats and soft cheeses.
2010 Antinori Tignanello $84.99
Antonio Galloni 96 Points: “Antinori’s 2010 Tignanello is
stunning, as it has been since I started tasting the component wines
in 2011. Firm yet sweet, silky tannins form the backbone for this
gorgeous, vivid wine. Dark red cherries, plums, cloves, mint and
sage inform a Tignanello that impresses for its delineation, nuance
and power. Clean, saline notes support the mineral-drenched finish.
The 2010 isn’t huge, but rather is a vertical wine endowed with
tremendous energy and vibrancy. I can’t remember a Tignanello
with this much crystalline tension and pure energy. Simply put, the
2010 Tignanello is a magnificent, towering wine from Antinori.”
Winery Spotlight:
Tenimenti Luigi d’Alessandro winery was born in 1967 when the
d’Alessandro family moved from Rome and purchased prime 100
hectares of the Manzano farm. Tenimenti d’Alessandro was the first
fine wine estate in the area of Manzano/Cortona, in southern
Tuscany. After experimenting for a number of years, it was
determined that Syrah was the ideal grape for this location:
thanks to the grape’s particular acclimation to the dry Cortona
environment, the results were excellent and deeply affected by the
local characteristics of the land. The family chose clones of Cote
Rotie Syrah and has planted 100 acres of Syrah at this point.
The region only received D.O.C. status with the 1999 vintage.
This certification established the mandatory presence of at least
85% of a single kind of vine. For many wine producers of the area,
the vine choice shall be the Syrah.

2008 Domenico Clerico Barolo Pajana $103.99
8
“The 2008 Barolo Pajana is surprisingly open and accessible in its
fruit for a young Clerico Barolo, although the Nebbiolo tannins are,
of course, quite prominent. The wine shows good plushness
and generosity in its dark red fruit, mocha, spices, new leather,
flowers and licorice, all of which flesh out on the supple finish…”

Founded in 1812, Laurent-Perrier has been avant-garde in creating unique and elegant champagnes for nearly two hundred years.
The house was acquired by the Nonancourt family in 1939 and for over 65 years Bernard de Nonancourt has dedicated his life to
innovating and perfecting Laurent-Perrier Champagne. As a result, Laurent-Perrier is one of the world’s most esteemed champagne
brands, and also the largest family-owned brand.
Now more than ever, the Nonancourt family values guide the Laurent-Perrier team, currently under the direction of Yves Dumont.
An independent spirit, which has always been the driving force behind the creative winemaking, has resulted in a unique and highly
successful range of champagnes. They are produced by a team led by Michel Fauconnet, chef de cave, and his predecessor Alain
Terrier, who is recognized as one of the greatest winemakers in Champagne. The wines are unique not only because of the philosophy
that has inspired them, but also for their style, flavor, and consistency in quality, as one cuvée succeeds another. In keeping with the
family’s belief that life is meant to be enjoyed, Laurent-Perrier supports l’art de vivre. Laurent-Perrier is an official champagne partner
of Relais et Châteaux and is served at the Academy Awards following the Oscars.
NV Laurent-Perrier Brut $34.99
2004 Laurent-Perrier Vintage Brut $49.99
This wine was our favorite from the line-up, with
regards to price and quality because it’s coming
from one of the best vintages in Champagne in
the last 20 years. By maintaining the signature
style of the House’s wines, pure and fresh in
essence, it aims to show the quintessential
character of each given year. A blend of
Chardonnay 50%, Pinot Noir 50%. “A bright,
mineral-driven Champagne that offers a creamy
mousse and flavors of green pear, anise, spiced
nut and candied lemon zest. A note of sweet
smoke lingers on the moderate finish. Drink now
through 2016. (91 Points Wine Spectator).
One more thing, we bought the entire allocation
for California, so for you locals, The Wine
House will be the only store you can
purchase this delicious gem!
Pale gold in color with a steady flow of fine and
persistent bubbles. The nose is delicate yet
complex, fresh and well balanced with hints of
citrus and white fruits. Well defined, subtly
rounded with expressive flavors. The fruit
progressively emerges to reveal a finely balanced
champagne displaying great length on the
finish. The combination of freshness and purity
of the Laurent-Perrier Brut has been a major
factor in the success of champagne as an aperitif.
Its citrus and white fruit notes – such as vine
peach – and its remarkable balance supported
by subtle bubbles make it the perfect
companion for the finer moments in life.
NV Laurent-Perrier Grand Siècle
La Cuvée Brut $109.99
NV Laurent-Perrier Brut Rose $69.99
In the 17th Century, during the reign of Louis
XIV, France enjoyed its most illustrious era.
Louis XIV became known as the “Sun King” for
his benevolence and his patronage of the Arts,
which became the foundation of France’s rich
artistic heritage. At the Palace of Versailles, he
was the first French King to drink Champagne.
Louis XIV’s era became known as the Grand
Siècle- the “Great Century”. Bottled in a replica
of a 17th Century bottle evoking the radiance of
that period, Laurent-Perrier’s prestige cuvées
embody luxury, magnificence and elegance fit
for a king. Grand Siècle is made with a Pinot
Noir and Chardonnay blend. Twelve of the
most prestigious villages supply these grapes;
all of them classified at 100% Grands Crus such
as Ambonnay, Verzenay, Mailly, Avize,
Cramant, Chouilly and Le Mesnil-sur-Oger.
21
The Cuvée Rosé Laurent-Perrier was created
in 1968 using bold, innovative ‘savoir-faire’
methods learned from production of still
wines called ‘Coteaux Champenois’.
Perfected at each stage of its making, the
Cuvée Rosé is now the benchmark in its
category. Elegant, with color changing
naturally from a pretty raspberry hint to
salmon-pink. Precise and very crisp. Wide
range of small red fruits: strawberries, red
currants, raspberries and black cherries. Its
amazing freshness is the dominating note.
Intensely fruity flavors, clean, well-defined
and slightly sharp, the wine then opens up
to provide an impression of plunging into a
basket of freshly picked red berries:
strawberries, Morello cherries, black
currants and raspberries. The wine is
supple and rounded on the finish.

SPIRITS
An International Flavor
re-heated and transformed back into vapor. The final distillation is
in a much smaller still that is made completely out of copper. When
alcohol vapors come in contact with copper, there’s an interchange
that happens which creates a distinct character in the final spirit.
Distilling Absolut Elyx in this way creates vodka with a different
character. Absolut Elyx is clean and sharp. Creamy, there’s little
sweetness at start, crisp grain notes becoming spicy at mid-palate,
finishing nice, spicy and clean. This hand crafted process makes
Absolut Elyx a different kind of vodka.
The wonderful thing about California, you’re never over or underdressed. We, sensibly, turn on red lights. And, season doesn’t always
dictate white pants, or what mixed drinks you are sipping. This
holiday season, we’re boasting an international flavor, here at The
Wine House. Starting now…
Leblon Cachaca As a spirit on the rise in most
of the world, cachaça has long been a prized
possession of Brazil. Unlike its counterparts in
the rum world, cachaça is produced by
fermenting sugar cane rather than molasses.
This fresher spirit has a distinct flavor and is
often produced in a cheap, unrefined manner.
Good cachaça is hard to find. Leblon Cachaça
is one of the good ones; in fact it’s one of the
best and represents its class of spirit perfectly.
Brazil’s National Cocktail, the Caipirinha (kai-pur-een-ya), is now
easier than ever to take home, with Leblon’s Caipirinha Mix, made
from fresh limes and pure cane sugar. Each bottle makes about eight
cocktails. Combine two parts Caipirinha Mix and one part Leblon
cachaça with ice. Stir or shake, and serve on the rocks with a lime
wedge garnish. For a “party punch,” pour two bottles of mix and
one bottle of Leblon cachaça in a punch bowl. Add ice. Leblon
cachaça is winner of the Double Gold Medal at the San Francisco
World Spirits Competition and seven consecutive medals with the
title “Best Cachaça” in the same competition from 2006 to 2012.
El Dorado 21 – 750ml $99.99
El Dorado is made from rums of between 21
and 25 years of age, matured in 45 gallon oak
casks, in Guyana. Awarded gold at International
Rum Festival 2003 in Canada and a Silver at
the 2003 International Wine and Spirit Competition in London, this was the highest scoring
rum ever to be tasted by the Beverage Tasting Institute in Chicago.
Demerara County (in Guyana) is popular across the world for its
rich, three hundred year history of rum production. Using a
combination of old wooden stills in conjunction with modern stills
and distilling techniques, Demerara Distillers Ltd. (DDL), has built
a reputation for outstanding quality and consistent production. El
Dorado 21-Year-Old Rum uses a blend of rums selected from their
famous stills, all of which have been aged in oak for a minimum of
21 years, making this one of the oldest production rums in the
world. Thick on your glass, El Dorado 21 is blended selections of
different ‘vintages’ or aged in oak barrels. The age statement
indicates the youngest rum in the blend, even though the oldest may
be many years older. This rule is same as Scotch, and used for rums
produced in English-speaking countries. In the glass it’s a rich
brown liquid, bronze and viscous, thick legs crawling down the
sides back into the rum. Full of baking spices, orange peel, vanilla,
and dry fruits. There’s nothing astringent associated with the aroma.
Opening up you get almonds and hazelnuts, colored by oak and
spice, giving way to brown sugars and toffee, apricot or dried fruit.
Tasting this beauty is only a whole lot better. Oak spice, toffee, rich
brown sugar. Dried fruit, nutty, a touch of smoke, vanilla and brown
sugar, the cinnamon spice as if on a piece of toast buttered and
spread. Wonderfully complex and balanced.

A Wine House Special - Leblon Brazil In A Box, (1 Leblon, 1

Henry McKenna 10 Year Old –
750ml $26.99
Henry McKenna, a 10 year old bourbon for
$27 that drinks-a-whole-hell-of-a-lot-better
then you’d expect. The nose is candied nuts
and spice, wood mixed with deep, dark fruit.
At 100 proof, it balances nicely on the palate.
Dark chocolate bitterness, with hints of spice
and herbs, and a lengthy finish. A good bang for your buck bourbon
on all counts.
Absolut Elyx Vodka – 1L $45.99
Absolut Elyx is a single estate, wheat based
premium vodka, its character and taste profile
unique as the local terroir. Most major vodkas,
are produced in giant stainless steel columns
with copper plates through out. Alcohol
transforms into vapors that rise up the column,
come into contact with the copper plates, and
then passing through, where some of the vapor
condenses and falls down the column to be

Maurin Quina Liqueur–750ml $34.99 was
invented by Auguste Maurin in 1906 near Lyon,
France. With me, it was one taste. Smooth,
elegant, Maurin is made by macerating wild
cherries, quinine and bitter almonds in fortified
white wine. It’s then blended with cherry
brandy, lemon and cherry juice. This stuff rocks
on its own, over fresh fruit, ice cream, and in
any drink imaginable. I’m not sure why it fell from grace, but Maurin
was recently reintroduced. At 32 proof mix it with Rye or Scotch
Whiskey, brilliant with Gin or Amaro…it’s a digestif, so use it in
place of Campari, Vermouth, etc…I love this stuff.
SPIRITS
Sotol Hacienda de Chihuahua – 750ml
$21.99, $25.99, $31.99 is made of 100 percent
wild Agavacea, from the Chihuahuan desert.
Bottled at 76 proof, it’s 100 percent pure,
organic and delicious. The Plata is smooth and
floral, full of the wild agaveca taste, so
different from tequila, mescal and bacanora. I
tell customers not to use this plata to make
margaritas, preferring to offer this bottle as a sipper. The Reposado
is aged six months or better. Clean and fresh, with the spice that
defines reposado agave spirits. The anejo is aged for a minimum of
two years, and I personally finished my first bottle in less than a
week. Every evening I wanted another glass, and then another.
at the close of the Civil War when he purchased O.F C. Distillery.
There, he developed innovative techniques that are still in use today.
Made by hand, this Small Batch Bourbon Whiskey has been aged
inside century old warehouses constructed by E.H. Taylor, Jr. Barrels
are evaluated and selected to create a perfect blend of distinctive
character that is like no other. This bourbon is a true sipping bourbon
that honors the uncompromising legacy of E.H. Taylor, Jr.
Noah’s Mill Small Batch Whiskey – 750ml
$55.99 If a customer asks for a bottle of
bourbon around $50 - $60, I hand them this.
Year in, year out, it’s the most talked about
bottle at our Bourbon Fest, by those unfamiliar
with the brand. Big, strong, authoritative, 114
percent, yet brilliantly balanced. A great deal
of credit has to be given to Hunter and Brit
Chavanne at Willett Distillery. This full-bodied beauty is
surprisingly smooth and complex. Toasty warm, the earthiness of
leather and coffee, dried fruit, brown sugar, and caramel. The long
finish lingers exquisitely, transcendent, not sugary. This is how to
make a high-proof bourbon.
Brokers Gin – 750 ml $19.99 1.75L $29.99
Broker’s is a brand with personality and
playfulness. Creators Martin and Andy
Dawson chose the image of a bowler-hatted
gentlemen - an archetypal stockbroker - to
reflect the fact that historically England is the
home of gin. Broker’s is a seriously good gin
with a quirky marketing approach, made in a 200-year-old distillery
in the heart of England using a traditional copper pot-still. The
recipe is as old as the distillery. A quadruple-distilled pure grain
spirit made from English wheat is redistilled with ten traditional
botanicals, creating a gin of outstanding flavor and smoothness.
Chartruese VEP Green – 1L $169.99 VEP
stands for Vieillissement Exceptionnellement
Prolongé, meaning “exceptionally prolonged
ageing” in English. It is made using the same
processes and the same secret formula as the
traditional liqueur, and by extra long ageing in
oak casks it reaches an exceptional quality.
Chartreuse VEP comes in both yellow and
green. While it is certainly among the very best, this may in fact be
the best bottle of spirit made.
Michters Sour Mash – 750ml $45.99 These
guys surprised me. We only carried the
Michters 10 Year Old Rye for the longest time,
not caring much for their bourbons. But this
bottle changed my mind. 86 Proof, big and
voluptuous, heavy, sweet and bitter, I enjoy a
glass of this whiskey very much. In 1989
Michter’s Original US*1 Sour Mash
disappeared from the marketplace – until now. December 2012
marked the first release of Michter’s Original US*1 Sour Mash
Whiskey in 23 years. It is made according to the traditional sour
mash whiskey making process whereby some previously fermented
mash is used as the starter for the new mash to be fermented.
Typically in most sour mash whiskeys, this “setback” from the prior
fermentation accounts for about 10 to 20 percent of the new mash
to be fermented. More than just a sour mash process whiskey,
Michter’s Original US*1 Sour Mash is made from a special
selection of grains, barrel aged, and later on filtered according to
the exacting Michter’s standards.
E.H. Taylor Small Batch – 750ml $39.99
From Buffalo Trace, the Small Batch is
complex, rich, smooth, warm, balanced, a
brilliant sipper. As founding father of the
bourbon industry, Colonel Edmund Haynes
Taylor, Jr. left an indelible legacy. His dedication to distilling began
Stephen McCarthy @Clear Creek –Steve McCarthy started Clear
Creek Distillery twenty-eight years ago because he wanted to find
the best use for the fruit from the McCarthy family’s orchard.
During his travels in Europe he became acquainted with a number
of traditional European spirits, among them an eau de vie made
from Williams Pear. Steve knew that with the wonderful fruit grown
in the Pacific Northwest he could make brandy just as good as that
he had tried in Europe; that is the origin of Clear Creek Distillery.
The name Clear Creek comes from the creek that runs through the
pear orchard in Parkdale, Oregon.

Fresh Oregon and Washington sweet cherries
are crushed, fermented, and distilled into clear,
powerful Kirschwasser (cherry Schnapps) in the
traditional German fashion. The flavor and great

Lots of uses in the kitchen. F. Paul Pacult, author of Kindred Spirits
(1997) and the Spirit Journal has described Clear Creek’s
Kirschwasser as “delicate and serene … feline delicacy of cherry
flavor robed in manageable spirit that plays like a string quartet …
Highly recommended” and called it “absolutely delightful.”
“The current release of Patrick Piuze’s “NonDosé” Crémant de Bourgogne is a superb wine
that transcends its appellation. The bright and
complex nose offers up scents of pear, lemon,
brioche, chalky minerality and a topnote of
apple blossoms. On the palate the wine is pure,
full-bodied and complex, with a lovely core,
reasonably refined mousse, crisp acids and excellent length and grip
on the focused finish…”- John Gillman View From The Cellar
Blue Plum Brandy (Slivovitz)
Certified Kosher for Passover – 375ml $27.99
Now certified Kosher! Blue Plum Brandy, known as Slivovitz in
much of Eastern Europe, in France as Quetsch and in Germany as
Zwetschgenwasser, is pot distilled from a pure fermented mash of
Italian Blue plums grown in Oregon. We make it much as it has
been made in Europe for centuries, but the result is smoother, more
aromatic, and more sophisticated than any European Blue Plum
Brandy. Makes a great sorbet. This keeps winning the gold medal
at the U.S. Slivovitz competition – even when we don’t enter.
NV Chartogne-Taillet Cuvee
Sainte Anne Brut $43.99
“Chartogne’s NV Brut Cuvee Sainte Anne is
an attractive entry-level offering with good
mid-palate richness and excellent overall balance. The significant
presence of red grapes gives the wine its expansive, broad
shouldered frame. The Cuvee Sainte Anne is 47% Pinot Noir, 39%
Chardonnay and 14% Pinot Meunier, based on the 2008 vintage,
with 28% reserve wine from 2007.” Wine Advocate
Mirabelle Plum - 375 ml $29.99
Our favorite Alsatian eau de vie is the Mirabelle. We looked for 20
years and finally found the fruit at King Estate near Eugene, Oregon
– wonderful, organically grown plums that make a great eau de
vie.”The power of the Clear Creek eau de vie of Mirabelle comes
…from its ripe, heady fragrance, its penetrating plum flavor and its
lingering freshness.” — Florence Fabricant, New York Times,
August 25, 2004
NV Delamotte “Blanc de Blancs”
Brut Champagne $48.99
“Green-tinged straw. Citrus fruits and white
flowers on the assertively perfumed nose and in the mouth, a hint
of iodine building with air. Fleshy and broad but dry, with a chalky
quality that carries through the long, sappy finish. A smooth
marriage of richness and vivacity, with the heft to handle richer
foods and the energy to be enjoyed by itself.” 91 Points Stephen

Douglas Fir - 375 ml $47.99
Inspired by an obscure Alsatian distillate called Eau de Vie de
Bourgeons de Sapin, Steve McCarthy worked on developing the
perfect Oregon version of a tree spirit, an Eau de Vie of Douglas Fir,
for ten years. This eau de vie is made from an infusion of the springtime buds of Douglas fir picked by hand into clear brandy which is
then re-distilled and re-infused with more buds. Finally it is strained
and bottled. The green color and complex fresh flavor are from the
Douglas Fir buds. No artificial colors or flavors are added.
NV Coessens Brut Nature $69.99
“100% Pinot Noir from the l’Argillier parcel
in Ville-sur-Arce. This bottling is based on the
2006 vintage, and was picked ripe at 11.3%
potential alcohol. Disgorged in May 2011
without dosage, it shows notes of caramel,
apples and licorice on a dense and powerful frame. Only 50 cases
produced.”
Here’s a mixed drink recipe…I mix with rum all the time, and with
a variety of ingredients…sake, port, brandy, you name it. A recent
cocktail I devised, on the rocks: 1 oz Zafra 21; 1 oz Borghetti Cafe
Liqueur; half & half; top with cream soda.
2004 Marion Bosser Brut Vintage Premier Cru $79.99
Zafra 21 - 750ml $45.99
This luxury rum is a masterful blend that’s neither sweet nor dry,
not too woody and without any one flavor dominating the profile.
It exhibits a perfect balance of well aged marques brought together
by a master blender.
Borghetti Café – 750ml $19.99
Made with the original recipe created by Ugo Borghetti in 1860, it
is a liqueur obtained from real espresso coffee. Its flavor is typically
Italian, characterized by a special blend of the best coffee qualities
from different regions of the world, prepared in huge coffee pots.

“The signature of Marion Bosser Champagne House is its elegant,
smooth and balanced Premiers Crus Champagnes made with great
care and rigor. The 2004 Vintage is a 50-50 blend of Chardonnay
and Pinot Noir. The Chardonnay is declassified from Grand Cru
vineyards of the village of Le Mesnil sur Oger and Premier Cru
vineyards of Vertus in the Cotes de Blanc. The Pinot Noir comes
from Premier Cru fruit grown in the villages of Hautvillers and
Cumieres. Aged for 7 years on its lies. Complex aromas of apple,
lemon, red fruit, biscuits, chalk, yeast and toast. It is crisp, fresh
and balanced with a nice mouthfeel and a moderately long finish.
A mere 66 cases produced.”

What You Absolutely Need To Know About Wine,
Tuesday, January 14 $53.
complement the wines. Riedel Glassware will be used. Valet Parking is included in the price of admission.See page 11 for details.
This class was previously named Absolute Beginning Wine
Appreciation, but that title limited the participants to people who
knew that didn’t know the basics of wine. Truth be told, there is a
lot of fundamental information about wine that most people have
just skipped over in order to get to the drinking part! So whether a
beginner or hardened vet, this class will teach you something you
didn’t know or at least were not sure of in the complex, wonderful
world of wine. While based on the information offered in Absolute
Beginners, this is a newly structured Power Point type of class
presented along with nine great wines to illustrate the information.
The most heard comments after this class are usually along the lines
of “I’ve been drinking wine for 15 years, going tasting in Santa
Barbara and Napa, etc, and I learned more about wine in the first
20 minutes of this class than I did in all that time!” Join Tasting &
Seminars Director JB Severin for an entertaining revelation.

You’ve heard of the AndersonValley, AtlasPeak and Alsace, but
what if you were offered an Apremont? I’ll bet you’ve tried a
Viognier; you may have tasted Vernaccia; but have you ever opened
a Vespolina? Tannat from Montevideo; Kekfrankos from Hungary;
what about Aglianico from....Paso Robles?!?!?! With a few classic
exceptions, the world of wine is limited to little more than the
winemaker’s palate and imagination, and the grapes they can get
their hands on. Join your host Daniel Guajardo as we explore some
of the world’s lesser known grapes and regions and discover just
what you might be missing!
