FRANKLIN PARK BAPTIST CHURCH
When I think of November I naturally
think of Thanksgiving and giving thanks.
When we " give thanks " it's usually because
of the generosity of someone else. Recently, a
team of sociologists from Notre Dame
conducts a study of what it means to be
generous in America. Their results can be
found in the book The Paradox of Generosity :
Giving We Receive, Grasping We Lose.
Interestingly, they identified five possible
different practices of
" generous people." 1) Voluntary financial
giving; 2) the giving of time [volunteering];
3) Relational Generosity ( being generous
with one's attention and emotions;
4). neighborly generosity [ acts of kindness
towards those who live and work around you]
and 5) the personal impact of generosity.
They found that when a person expresses
generosity to others in any of these ways, that
their own sense of well-being [happiness,
bodily health, purpose of living, avoidance of
depression and personal sense of growth ]
benefits, too.
Their study helps us recognize that there
are many ways to be generous and that we
have been the recipients of others' generosity.
Let us " pay it forward " and experience the
blessings that accompany a giving spirit.

From the family of Marcia Barnhart -“ We would
like to thank everyone for their love and support
during this difficult time and thru the last 5 years
as Mom's memory loss progressed. Mom loved
coming to church with Paul and I each week for the
past 10 years. She loved every one of you. We are
so blessed to have such wonderful friends here at
Franklin Park Baptist.
With love Cindy, Judy, Donna and Family
.
On Saturday, October 24th Christy Nichols
organized her team called "Gramma's Bunch" and
walked in the Alzheimer Walk on the North Shore of
Pittsburgh. 17 family members and Christy's coworker walked the 2.5 mile course and raised over
$400 for a cure. It's was a beautiful morning for a
walk in memory of her Gramma, Marcia Barnhart,
who recently passed away after a battle with the
disease.

October 25 was Tricia Mack’s last
Sunday as our Music Director. A
reception was held in the gym to wish
her well and say thank you to her for her
contributions to our music program.
THANK YOU for taking the time to
respond to the Pastor’s Search Survey. It
will be used by the committee as we
begin the search for a pastor that will fit
the needs of this church. Please keep the
Church Council in prayer as they
continue to do the tasks that are needed
during this transition period.

We will be decorating the sanctuary
and the church for Christmas the
Friday after Thanksgiving.
EVERYONE who enjoys this holiday
tradition is welcome to come out as
we join together to get ready for the
most beautiful holiday of the year.
WE GATHER TOGETHER
Our church has a tradition of cooperating with and worshipping with other congregations in our
area. That tradition will continue as we’ve been invited to worship together with Rev. Tom Fodor
at the Little Hill Church this Thanksgiving. Also participating will be Rev. Nathan Beard from
Fairmont Church. We’ll celebrate and give thanks together on Tuesday, November 24, 2015 at
7:00 p.m. Plan now to be there as we lift our voices in praise for God’s rich blessings.
I'm grateful for ...
In November 2014, many Facebook users accepted a gratitude challenge, posting what they were most
thankful for. An anonymous analysis of the posts revealed the top answers: friends (not surprisingly, for
a social-media site), family and health. State-by-state results garnered the most interest, though. Arizona
residents were most thankful for the rain, for example, while Hawaiians gave thanks for rainbows.
People in the Northeast were grateful for living near the beach, while those in the Bible belt expressed
gratitude for mercy, salvation and God’s Word. Top thankfulness topics in other states ranged from
YouTube and country music to “upbringing” and in-laws. What are you most thankful for, and why?
How has that answer changed throughout your life?

Calling ALL Those with Musical Talents
It is time to resume special music in our worship service. Now that
we are back in the Fall schedule we would like to have members of
the congregation provide some music (singing, instruments etc. )
alone or in a group. Please call the church office 724.935.3950 to
schedule a date to share your musical talents to our church family.
There is also a signup sheet in the sanctuary.
Please keep in prayer our Sunday School teachers :
Jason Barr and Dave Pilarski – team teaching the adult class in the parlor
Margaret Dixon – Early Elementary class
Jared Dauer, Stephen McKenna and Board Of Christian Education –
team teaching the 2 - 4th grade class.
Scott Cunningham – Junior and Senior Youth
Doug Frazier – Adult Class
With the holidays fast approaching we remind you
of the gift card project we offer on behalf of our
youth / mission group. It costs you only what you
put on the gift card and our group gets a
percentage of that amount from Great Lakes
SCRIP gift card program. EXAMPLE – You
pay $100.00 for a Home Depot card. You get
$100.00 on your card. If our group buys the card
for you you pay less than full face value (2 – 13 %
less depending on the retailer) . That difference
goes to our group as a rebate ! Talk to Ellen
McKenna or Laurie Dauer if you have any
questions. Visit the SCRIP website and see ALL
the companies that participate. You might be
surprised. www.shopwithscrip.com/learn
Orders are placed the first week of each month.
THANKSGIVING LUNCH
Sunday, November 22, 2015
following our worship service
we will join together as a
church family to celebrate a
Thanksgiving Meal in the
social room downstairs. Each
family is to bring a side dish or
a dessert. The rest of the meal
will be provided. Plan to attend
and enjoy a wonder time of
fellowship, a time of
thanksgiving and some
delicious food.
