INTERSECTION
Intersection is a one-hour pilot for a TV series dealing with issues, initiatives, and ideas
impacting the greater Los Angeles area. The first episode focuses on the current state
of affairs between African Americans and their relationship with law enforcement.
THE AMERICAN ST. NICK
World War II exacted a heavy toll on the people of Wiltz, Luxembourg, nearly
destroying the small town. Occupied by German forces for four years, the town was
subject to the whims of Nazi leadership: streets were renamed, the native language
was banned, religious freedoms were curtailed, and Saint Nicolas Day was outlawed.
The documentary The American Saint Nick chronicles a day at the height of the war
when the battle-weary 28th Infantry Division of the
American Army returned hope and joy to the children
and people of this war-torn town. On Dec. 5, 1944,
American soldiers, led by Harry Stuts, put their guns
down for one day and organized a party celebrating
the town's centuries-old Saint Nick tradition. Soldiers
made hot chocolate from their D-rations, company
cooks made donuts and cookies for the children, and
22-year-old corporal Richard Brookins from Rochester,
NY played the role of Saint Nick. An emotional and
heartfelt story, The American Saint Nick illustrates
how American soldiers and residents of the hamlet
were able to bond over a moment in time, creating a
tradition that continues to this day.

L.A. MAKES
L.A. Makes explores small businesses and the people who make Los Angeles the
amazing city that it is. Through the lens of small business owner and 30 year, public
television veteran, Tené Harris, the pilot episode, “L.A. Women Who Make” takes you
inside the day-to-day world of two small business owners who share their inspiring
stories.
Next, we met Shaunte Taylor, the owner and executive director of Ethan and Friends
Family Daycare. Nestled in Baldwin Vista, just north of Baldwin Hills, this homebased daycare is just about everything a parent could want for their child. From
creative learning centers, to farm-to-table lessons, Shaunté has not only transformed
the interior of her home but also the exterior into a wonderful place of learning,
discovery and creative exploration for children.
We conclude the episode with insights and tips from Jan Perry, General Manager of
the Los Angeles Economic & Workforce Development Department. She shared the
important role that small businesses play in the Los Angeles economy, provided specific information for Leah and Shaunte, and also detailed a step by step plan for those
who might be interested in starting their own small business.
Future episodes of this series will profile and celebrate small business owners in L.A.,
and how their products and services are impacting the small business scene in Los
Angeles. From Cottage Food Operators to Storefronts, to Non-profits and everything
in between, get ready to meet the people who make L.A., on LA Makes.
Airs Wednesday, December 2nd at 8PM and Saturday, December 5th at 6:30PM

Leah Ferrazzani’s journey as a business owner began in her home as a Cottage Food
Operator but as her customer base expanded, she quickly realized she needed a larger and better equipped food production space. We met Leah at LA Prep, a fulltime
wholesale manufacturing and food production facility in Lincoln Heights, and learned
all about her Semolina Artisanal Pasta business. Evan Kleiman, host of Good Food on
KCRW, stopped by to make a wonderful dish with Leah’s pasta and shared the beauty
and benefits of using dried pasta in certain dishes.
