ROI News 15th June 2016 - Royal Oak Intermediate
15th June 2016
Dear Parents & Caregivers,
At Royal Oak Intermediate we invite, and appreciate, collaboration and communication with our parents and whānau. One of
the quickest ways of obtaining information is via surveys; and I would like to thank you for participating in the recent BYOD
survey. It is important to share the results of that survey with you. Please take some time to read through the results.
Thank you
Derek Linington, Principal

Girls’ Rugby – Ka Rere Royal Oak Intermediate
Last Friday our girls Under 55kg rugby team played a match against Waikowhai Intermediate here at our school during the lunch
break. The Game was played in fine, but wet under foot conditions. The tone was set with many of our students and staff on the
side line supporting our girls with great RERE spirit. In a tense but exciting final our ROI girls scored 4 quick tries to none in the
first quarter. The try scorers were Tina, Mary, Meipera and Miyah. No tries were scored by either team in the 2nd quarter. In the
3rd quarter Waikowhai scored two unanswered tries. In the 4th quarter Hinemoa scored a fifth try for ROI. Congratulations to
the team for winning the Central Zone Girls Under 55kg Rugby Final 25 to 10 and thus qualifying for the Inter-Zone Girls’ Rugby
Finals on Thursday the 30th of June at College Rifles.
Hinemoa and Mary had an outstanding game. They were both ably supported by co-captains Tina and Meipera. Miyah, Jatima
and Journey also deserve a mention because of their contribution to the game.
Huge thanks must go to, as always, to Mrs TeHoia Watford for getting the team ready for the game. Thank you to parent
helpers Malo and Tom for warming the team up before the game and to Mr Webber for his part in the lead up to the finals and
on the day, his expert encouragement and coaching ensured the victory.
It is also important to mention that this was the first game that
our team used the brand new rugby uniforms.
I would like to thank the Four Winds Foundation for their very
generous donation that enabled us to buy the uniforms.
The following twenty-three girls represented ROI proudly at the Central Zone Finals last week and are the Champions.

Our ROI boys proudly displayed great RERE values right through the very wet and windy day at Avondale Racecourse.
Huge thanks must go to Malo Mauga, Thomas Zachan, Trudy Jahnke-Tavana, Ana Pulu, Maru Tangimataiti & our own Mr Drury
for Coaching and transporting our tamariki on the day.
Also, it was awesome to see so many parents come out to support and encourage their boys on a wild winters day. Thank you
parents.
