The Beazley Buzz A Place Buzzin’ with Activity! May and June 2016 399-8156 Director’s Note: Our Fun Photo Happy spring to all! It’s about time the rain and wind is lessening so we can get out and enjoy all the May flowers in bloom! Our Vounteer Luncheon was a lot of fun on April 11th! Members, please join us in thanking our volunteers for all they do to help make BSC an attractive place to visit offering many diverse activities! This summer, the Fired Arts Studio, again, is holding Grandchildren’s Day on Thursdays beginning June 23 through Aug. 25th. This year, however, we will need you to register your grandchildren as only 8 children will be permitted in the studio at one time due to limited staff and space. With interest so high, a Sewing Circle has been initiated and will meet on Thursdays and Fridays. See Sewing Circle description under the Special Events/New Programming page for specific days. On the third Tuesday of each month, we will now have a “Golden” Bingo, sponsored by Golden Living Center, during our regularly scheduled days. Something new and different! Prizes and refreshments. Come try it out! I do need to convey a few reminders and notices. 1) Numerous items are in the “Lost and Found.” Please see Susan if you are missing something. 2) Anyone wanting to attract and observe Monarch Butterflies, we have Milkweed seeds you can plant in your yard. 3) We have one instructor for Geneology/Ancestory, therefore, scheduled appointments are subject to change. Please be assured if this happens to you, every effort will be made to reschedule another appointment at the earliest convenience. Finally, the Fired Arts Studio closes at 4:00. Cleanup must begin at 3:45. Instructors need the last 30 minutes to prepare for the next day. Hope to see you soon! The original web dream catcher of the Ojibwa was intended to teach natural wisdom. Nature is a profound teacher. Dream catchers of twigs, sinew, and feathers have been woven since ancient times by Ojibwa people. They were woven by the grandfathers and grandmothers for newborn children and hung above the cradleboard to give the infants peaceful, beautiful dreams. The night air is filled with dreams. Good dreams are clear and know the way to the dreamer, descending through the feathers. The slightest movement of the feathers indicated the passage of yet another beautiful dream. Bad dreams, however, are chaotic and confusing. They cannot find their way through the web and are trapped there until the sun rises and evaporates them like the morning dew. – DreamCatcher.org A limited supply of decorations will be available to decorate your dream catcher. If you would rather not weave the inside of your project, bring a doily (example above) to fill the circle. You may also bring any decorations you have at home to use. Donovan is recruited from his prestigious law firm to defend accused Soviet spy Rudolf Abel. It's an unenviable task in many respects. Donovan hasn't practiced criminal law since he was a prosecutor at the Nuremburg trials after World War II. Also, the strong anti-Communist mood at the time makes him a target from who think Abel should just be executed. Abel is convicted but Donovan convinces the judge to sentence him to prison, rather than execute him, as they may at some point in the future want to swap him for an American spy the Soviets might have in custody. Just such a scenario comes into play when in 1960 U-2 spy pilot Francis Gary Powers is shot down over Soviet territory and taken prisoner. Donovan is again recruited to act as the intermediary and negotiate swapping Able for the American requiring him to travel to East Berlin crossing the newly built Berlin Wall. The number of decks used is typically one more than the number of players, though this can vary. Due to the larger pool of available cards, it is much easier to form canastas in Hand and Foot than in standard Canasta, which changes the strategy considerably.
