The Danish/Norwegian psaligrapher Karen Bit Vejle is the most recognized
paper cut artist in Scandinavia to day. Since 2009 Vejles traveling
exhibition has been touring prominent museums in Scandinavia meeting
considerable public attention. The exhibition can show usually high
numbers by Scandinavian standards - the two last shows has been seen
by 64.000 and 80.000 visitors.
Vejle has also made commissioned works for many famous brands for
example: HERMÈS, Hilton, and GEORG JENSEN.
Karen Bit Vejle creates images of air and paper. Her form of expression,
psaligraphy, literally means the art of drawing or painting with scissors.
The works are formed from a large, continuous piece of paper that is
folded one, two, and three times, and then cut using only a pair of
scissors. Karen Bit Vejle is always cutting while listening to music and
every single scissor cut is carefully planned, as the slightest mistake can
have disastrous consequences for the finished result. This is a slow art of
painstaking patience that demands the utmost concentration.
Karen Bit Vejle’s magical cuttings are rooted in a tradition that has known
a long journey through history. But she has created a personal style and
technique that are entirely her own. For more than 35 years she has been
absorbed, fascinated, and deeply committed to this art form that
developed from small, simple snowflakes to unusually large and highly
complex art works. Her largest work yet measures 16,4 ft x 3,4 ft. and is
based on associations of Dmitri Shostakovich's Piano Trio No. 1 Op 8.
There is a great degree of humor in Karen Bit Vejle's world of imagery;
humor and the ability to identify joy in small things. Just as often, though,
she confronts deep seriousness and themes intended to invoke
involvement and reflection. Inn all Karen Bit Vejles works there is a story
behind cut. Her works are captivating surprise packages. By meeting
Karen Bit Vejle’s images of air and paper we can find ourselves both
surprised and inspired.

The exhibition has wide audience appeal! We recommend long-term view,
as experience shows that the longer the show is up, the more visitors
come.
Exhibition specifications:
The exhibition size is 300m² but may be adjusted up to 400 m2 or down
to a minimum of 200 m². All art works are mounted between glass plates
and hang from the ceiling.
The exhibition contains 54 original psaligraphic art works combined with a
dedicated sound stage composed for saxophone and scissors by the
profiled Norwegian composers Henning Sommero and John Pål Inderberg.
Additionally the exhibition offers a challenging and exiting workshop
where visitors can unfold themselves creatively with scissors and paper
and a film (7 minutes) showing the artist creating a large scale paper cut.
The exhibition has huge ability for hosting school classes and other
groupes.

Additional offer 1: H.C. Andersen paper cuts
The Danish poet, Hans Christian Andersen, famous for his fairy tails, was
also a skilled paper cutter of his time. However, this is not generally
known and we are very proud to cooperate with H.C. Andersen museum in
Denmark and due to this we are able to offer display of four original paper
cuts by H. C. Andersen in addition to the exhibition.
Karen Bit Vejle was invited exhibitor in H.C. Andersen’s Museum in
Odense Denmark from 15th of January to 17th of May 2010 and she was

then given the honor, as the first person ever, to use H.C.
Andersens`papercut scissors since the poet died 135 years ago. If the
museum wants to take advantage of this rare opportunity, it involves a
separate contract between your museum and the H.C Andersen Museum.
Additional offer 2: PR and Opening event – The Ballerina Bulldog Ballet
Ballerina Bulldog is an ethical and aesthetic concept based on Karen Bit
Vejle's paper clip shape Ballerina Bulldog. The series consists 25 paper
clips which are exhibited as part of the exhibition.
The papercut concept is further developed into a small ballet. The
papercut figure becomes alive, as a proper ballet dancer and a real
bulldog are dancing ballet – telling the story about Ballerina Bulldog and
her powertool universe. This concept has been a greate suksess in
Scandinavia and is very well suited as a PR stunt and event during the
exhibition opening.
