You are our Brother no matter how many miles separate us. Keep your head up and watch your back! Every month we get 15 – 20 people requesting free advertising for their nonprofit event or fundraiser. It is economically impossible for us to print free advertising for every worthwhile charitable cause. OKLAHOMA BIKER the Riders Ragazine sponsors three (3) charities. They are cancer research (cancersucks. com), child abuse (Bikers Against Child Abuse), and children with cancer (Ally’s House). We understand all charitable events require advertising in 5 order for them to be successful. For that reason, we will offer FIFTY PERCENT (50%) off of our regular ad prices for charitable events. In other words, if an ad typically costs $100.00 we will charge only $50.00 for the ad to promote charitable causes. In order to obtain this savings you must agree to place our OKLAHOMA BIKER logo or name on ALL advertising materials, including, but not limited to, flyers, posters, tee shirts, tickets, etc. Charitable ads will be printed on a “space available” basis in OKLAHOMA BIKER the Riders Ragazine. If a Poker Run is involved in the fundraiser Oklahoma Biker’s advertisers MUST be used exclusively as stops on the Poker Run. Each ad must be verified as a nonprofit event by OKLAHOMA BIKER staff. Ads must be submitted for consideration no less than 30 days prior to the actual event. Remember any event may be listed for FREE on our What’s Happenin’ page (as space permits). We wish to thank you in advance for using OKLAHOMA BIKER the Riders Ragazine to promote your next event. The Janitor est.1998. Pryor,OK. So since we are part of the only Marine Infantry Battalion left in Iraq the one way we could think of doing that is by taking a picture of Baker Company saying the way we feel. It would be awesome if you could find a way to share this with our fellow countrymen. I was wondering if there was any way to get this into your paper to let the world know that “WE HAVE NOT FORGOTTEN” and are proud to serve our country.’ Semper Fi 1st Sgt Dave Jobe 12 12 OKLAHOMA BIKER RAG Oh, I wish I’d looked after me dear old knockers, Not flashed them to boys behind the school lockers, Or let them get fondled by randy old dockers, Oh, I wish I’d looked after me tits. ‘Cause now I’m much older and gravity’s winning. It’s Nature’s revenge for all that sinning, And those dirty memories are rapidly dimming, Oh, I wish I’d looked after me tits. ‘Cause tits can be such troublesome things When they no longer bounce, but dangle and swing. And although they go well with my Bingo wings, I wish I’d looked after me tits. When they’re both long enough to tie up in a bow, When it’s not the sweet chariot that swings low, When they’re less of a friend and more of a foe, Then I wish I’d looked after me tits. When I was young I got whistles and hoots, From the men on the site to the men in the suits, Now me nipples get stuck in the zips on me boots, Oh, I wish I’d looked after me tits. When I was younger I rode bikes and scooters, Cruising around with my favorite suitors. Now the wheels get entangled with my dangling hooters, I wish I’d looked after me tits. When they follow behind and get trapped in the door, When they’re less in the air and more near the floor, When people see less of them rather than more, Oh, I wish I’d looked after me tits. About 90-100 children and adolescents, ages newborn to 15, are diagnosed with cancer each year in Oklahoma, with the majority of patients staying in the state for care at OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City. At Ally’s House they work with doctors and staff at OU Medical Center to identify patients in need. Those families are then referred to Ally’s House where staff evaluates their situation and identifies ways to help. One significant contribution to date has been in the area of prescriptions, which has proven to be the most critical need for most families. Many drugs are not covered by insurance, or are expensive despite coverage. Since Ally’s House began their pharmacy assistance program, families who cannot afford their child’s prescriptions have relied on Ally’s House to pick up the tab. In many cases, Ally’s House families see their household incomes dip sharply. Often a parent stops working to care for the sick child and to manage their treatment and side effects. This can also affect the status of OKLAHOMA BIKER RAG their health insurance with their employers, forcing families to pay their insurance premiums – and no paycheck from which to deduct those costs. In addition, there are repeated trips to the hospital, and an endless number of empty gas tanks, quick meals, and other expenses related to being away from home. Often the most effective way to help these families is to pay their rent or mortgage for a few months, easing the financial burden and freeing up their limited income for other purposes. William H. Meyer, M.D., is the Head of Pediatric Hematology/ Oncology at OU Medical Center. He says, “The burden of treatment, including the costs of care, out-ofpocket living expenses, and travel to the treatment center, is quite high for most families. Ally’s House makes a big impact on Oklahoma’s children with cancer by helping to ease this burden. In addition to meeting financial needs, Ally’s House hosts activities in an effort to improve goodwill and quality of life for the cancer kids and families. These activities include: amusement park trips, toy drives, ice cream socials, arts and crafts, sporting event tickets, etc. They work very hard to put smiles OKLAHOMA BIKER RAG on the faces of both parents and children. Ally’s House is a non-profit organization and donations are tax deductible. Allison Faith Webb was born September 6, 2000 to Scott and Linda Webb. Allison, also known as Ally, was a happy toddler with a sunny disposition. She amazed family, friends and hospital staff with her quick mind, recognizing letters of the alphabet by sight before the age of 2. She loved to paint and color, and was fond of Dora the Explorer, The Wiggles, Monsters Inc. and Shrek, to name a few. Just before her 2nd birthday, Ally developed a knot on the side of her belly. Her mother took her to the doctor, who ordered an ultrasound. By the end of the day, the family was shocked to learn Allison had large tumors on both kidneys. The following week her parents took her to the Jimmy Everest Center at Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City for a CT scan. That day they learned that Ally had small spots on her lungs as well. A surgical biopsy confirmed that Ally had Wilm’s tumors, a form of kidney cancer. She had “bilateral” disease, which meant both kidneys were involved. This occurs only in about 5% of Wilm’s tumor cases. Ally had 3 major surgeries, radiation and 3 different kinds of chemotherapy. She received care at Children’s Hospital in Oklahoma City and at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis. Unfortunately, Ally lost her battle 19 with cancer on August 6, 2003, in her mother’s arms, a month shy of her 3rd birthday. Allison’s favorite place was home. After a long hospital stay, she was always thrilled to get back home. Each time she returned, she would happily say, “We’re at Ally’s house!” For this reason, the name “Ally’s House” has special significance for Allison’s family and friends. It symbolizes a safe place – a place of welcome, where comfort and love help ease the burden. For More Information Ally’s House P.O. Alligator tears spilled down my face as I gazed at the photographs of children suffering from cancer. Beginning with our very first issue OKLAHOMA BIKER has supported cancer research via Cancersucks.com. This Rag will always support Cancer Sucks because we believe in their mission and know the money goes where it is promised. However, we have now decided to dedicate much of our effort to help these Oklahoma children needing our assistance. I hope you will investigate this worthwhile organization and find it worthy of your time and money. Admittedly, I began listening to Matt Thompson with cynicism. He was performing a solo act with only a guitar. How mundane can an act be — and he didn’t even look like a biker! Soon I learned Matt Thompson is guilty by association. His friends have names like Joker, Trash, Troll and Sparrow. I also understood Matt Thompson’s appeal to bikers. His blend of moving lyrics and massive guitar licks is reminiscent of David Allen Coe and Ray Wylie Hubbard during their 70’s heyday. Thompson’s original music unifies One of the things I like about Matt Thompson is his willingness to sign autographs for his fans. a mix of southern rock, outlaw country and mournful blues. Military Man is southern and larger-than-life. My Brothers and Me, County Jail, and Tortilla Chips and Rum (you will love this Jimmy Buffetstyled tune) are rowdy and fun. Go Away has an instantly recognizable Stevie Ray Vaughn influence. Matt Thompson will play at Magoo’s (51st & Memorial • Tulsa) on August 30th beginning at 2pm for the Ally’s House benefit. Later that evening he will be at Scotty’s Bar (3116 W 61st • Tulsa), and the following day he will rock Ed’s Hurricane Lounge (3216 E 11th). Until then you can listen to his music at www.myspace.com/ mattthompsontunes. In today’s world not everyone can afford health insurance, but everyone deserves the right to have access to health care, especially in times of great necessity. Like Maria Ward, this foundation will reach out to all that will listen, especially the ones that need it most.
