Attention CTK Parishioners, we need your expertise! We are looking for a few talented individuals to help us this summer at our Vacation Bible School program. Do you enjoy teaching children? We are having a planning meeting for our adult leaders and decorators at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday, June 17th, in the CTK Parish Center. Adult leaders who have signed up as a volunteer or may be interested in volunteering are welcome to attend. If you have any questions, please contact Theresa Maggiore or Kathy DeSalle at the numbers listed below. Are your kids signed up to join us at VBS this summer? If not, there is still time! Simply go to our site and sign them up! We are looking forward to seeing them this summer at CTK Totally Catholic “Weird Animals” VBS! Service hours can be used to fulfill CTK and SHG requirements. JUNE 15TH, 2014 CHRIST THE KING MINI-FARMERS MARKET At the recent St. Vincent DePaul meeting, we decided to offer again like last summer a Mini-Farmers’ Market in the parish, after Masses in the vestibule. The way it will work is, parishioners are asked to bring their excess garden produce to place on a common table. Parishioners at large will then make a free will offering for the fresh produce to take home. SVdP will coordinate this, and all proceeds will go the Holy Family Food Pantry. This is a win-win-win exchange. Your excess produce is not wasted. Our senior members and others, who cannot get to the farmers market in town and may not be able to afford retail prices, get fresh garden produce. Holy Family Food Pantry can feed the poor through our efforts. So as you are planning your garden, plant a row for the hungry, and praise the Lord for his blessings! SAVE THE DATE! In Her Cherished Heart 2014 diocesan women's conference is Saturday, Sept 13 8:30-3:30 at the Chiara Center in Springfield. Lunch, mass, goody bags, vendors. Find us on Facebook at: In Her Cherished Heart or email the team: [email protected] . This is sponsored by the Diocesan Office of Marriage and Family Life. Most Holy Trinity JUNE 15TH, 2014 CHRIST THE KING PARISH—Rev. Joseph Ring, Pastor 1930 Barberry Dr. - Springfield, IL www.ctkparish.com 217/546-3527 THE PASTOR’S PEN I am away today, celebrating my birthday in Paris with my Mom and some family. Thanks to Fr. Tom McDermott for filling in for me. Today we celebrate the great mystery of our Christian faith, the Holy Trinity. We profess our faith in God who is one in three Persons. One of the deepest truths that the doctrine of the Trinity reveals to us is that God is in relationship. The union of the Father, Son and Spirit is a fluid one. The Trinity is always working, always moving, animating the world with divine life. Pay attention when you say (pray) the Creed, which defines what and in whom we believe. Happy Father’s Day to all the dads in the parish. Today as sons and daughters we extend our love and gratitude to our dads. Some are with us; others are with our heavenly Father. A father’s love makes all the difference to each of us, and it can change the world. Blessings to all dads! Check out www.FATHERSFORGOOD.ORG, an initiative for men by the Knights of Columbus. There you will find numerous good articles and videos. On this Father’s Day, look at Courageous Dads for your own affirmation and encouragement. Last weekend I so enjoyed our celebration of Pentecost. What a spirit-filled liturgy to conclude our Easter season! The music was uplifting, the environment was extraordinary, the young ladies with the choreographed flags as the prelude at the 9:30 & 11 Masses was a first, the first reading in Spanish, Italian and French, depending on what Mass you attended, and seeing many of you wearing red, all made it special. Planning for all this began weeks ago, and hours of preparation went into making it an exceptional weekend. Thanks to so many who help pull it all together. You can find pictures and a video on our website and Facebook. Now the church is beautifully decorated for Ordinary Time. I helped the crew some last Sunday afternoon with the transformation. What vision and talent. Thanks so much! Congratulations to all those in our parish who have graduated from grade school, high school, college and graduate schools this spring. We pray that God’s blessing direct them in their life’s journey, to become whom God created them to be. This week the census committee will begin making calls to the 820 households who have not returned the new census form. I am grateful for their help, and your cooperation when they call. The next part of the project is entering all the accurate data into the computer. Please know that all your info is used for parish purposes only. This week I have an initial meeting with some of our young adult singles to see what kind of ministry and group we could begin. Next weekend a special collection will be gathered to support the missionary work of our own Father Tom McDermott, CSC, who is home from Bangladesh. Good to have you back! Next Saturday the Diocesan Council of Catholic Women will host the “Our Lady of Good Counsel Award: Women of Distinction” event, with Mass at the Cathedral with Bishop Paprocki, followed by the recognition luncheon. Our parishioner, Mary Willcockson, is our Woman of Distinction. Mary has been a member here since 1964, and over the years she has been involved in a variety of groups, taking leadership in a number of activities, all for the good of our parish. What an example of generous stewardship and committed discipleship. Congratulations Mary! I will join Mary at the Mass and luncheon on Saturday. Have a good week! Fr. It will be held on Saturday, June 28, 2014 from 5:30-6:30 pm in the Atrium of the Cathedral of the Immaculate ConcepƟon. Mr. Nussbaum serves as a consultant to the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops Commi ee on Religious Freedom, of which Bishop Paprocki is a member. Bishop Paprocki will also be present to offer his comments. Light refreshments will be served. The second event is a 30-40 minute Prayer Rally for Religious Liberty led by Bishop Paprocki on Tuesday, July 1, 2014 at noon in front of the Lincoln Statue at the State Capitol building, South 2nd Street & East Capitol Avenue. In case of rain, we will congregate in the Auditorium. Both events are free and all are invited and encouraged to a end. For more informa on on the USCCB’s prayer campaign for Religious Liberty, go to: http://www.usccb.org/ issues-and-action/religious-liberty/fortnight-forfreedom/index.cfm CD of the Week Called Onward By Brother Lazarus -Chase Hilgenbrinck Presented by Lighthouse Catholic Youth: This is the story of two top-tier athletes who answered the call of Christ to, “sell everything that you have...then, come follow me.” The first part is the story of Sam Sharpe who was a top MLB prospect and collegiate pitcher at the Uniersity of Nebraska before joining the Community of Franciscan Friars of the Renewal (more commonly known as the “CFRs”) in September of 2011. Chase Hilgenbrinck enjoyed great success on the soccer field playing in the top division in Chile before returning to the U.S. to play for MLS. He left all of that and is now a seminiarian at Mount St. Mary’s Seminary in Emmitsburg, Maryland. Parishioner Comments: It was so refreshing to hear the testimony of other young people who have chosen the Lord over the things of this world. ………….Clare—Coatesville, PA Visit the Kiosk in the main vestibule of the church for this CD. JUNE 15TH, 2014 STEWARDSHIP The Gospel today is sometimes called “the Gospel in miniature” because it so concisely sums up the Gospel message. In even more condensed form, “God loved...God gave…,” it is the paradigm for stewardship—we give because we love. Some who defend abortion claim that one is "truly human" only when able to reason, to choose, and to be creative. Yet a book about how to perform abortions contains this quote: "Surely embryos and fetuses do none of these things. In fact, neither do newborns, and there's the rub. Presumably it would be equally as acceptable to destroy newborns as fetuses, since both are in the same prehuman boat" (Second Trimester Abortion: Perspectives After a Decade of Experience, Berger et al., eds., p. 215). Think about it. Happy Fathers Day to all the fathers in our parish. Wives, give your husbands the greatest gift of all, the gift of your love on a Marriage Encounter Weekend.
