A new venture that Hils & Pete have
come up with for a clubnight is a “table
top” sale for all things MX5. So if you
have no more use for any bits and
pieces just take them along next
Tuesday 3 November and then barter/
haggle to find a bargain of your own.
Another first is the idea of giving the
Wessex members a say in which
charity they would like to benefit from
money accrued from clubnight raffles.
Look out for the special “Charity Box”
set up in Drusillas.

Christmas Cards
Christmas will be upon us soon and the giving and receiving of cards will be
happening amongst friends and family.
Claire and I have done this for a few years now, instead of giving cards at Christmas
we have chosen to give a donation to a local charity. This year we will be giving to
Naomi House nr Winchester.
Instead of a Christmas card list, we have made up a Christmas Hug list. Needless to
say we wish everyone a happy time at Christmas and a good new year.

The rims are as new having only been on the road a very few times. They can be viewed at MX5 parts, which is where I bought

Ideas & suggestions for the Wessex Event Calendar 2016
We would like to hear from members who have any ideas for next year's calendar. PLEASE give it some thought. We are always
open to suggestions and try to make the calendar relevant so that members are happy with the events that are offered.

*Visits to places of interest
*Scenic Drives
*Visiting speakers to Clubnights
If you are willing to organise a Drive and/or visit and can give a preferred date we would be pleased to hear from you. We have
filled in some dates but there are still more empty spaces. We are hoping to finalise the Calendar by the end of the year with events
and organiser /volunteers.

MX5 2016 Calendar
The Calendar is enjoyed by the Club's many thousands of members throughout the coming year. It is included with the next edition
of Soft Top in December and is distributed free to every member, our Club partners and sponsors.
The Calendar is made up entirely of members photographs and images are invited from every member no matter what level of photographic ability you have, from beginner to professional all images are welcome, using whatever photographic equipment you
have, from smart phones to state of the art digital equipment, its the picture that matters. For 2016 the Calendar theme is Speed and
Beauty, this can be interpreted in any way.
If selected for a month in the Calendar your image will be reproduced in upwards of 7500 calendars and if you have a great picture
of your car from the past year that you would like to see in the calendar or you have looked at previous calendars and thought 'I can
do better', then please send in your picture in!
The calendar would not be possible without members sending in pictures and pictures can only be selected from what is sent.
All that is asked is that images are of the highest possible resolution that you are able to submit, the higher the resolution of the
image the better it is for printing in the calendar at A4 size.

Deadline for submission is Friday 6th November 2015, at 5pm. Only images submitted on or before this date can be considered.
How to send in your photograph
All images will be credited. We would like to continue to publish extra details about photos in the calendar, please try to give as
much information as you can

picture was taken etc
Because of the very tight production timescale and to assist with admin, before sending your pictures please could you rename the
file with your own name e.g. DSC1234.jpg - becomes- ur_name.jpg, ur_name2.jpg etc
If you are not the photographer please provide their name also and please check they are happy for you to send the image. If your
image goes forward for selection you will contacted to confirm information and permissions.
Only Club Members Vehicles or photographs can be featured.
Important Information, Guidelines and Technical requirements
Images should be the highest resolution possible
Please attach images to an email and send to [email protected]
Please try to keep the single email message size below 9MB if your message is over this please try to send multiple emails, if your
image is over this size please email us at [email protected] for other file transfer options.
Original image files are requested.
Please do not edit out number plates, if your image is chosen your registration will not be published without your permission, obscuring your registration poorly may affect your image being chosen.
Overly altered, composite or edited images generally won't be used. The calendar is a photographic publication, open to all members.
Please do not send multiples of the same shot or with minor visual changes to only composure or angle, pick the one you think is
best and submit it.
The Club is not able to pay for images used, applicable outlines for photographic submission can be found in STHT.
Images submitted for the Calendar in previous years or to Soft Top Hard Top in the past 12 months do not need to be sent again,
they will be considered automatically.
Because of the nature of the calendar only a limited number of pictures can make it in, it is not possible to use all the images submitted, but we truly appreciate all the images that are sent for consideration.

Bovington Tank Museum Visit
14 October
What a wonderful drive so many of you missed. About 7 cars drew
up at the usual Cadnam Garden Centre and the drivers plus passenger occupants exchanged the normal pleasantries and partook of the
coffee, chocolate, or sticky buns. Unfortunately several members
had prior family engagements so had only stopped off for the social
aspect. This left only 5 cars so an easy convoy lay ahead.
Roger advised us, that as there were insufficient numbers to
create a party entry at the Tank Museum, we would have to enter on
our own recognisant. Having been doled out the driving indication
sheet we buried them in the footwell and chose to do the normal,
follow the car in front. A run across The New Forest, through
All lined up and ready to go!
Fordingbridge, Alderholt, and on to Cranborne Chase. Then out
towards Sixpenny Handley and down towards Blandford Forum.
From there to Bere Regis and the final run to The Tank Museum.
Great roads were enjoyed with the sun doing what we like so much, shining on the righteous.
Here we met Richard who had been patiently waiting for our appearance. We all chose to eat and chat prior to entering the Museum. Having stocked up our furnaces it was time to either say our farewells or buy our entry tickets to a fascinating history of our
heritage.
My thanks go to Roger for his efforts in creating one of the best drives I have enjoyed in many years.

Bovington Tank Museum Visit on 14th October.
What a super route Roger planned out for us to the Tank Museum and it was such a pity that so many of our regulars were unable
to join us. The convoy of five cars found it quite easy to keep in touch with Roger despite him being in his very quick Le Mans
until he caught up with a learner in a smart car.The route took us through a number of villages that we are starting to recognise
thanks to previous runs that we have been on.
At the Museum we met up with Richard and all decided that we should have lunch before going in. The food was very tasty and
very well priced. A quick drink and then off we all went.
The displays are very well laid out and cover a vast area all of which is under cover. One of the exhibits traced the machinery used
during the First World War and gave a flavour of what it would have been like in the trenches. It must have been very daunting as
well as frightening.
Another static display showed what our troops in Afghanistan have to put up with on a daily basis. Then there was the opportunity
to enter one of the tanks but as the queue was quite long only Richard persevered. There was though the opportunity to see inside a
cut in half tank which showed just how little room there was for the occupants.
There was another display which contained the tank used in the film Fury and I was able to find this on Sky’s Demand channel for
Peter when we got home. His view is that it is a very well made film that in his opinion gives one of the best demonstrations of just
how horrible war is. Very realistic and highly recommended if you like war films.

Sunday 18th October run.
Today’s run, which was organised by Gill & Vic Jelley, was one of the
most enjoyable runs we have taken part in and can only be described as
a real drivers drive. It was a 47 mile round trip starting at John Browns,
Wyevale Garden Centre and taking us on roads that ranged from little
used single track lanes to major ‘A’ roads and everything in between.
We passed through several of small villages and through some very
picturesque countryside. A total of nine cars took part which included
two new member’s cars, one driven by Richard & Sharon and the other
by their friends Roman & Barbara. Also there was the lovely new MK4
of Sue & Guy and what a great colour choice.
All ready to go from the Garden Centre
At the end of the run we finished up at the Crane Golf Club where we
were joined by Valerie & Neil making a total of 20 members for lunch.
The views across the 18th hole and beyond were superb with many of
the trees taking on their autumn colours. The roast dinner was excellent
with a choice of two or three courses. As Jayne does not eat meat we
were concerned that there would not be a choice for her but the clubs
staff were most accommodating and she was able to enjoy a lovely
omelette.

Sunday 18th October Drive
We met at Wyvale Garden Centre, Three Legged Cross for coffee, and welcomed
six new members.
Lovely to see Sue and Guy in their new mk4.
Nine cars left the carpark, and headed towards West Moors going down a few new
roads not travelled before. There's still a few left to find. Some narrow lanes, and we
met a tractor just in the right place to get by. He made our cars look very little. A
few bikes on route makes it interesting.
Our drive took us past Compton Abbas air field then across to Win Green and into
the Donheads. We made our way through the the country lanes of Berwick St John
and a funny little village called Ebbesbourne Wake - Well in the sticks.
Then on to civilisation - Sixpenny Handley. Our drive ended at the Crane Valley
Golf Club near Verwood. It is a lovely setting. We had a good carvery with a choice
of Beef or Gammon. But if you were greedy like one person I know you can have
both.
Even DAVID could not manage a pudding, after starters and main!
Looking across the golf course the Autumn colours looked lovely. So thank you Gil
and Vic for a lovely drive out in Dorset and a bit of Wiltshire.
