Ang magbigay ng konkreto at angkop na mga datos ang layunin ng Socio-Economic Profile ng mga Barangay. Ito rin ang magsisilbing matibay na batayan upang mabalangkas ng Pamahalaang Bayan ang mga programang pangkaunlaran na ang mamamayan ang higit na makikinabang. Ang ating mamamayan ang salamin ng kaunlaran ng bayan kaya ang progreso ng apatnapu’t dalawang barangay ay pinapahalagahan ng Lokal na Pamahalaan ng Atimonan. Ang Socio-economic Profile ang testimonya na patuloy ang pag-unlad ng ating bayan. Sama-samang magsimula, Walang Maiiwan sa pag-unlad ng ATIMONAN! JOEL M. VERGAÑO Punumbayan KATANGIAN AT INTERPRETASYON SA OPISYAL NA LOGO NG BARANGAY Ang opisyal na sagisag (logo) ay binubuo ng dalawang hugis bilog, isa(1) sa loob at isa sa labas. Ang espasyo sa gitna ng dalawang (2) hugis bilog ay nakasulat ang mga sumusunod: BARANGAY TALABA – pangalan ng barangay at nakalagay sa itaas na bahagi ng hugis bilog. ATIMONAN, QUEZON – pangalan ng bayan at probinsyang nakakasakop sa Barangay at nakalagay sa ibabang bahagi ng hugis bilog. Ang gitnang bahagi ng nasa loob ng bilog ang mga sumasagisag sa pagkakakilanlan ng barangay ay ang mga sumusunod: TALABA tulad ng isang pagkain na tinaguriang talaba na siyang makilala bilang isang pangunahing pagkain na siyang napapakinabangan ng mamamayan sa aming barangay. VISION Mga mamamayang tunay na nagmamahal sa sariling bayan at may pagpapahalaga na malaman ang sariling kakayahan at sa kaunlaran ng pamayanan. Bilang opisyal ng Barangay, ang sangguniang barangay ay patuloy na lalahok sa mga pagsasanay para sa patuloy na paglilingkod sa mga kababayan MISSION Mabantayan at mapangalagaan ng pantay-pantay ang mga karapatan ng bawat mamamayan. Maibahagi at maipaunawa sa mga kababayan ang kaalaman tungkol sa kanilang karapatan. Maipaunawa sa mga kababayan ang kanikanilang sariling kakayahan upang maibahagi sa pagpapaunlad ng pamayanan. Maipagpatuloy ang pagsasanay para sa pagpapatuloy na paglilingkod sa mga kababayan 1. HISTORICAL BACKGROUND KASAYSAYAN NG BARANGAY TALABA Noong unang panahon na kakaunti pa ang naninirahan sa lugar na ito ay may uri ng hayop na nakadikit sa mga bato at puno ng sasa na dito lamang matatagpuan sa lugar na ito. Minsan ang magkapatid na Simeona Mangaba ay namasyal sa lugar na ito na maraming talaba. Marami silang nakita na mga tao na kumukuha ng mga ito at pagkatapos ay inaasiman ng kalamansi at ito ay kinain na nila na sa pakiwari nga ay napakasarap kainin. Inalok sila na tikman ang kanilang kinakain. Hindi nakatiis at nagtanong si Simeona Mangaba kung ano ang pangalan ng kinain nila hindi ito sinabi sa kanila at sa halip ay sinabi na “kung kayong dalawa ay kakain sasabihin ko sa inyo kung ano ang pangalan.” Sandaling nag-isip si Simeona at pagkaraang mag-isip ay pumayag siyang tikman ang kanilang niluto. Tinikman niya ito at napagkaalaman niyang talaga naman palang masarap ang mga ito. Noon niya napag-alaman na ang pangalan pala ng kanilang kianakain ay “TALABA” na ito ay nabubuhay lamang sa abot ng tubig alat at nakadikit sa mga bato at puno ng sasa. Ito ay nakukuha sa pamamagitan ng paggamit ng gulok o itak. Kung kaya dito na rin hinango ang pangalan ng nayon sa tawag na Talaba. 2. PHYSICAL CHARACTERISTICS Brgy. Talaba is one of the barangays located along Maharlika Highway and in inner part of Atimonan, located about 10-kilometers away from the town’s poblacion. It is bounded on the north by Barangay Balubad, on the south by Barangay Malusak, on the west by Barangay Kilait and on the east by Brgy. Buhangin and Habingan. It has a total land area of 328.9248 hectares per record of Municipal Assessor’s Office composed of three sitios- Purok 1, Purok 2 and Purok 3. Topography of the barangay is mostly mountainous and hilly. Almost 98% of land is agricultural. SOCIO-ECONOMIC SECTOR 3.1 DEMOGRAPHY RHU Survey of Population 2014, showed that Brgy. Talaba had a population of 1486 with computed growth rate 1.09%. There are more male than female, with age distribution revealing 71.26% of the total population belong to ages 10-59 years old; 19.24% under 1 year old to 9 years old and 9.48% belonging to 60 years old and above. This shows that Brgy. Talaba has more working population than dependent population. School going population (pre-school, elementary, secondary and college) is computed at 35% of the total population and the most common religion is Roman Catholic. 3.1.1. There is no existing irrigation system that contributed to the limited production of farm products. Some of the populace are leaned to poultry production for additional source of income.
