Welcome to Southmoreland Primary Center! 2015Kindergarten Orientation About SPC • • • • • • • Demographics Grades K and 1 135 Kindergarten students 149 First Grade students 54% Economically Disadvantaged 14% Special Education (Includes Speech) Schoolwide Title I We all learn together… We all learn together… Kindergarten is the beginning of the journey • Welcome – Mr. Clara, Principal – Introductions • • • • • • • • • • • • Ms. Sarah Kiliany, Guidance Counselor Ms. Lisa Fratto, Guidance Counselor SES Mrs. Amanda Vielma, RN SPC Mrs. Kathy Pallygus, RN SES/SMS Mrs. Linda Yonkey, RN SHS Mrs. Sherry Fowler, Secretary to the Principal Mrs. Kelly Vance, Building Secretary Mrs. Lynn Huggins, Food Service Director Mr. Charlie Swink, Athletic Director and Transportation Director Mrs. Laura Geyer, Transportation Secretary Mr. Art Showman, Groomes/Quest Transportation and Busing Mrs. Linnsey Kenney, PTA President Kindergarten is the beginning of the journey – Student Handbook – 2015-16 School Calendar (pg. 5) » Note: This calendar is subject to change – Attendance Policy (pg. 7) » Pennsylvania School Law and Southmoreland School District Policy » “BASE” (Be At School Every day) program at SPC – Arrival and Departure Procedure (pg. 9) • Students should arrive at SPC by no later than 9:00 AM • Tardy bell: 9:15 AM • Please do not leave your vehicle to drop off or pick up students • Dismissal Procedure Attendance is BASE-ic • To be on the BASE team, a student must: – Miss three or fewer days (including tardy or absent) in a nine week period – A celebration for each nine weeks will be held to reward students whose attendance is 95% per nine weeks or better – Each nine weeks, students can begin again – Students who have three or fewer absences will have their “BASEball cards” on display in the school BASEball Cards Parent Volunteering • We are looking for parents to assist with our lunch supervision at SPC! • 11:15-12:25 each day • Duties will include assisting students with lunch items and monitoring students with faculty • Part of our school-parent-community vision • A sign-up sheet for parent training is in the main office Daily 5, Guided Reading and meeting student literacy needs • The Daily 5 is our structure for improving literacy through guided reading and individual conferencing. • This is our second year of the program. • Our data tells us that students are becoming great independent readers!
