June 2016 Serving Highland Heights, Lyndhurst, Mayfield Heights, Mayfield Village & South Euclid Exciting Changes to the Local Ads……….pgs. 10 & 11 on Community Partnership Trips and Local Meet-up info…..pg. Aging Newsletter! 12 You’ll notice the first change right away as we’ve been fortunate to add more pages to our newsletter beginning this month! This added space will help us to communicate the information you need about programs and services offered by CPA in a more orderly fashion (or so we hope!). Some other changes that you want to be aware of: ▪ The Program Location Addresses are on the calendar page 7. Look there for locations that CPA uses for on-site programming! ▪ This column will highlight a program, service or person each month; ▪ The picture on the front page will be a visual highlight of CPA events, programs or services; ▪ The ‘Inside this Issue’ box on the inside front cover (page 2) will be a directory to important information on the other pages. Please bear with us as we tweak the format for changes that will make reading the CPA newsletter better! An Ursuline College student of Fashion Design and Merchandising (front) walks through the crowd during the Ursuline College “Pretty in Prints” Fashion Show hosted by CPA at Ross C. DeJohn Community Center on March 29. The show was a huge success with a Chicken Marsala dinner prepared by CPA Chef Warren, and commentated by Dr. Connie Korosec, Ursuline College Fashion Department Chair (back). See page 12 of this newsletter for more fun social events with CPA! Our Main Office is at South Euclid Community Center at 1370 Victory Dr. in South Euclid, 44121 Main phone: 216-291-3902 Fax: 216-291-0773 Hours: Monday - Friday, 9:00AM - 5:00 PM Email: [email protected] Web: www.communitypartnershiponaging.org You can also reach staff at the following numbers: ▪ Lyndhurst Office: 440-473-5138 (Monday - Wednesday, 10:00AM - 3:00PM) ▪ Mayfield Heights and Mayfield Village Outreach Office: 440-442-2628 (call for appointments) ▪ Lunch and Program locations vary; please refer to the calendar page for more information, or call 216-650-4029 during the hours of 9:00 AM - 3:00 PM, Monday - Friday. ǯǣ ǡ Ǧ News from the Community Partnership on Aging Executive Director, Stacey O’Brien Senior Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program applications are available now and due in our office no later than Monday, June 6, by 3:00 PM. Public raffle drawings will be held (winners DO NOT need to be present). For those who wish to attend, raffles will be conducted according to the following schedule: 44118: Monday, June 13, 11:00 AM 44122: Tuesday, June 14, 10:00 AM 44143: Tuesday, June 14, 1:00 PM 44121: Monday, June 13, 1:00 PM 44124: Tuesday, June 14, 11:00 AM We were fortunate recently to have a first meeting (we hope there will be more!) with staff from the Cleveland LGBT Community Center, one of the 27 SAGE (Services and Advocacy for Gay Elders) affiliates throughout the US. We all face similar challenges and anxieties as we age. We experience the aging of our bodies and some of us also experience increased dependency on others; many of us try to find ways to maintain a valued place in society. Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgendered older adults have been largely invisible, until recently and they face additional challenges related to aging, including unequal treatment under the law, reliance on informal families of choice for care and support, and the significant effect of stigma. SAGE Cleveland is a national program designed to help improve the lives of older adults in the LGBT Community. If you are interested in learning more about SAGE Cleveland, or know someone who may be interested, visit their website (www.sagecleveland.org) or call 216.651.5428, ext.117 for information and upcoming activities. A Taste of Cedar Center fundraiser is in the works for Thursday, July 14 from 5:30-7:30 PM. See page 9 for details and ticket information. This year, for the first time, we’ll be initiating an annual campaign. The Summer of Giving will be formally kicked off in August. Our agency is fortunate to be trusted with meeting the needs of older adults all year long to ensure they have opportunities to access the programs and services that will support their aging in place. Providing those programs and services can be costly and we are hopeful that you will give to the extent you are able! Stayed tuned in the coming months for activities and information about our first-ever Summer of Giving.
