Mayfield School Newsletter
November 11th 2015
Dear Parents and Community members,
Thank you to all the children that participated in the Wearable arts competition and the parents
that came along to support them at the Ashburton A and P show. It is a credit to our school that
we would have had the most entries of any school in Mid-Canterbury. Congratulations to all the
children for the fabulous designs they created and the children who volunteered to act as models.
Next Monday it is school photos. You should have received a leaflet about school photos a while
ago. Children will need to be dressed in correct summer school uniform.
Just a reminder to please inform the office every day your child is absent from school. We have a
legal requirement to chase up absent children. We also require a reason why a child is away. If
we don’t have a reason your child will be marked as having an unexplained absence.
Our school procedure for attendance also states that if a child is away sick for 3 days or more
than a medical certificate is required to be sent to school.
While coming to school regularly is important anytime, this time of year is especially important, as
teachers are carrying out end of year testing. The information gleamed from these tests coupled
with what teachers know already about the children, help form the national standards judgements
in Reading, Writing and Maths and help form the basis for evaluative comments in other
curriculum areas.
Thank you to everybody that filled in the survey form. When all the information has been collated
I will be able to give you a summary of what has been said.
On Thursday 10th December we have a whole school trip planned to Timaru. We will visit the
Caroline Bay Swimming Pools and weather permitting the Caroline Bay playground and beach. We
plan to leave at 9am and be back in Mayfield around 3pm. More information about this trip will
follow shortly.
Kind regards
Richard Kidd
