OCTOBER 11, 2015 4 From the Pastor’s Desk…. Welcome, Bishop Nicholas DiMarzio! Today, October 11, 2015, our Bishop Di Marzio will visit us and celebrate the 12:15 PM Mass. After the Eucharistic Celebration, Bishop Di Marzio will meet some of the parish leaders and ministers in Tolentine Hall. It is a great joy for us as a parish to welcome our Shepherd who comes to us to strengthen our faith and encourage us to continue to make St. Nick’s a vibrant parish. World Mission Sunday October 18, 2015 World Mission Sunday is a day set aside for the Catholic Church throughout the world to publicly renew its commitment to the missionary movement. It is celebrated on the third Sunday of October every year. It was created by Pope Pius XI in 1926 as a day of prayer and the propagation of the missions. On this day we are invited to “bring Good News to all the nations”. Pope Francis reminds us that, “Mission is part of the ‘Grammar’ of faith, something essential for those who listen to the voice of the Spirit who whispers both ‘Come’ and ‘Go forth’ Those who follow Christ cannot fail to be missionaries…”. We pray for the missionaries and evangelizers that through our prayers and generosity they and we may continue to spread the Gospel of Jesus throughout the world. New Music Director I would like to share with you that Mr. Jose L. Villanueva is our new Director of Music, who will join us at the end of October. He has 30 years experience as music director in the various parishes of the Diocese of Brooklyn. I would like to warmly welcome Jose to St. Nicholas of Tolentine Parish. Following Jesus is an important decision In today’s Gospel Jesus invited a rich man to make a choice. He asked him “Go, sell what you have, and give to the poor and…and follow me” (Mk 10:21). The rich man made the wrong decision because he was possessed by his possessions. He is probably the only person in the Gospel who talked to Jesus in person and yet turned down his invitation to discipleship. We all are possessed by something that stands in the way of our following Jesus more faithfully. There are so many different things preventing us from doing so. Jesus constantly invites each one of us to respond to his call. The question of the day is: Are we willing to let go of anything that holds us back from following Jesus’ way? God bless you, Fr. John Francis PROJECT ANDREW - An evening of prayer and fellowship for young Catholic men considering the Priesthood will be held at St. Nicholas of Tolentine on Sunday, November 22, 2015 from 4:30 - 6:30 pm in Tolentine Hall, with Special Guest: Auxiliary Bishop Octavio Cisneros.
