Today’s good news
The writer of the Book of Wisdom reflects the theology of
his day: “God did not make death” (v 13), he tells us.
Rather, God made everything to be good. As for humanity,
“God formed [us] to be imperishable” (v 23). It is only
through the devil that death comes into the picture. We
are called, then, to choose God and the way of life.
In light of a collection being taken up for the needy within
the church, Paul appeals to the generosity of the
Corinthians by speaking of the example of Jesus, who
“though he was rich” (v 9) became poor for the sake of the
believers. This kenosis or self-emptying of Christ is to
serve as an example for us. Appealing to the example of
God’s gift of manna in the wilderness (v 15), Paul writes
that it is God’s will that none should go without, which
means “your abundance … should supply their needs” (v
14). God gives generously of his abundance; so must we.
The two miracles in today’s Gospel — the healings of
Jairus’ daughter and the woman with the hemorrhage —
exemplify people with great faith. Jairus’s daughter “is at
the point of death” (v 23), and the woman, who has been
suffering for 12 years, has depleted her funds “but only
grew worse” (v 26). Yet they both believe that Jesus can do
something for them. Both the young girl and the woman
are cut off from society: the girl by her illness and the
woman because her hemorrhage makes her unclean. In
reaching out to Jesus, Jairus and the woman express their
faith that he can make them whole, restoring them to the
fullness of life. These sicknesses would be seen as the work
of the devil in Jesus’ day. By healing them Jesus shows
that he has power over the devil. The story of Jairus’s
daughter, complicated by her death, shows that Jesus even
has power over death.

STEWARDSHIP
Stewardship Thought: Today’s reading from St.
Paul explains the “divine economy” of stewardship —
“The relief of others ought not to impoverish you; there
should be a certain equality. Your plenty at the present
time should supply their need so that their surplus may
in turn one day supply your need.”

CONFERENCE — Exciting plans are under way for
THE OLOGICAL FORMATION PROGRAM
Please mark your calendar—Fr Chris’ next Theological
Formation session is scheduled for Monday, August 20 at
6:30pm in the Church (there is no session scheduled for
July).
LOOKING FOR VOLUNTEERS
St Teresa Church is interested in developing a list of able
bodied volunteers who would be willing to be called upon to
set up the Church tent for various events throughout the
year. The larger we can make this list, then the less
frequently you may be called in rotation. If you would be
willing to be on this list, please call Bruce or Donna Moquin
at 631-3878.

the 2012 Pastoral Care Conference. Please save the date
and join us on August 25th at Saints Peter and Paul
Catholic Church, Winter Park. Bishop John Noonan will
open the day with the celebration of Mass at 9:00 a.m. The
theme chosen by the planning committee is “Do you see Me
Now? Nurturing the Healthy Minister in Ourselves.”
National speakers, Graziano and Nancy Marcheschi, will
entertain and inspire as they show us new ways to love
ourselves and our neighbors, so that we may live Jesus’
command to, “love one another as I have loved you” (John
15:12).
This conference is accepted towards continuing education
for MTS recertification.
FIRST FRIDAY
WELCOME FR. MARK
We welcome Fr. Mark who traditionally comes to help us
during the month of July from Tanzania. He is a fellow
Salvatorian and confrere of Fr. Chris and Fr. Gabriel
working in the African Missions. We will have an annual
collection to support Salvatorian Missions in Africa on the
weekend of July 21-22.
POLITICAL
RESPONSIBILITY
BY
UNITED
STATES COUNCIL OF CATHOLIC BISHOPS
(USCCB)
The challenge for our Church is to be principled without
being soft, to be involved without being used. Our moral
framework does not easily fit the categories of right or left,
Republican or Democrat. We are called to measure every
party and movement by how their agenda touches human
life and human dignity. A key question is where are “the
least among us” in any national agenda?
The goal of St. Teresa School is to equip 15 classrooms
with the combinations of following basic components
of a 21st Century classroom.
Mounted LCD Video Projector minimum 2500
lumens - $500 (4 purchased, 1 needed)
Projector Mount - $150 (2 purchased, 2 needed)
Projector Mount Installation - $250 (4 needed)
Networked Desktop / Laptop or Tablet for Teacher
workstation - $625 (1 purchased, 12 needed)
Wireless VGA adaptor - $100 (4 needed)
Computer Lab Work Station - $425 (25 needed)
Optional Digital Document Camera $250 (5 purchased, 6 needed)
Optional Response Systems (class set
of 18 to be shared) - $1800 ($500
received, $1300 needed)
If you would like to donate towards the
purchase of these items, please send
the donation to the school office.

First Friday
Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament will be
held on Friday, July 6, in the Chapel
immediately following the 8:30am Mass until
4:45pm. Evening Prayer and Benediction will
be celebrated at 4:45. Please try to spend
some time before the Blessed Sacrament.
N A TI O N A L C AL L F O R P R AY E R W E E K E N D
You have seen the signs around the Church regarding a
National Call for Prayer and Repentance Day on July 14th
asking God to heal our nation. This is a grass roots effort
by our parishioner Rita Indiveri. Check out the web
address 714-Project.com ….714 for July 14 and for the
biblical reference: 2 Chronicles 7:14 which states that if we
repent of our sinfulness and renew our commitment to
God, he will heal our land: “Please America, let’s get down
on our knees and with a humble heart pray for the
restoration of this country. Join as a community in fasting
and prayer. Devote this day, July 14th, to God…and
perhaps he just might look kindly on us as a nation once
again.” Please take a business size card in the back of the
Church as a reminder to set July 14 aside as a day of prayer
for our country. Check out the web address on the card to
see ideas on what you can do and spread the message to
family, friends, prayer groups, etc.
THANK YOU
Thank you for your generous donations to the Care Package
Drive for our overseas military troops which Benjamin Bair,
a member of Boy Scout Troup 481 (sponsored by the
Knights of Columbus) organized for his Eagle project.
500TH ANNIVERSARY OF ST. TERESA’S BIRTH
The celebration of St. Teresa of Avila’s 500th Anniversary
of her birth takes place in 2015. We are planning a special
trip to honor our Parish’s patron saint with a trip to Avila,
Spain, including going to Lourdes, France and Fatima,
Portugal in September of 2014 (Since it will be cheaper to
go earlier than in 2015.). So, start saving your money for
approximately a 10 to 12 day trip in 2 years.
RU MMAGE SALE
Titusville High School Project Graduation 2013 will be
holding a Rummage Sale in mid-July to help provide a
substance-free graduation night for our high school seniors.
They are accepting donations of furniture, clothing, toys,
tools, etc. For more information or to donate items please
contact Matt Horner at 268-2820.

Thirteenth Sunday in Ordinary Time
Wisdom 1:13-15; 2:23-24
WHAT THE CREATOR NEVER CREATED
T
he Book of Wisdom says there are three things God did not make: death,
destruction and injustice. Yet we live with them every day.
Wisdom believes that God intended the world to be a much better place. We humans
were made in the image of God, designed to be as imperishable as God is. God did not
“make” death. God is good.
God also intended that the creatures of the world would be wholesome, and that plants
would provide nourishment and health—“not a destructive drug among them.” In this
view, God did not create violence among animals nor poisons among drugs.
And God expected that justice would reign, because justice, like God, is undying. Justice
is an expression of God’s will. Everything that God made was good.
That is the view of the Book of Wisdom. But it isn’t a picture of the world we live in. The
Book of Wisdom knows why: “By the envy of the devil, death entered the world, and they
who belong to his company experience it.” The presence of evil, which was not precisely
created by God according to this view, frustrated the designs of God’s more perfect
creation.
God did not create evil, but we know that evil exists, and that death, destruction and
injustice abound. But we also believe they are not part of God’s eternal plan, and that
those who belong to God’s company will experience justice, salvation, and life everlasting.
