Perino has a strong partnership with the New Zealand
Department of Conservation in preserving and
protecting a unique ecosystem. The New Zealand
Brushtail Possum is a non-native, invasive animal found
in the country’s wild landscapes. They cause such
harm to native life, that conservation programmes are
essential. Just as fall turns to winter, Perino plays a
natural part in the cycle of conservation.

PERINO – A WORLD OF FIRSTS
Perino is a first in cashmere, merino and silk yarn blends with New Zealand Brushtail
Possum. This pure downy undercoat fibre has a unique hollow-core offering a world
of firsts to the fashion industry. So soft, it floats like mist along the body’s horizon.
So light, it creates volume without the weight. So warm, designers can be minimal
with maximum impact. Like a hazy silhouette at sunrise, garments have a distinctive
halo-like layer that look as heavenly as they feel.
Although the latest blends are new to the market, the New Zealand Brushtail Possum
yarn has already made its way into the international realm with Hermes-Paris featuring
a Perino garment in their ready to wear women’s collection. Designer Kate Mischler
is an advocate of the yarn, and uses Perino as the point of difference in her bespoke
knitwear brand, Elka.
Perino is available in a range of four blends: Cirrus, Nimbus, Cumulus and Stratus.
It is no coincidence that these blends are named after clouds. The range includes a
premium blend of cashmere-silk, a luxuriously-warm blend of merino-silk, an original
full-textured blend, and an everyday blend for accessible opulence. This Fall Winter
2016/17 range is available in 59 colours of Forest, Wild, Smoke and Ice, aligning itself
with the international upcoming trends.
Perino is an innovation by New Zealand yarn company Woolyarns. Developed
in 1992, Perino has played a part in New Zealand conservation by productively using
the fibre of non-native New Zealand Brushtail Possum. Since 2010, the range has
grown from merino yarn blends to introduce cashmere and silk, and this more refined
Brushtail Possum Down. No doubt, Perino is a world of firsts that won’t be your last.
