Hurricane Matthew
Help Catholic Relief
Services assist those stricken by Hurricane Matthew
in the Caribbean, especially in the impoverished
country of Haiti. To donate, visit www.crs.org.
Food Baskets For Place of Grace
Traditionally, MMOC has a food drive
for Place of Grace during October. So,
for the entire month of October, all
donated items will be delivered to
Place of Grace. The following are their
greatest needs: detergent, paper towels, and toilet
paper; Mac & cheese, coffee, mini-yogurts, peanut
butter & jelly, tuna, spaghetti sauce, oatmeal, fruit
cans, and lots of cereal. Let's help them out!
Church Cleaning Many volunteers showed up
to help out on Saturday morning. Thank you so
much!
Knights Of Columbus Divine Mercy Film A
beautifully produced documentary film on Divine
Mercy titled The Face of Mercy will air on
Channel 19, Sunday, Oct. 23 at 12:30pm.
15 Minutes on the Sacraments During the Fall
months we are taking brief looks at the sacraments.
Simply move to the front of church about 5 minutes
after the closing hymn on the following weekends:
This weekend: Sacraments of Initiation (Deacon
Sage) Dec. 3-4: Sacraments of Healing (Tom
Thibodeau)
Mission Co-op Sunday
Next weekend we
welcome Msgr. Joseph Hirsch from Casa Hogar, the
Diocesan orphanage in Peru. A second collection
will be taken up for this worthy cause to support the
children.
All Saints Day Mass Times Tuesday, November
1st at 7:30 am, 12 noon, and 5:30 pm.
Book of Remembrance In the month
of November – beginning with the
Feasts of All Saints (Nov 1) and All
Souls (Nov 2) – the Family of God
remembers the souls of our departed
loved ones. MMOC records the names of
parishioners who have died in the previous 12
months in our Book of Remembrance. Everyone is
invited to pray for them and to write the names of
their own loved ones whose funerals have been in
other places, especially those who have died in the
last year. The Book of Remembrance will be in a
place of honor near the Easter Paschal Candle for
the majority of the month of November.
Evening of Remembrance An Evening of
Remembrance Prayer Service will be held on
Thursday, November 3 at 6:30 pm. Mary Mother
of the Church will call to mind the souls of our
departed
loved
ones,
especially
those
parishioners who have had their funerals with us in
the previous 12 months. All are welcome.
Pictures in Memory of Loved Ones
On
Thursday, November 3, MMOC will remember and
celebrate our loved ones who have gone before us
marked by the sign of faith. As part of this
remembrance, we invite any and all to bring to
church by the weekend of Oct 29 - 30 a picture of
your family members or friends who have died and
we will arrange them in church. This is not just for
those who have died this past year; consider doing
this if you have never done it before. The display will
be created Monday, Oct. 31 for the weekend
Masses, but additional pictures will be added until
the Nov 3 service. It would be helpful, but not
necessary, if the picture is in a frame that could
stand on its own. Simply place them in the box at
the front entrance of church. Please make sure all
pictures are marked with your name so we can
return them to the rightful owners. The display will
remain in place through the Nov 6 weekend.
Family Life
Requiescat in Pace Please pray for the repose
of the soul of Karen Arndt who died on October
15. Our prayers and sincere sympathy are
extended to her family and friends who mourn her
loss. Eternal rest grant onto Karen, O Lord, and
may perpetual light shine upon her.

Seminarian Update
Liturgical Roles
October 29th & 30th
Daniel Williams – to be ordained in
2020: “After having spent a beautiful
summer at the Institute for Priestly
Formation in Omaha focusing on my
own spiritual life, I have started my first
year of theological studies at St. Francis
de Sales Seminary in Milwaukee. I have
really begun to appreciate my brother seminarians in
the community, my classes are focusing in on
deeper
theological
truths,
and
mid-term
examinations have flown by. As much as I have
settled in here at the seminary, I still think and pray
for you all at Mary, Mother of the Church. My
experience with you taught me that my heart will
always be most filled when I am in a parish setting
and this gives me courage to continue in my studies
as I look forward to being a parish priest someday.
Even here at the seminary, I have been assigned to
two parishes to grow even more in my pastoral
formation and grow in forming the heart of a pastor.
Overall, my time here at the seminary has been
blessed and I ask for your continued prayers and
support as I move even closer to the priesthood.
Know of my love and prayer for you all and for the
parish community.”
Brandon Guenther – to be ordained
in 2019: “I hope this little message
finds you well! Here at the North
American College in Rome we are in
the thick of the schedule now; classes,
community prayer, homily practice,
and all sorts of wonderful things.
Sometimes I wish there was a dull moment. I
always find it funny to say that I’ve left home in
Wisconsin to go to my home in Rome, but it certainly
is a blessing to be in Europe with all of its history and
to live so close to Pope Francis. Of course, being
away from home is not always easy; away from
family, friends, my parish families at Ss. Peter and
Paul and MMOC…and Culver’s. But it is a lot easier
being away knowing I will be back before too long
and knowing of so many wonderful people praying
for me! Take care and know of my prayers in return.
Matthew Bowe – to be ordained in
2021: "Everything is going well, and I
am enjoying my time teaching
catechism to the ninth-grade students.
Every week has been interesting and
great, to say the least. They come with
many questions, and I hope they
continue to do so. Special thanks to those who
assist me, Lu Ann Miller and Francisco from Place of
Grace!"

Building Our Future Together
Last weekend Kevin Burch, a representa$ve from
Catholic Chari$es, thanked us for suppor$ng the work of
Catholic Chari$es through the DAA, as well as the Angel
Tree, Food Baskets, and covering the 1st & 3rd Thursdays
at the Warming Center. It was good to hear the difference we are making in the lives of real people!
As with Catholic Chari$es, the DAA is the largest
source of financial support for the Forma$on of our future Permanent Deacons and for our future Priests. We
know these are real people, too! In fact we’ve go!en to
know a couple seminarians: Daniel Williams who spent
2015-16 with us and Brandon Guenther who spent the
summer with us. A third seminarian, Ma!hew Bowe,
commutes to MMOC in order to teach our 9th Grade Religious Educa$on class on Wednesday evenings. [ You can
read their updates in today’s bulle$n!]
If you have children or grandchildren in college or
graduate programs, you know it is very expensive. This is
true of college seminaries and graduate-level seminaries,
too. The Diocese of La Crosse has a $1,000,000 annual
budget for the educa$on and forma$on of seminarians. The DAA provides $480,000 of it – about half. We
are blessed to have 32 seminarians. For the 17 men in
college seminary it is about $20,000 a year for each one;
they pay part of their own expenses. For the 15 men in
theology studies it is about $45,000 for each one. Daniel
and Brandon are in theology studies. If you think of it,
our $107,707 covers their $90,000 expenses…to say
nothing of Ma!hew Bowe, Permanent Deacons, Catholic
Chari$es, and other valued needs.
Yes, the DAA helps real people. We urge you to respond to the Appeal with the same spirit of sacrifice and
trust in God as you recently did for our BOFT capital
campaign. Please respond to the Diocesan Annual Appeal
with your generous, sacrificial gi#. Any amount achieved
in excess of our goal comes directly back to our parish to
be used for our regular opera$ons.
Next weekend we will provide a progress report on
Building Our Future Together. There have been some
recent developments!
