Leeds Leeds JJewish ewish FFree ree SSchool chool Summer 2015 A Message from the Headteacher… As we approach the end of our second year I think we should all take the time and look back at what has been achieved. You can see from the photographs and articles that LJFS continues to grow and develop what we offer our students. Congratulations to all our Prize Winners this year who were recognised as being great assets to LJFS. In September we will almost double in size again, with over five times the number of pupils we had when we opened. This would only happen if the trust the families have put in the school has been matched with the provision we have offered. We do not rest on our laurels and keep looking for our next steps. Next year our Year 9 students will make their GCSE choices and head into Key Stage 4. We have plans in place for after school clubs including: * Chess Club * School Newspaper/Magazine * Sports Club * Book Group We also hosted our first Primary inter-­‐school event with five schools (including Brodetsky) taking part in the Assault Course Challenge, underlining our growing place and reputation in our local community. To cap this off we should be able to publish our first Ofsted report over the holiday which will give us a great platform to build on next year. Executive Headteacher T: 0113 269 3 176 E: [email protected] W: www.ljfs.org Assault Course Challenge LJFS were delighted to welcome five of our partner primary schools to our Assault Course Challenge Day on 9th July. This was a fun event for younger children who were let loose onto a daring assault course. LJFS students acted as ambassadors and mentored the Primary children, managing the entire event successfully– they also managed to have lots of fun on the day! ICT Update From September we will be updating some of our ICT equipment. Every student will receive a brand-­‐new iPad mini when they return in September. Mr Dunford is currently looking for a new school and a new home for the well-­‐used old iPads! Rodillian Update I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone at LJFS for making me feel so welcome in what has been quite a hectic start to my time here. As soon as I came to have a look around in May I had a real sense of belonging and knew that I had found my perfect role. All the students, staff, parents and Governors are so friendly and caring, whilst having a strong commitment to fulfil the potential for all. I can honestly say it has been the m ost rewarding half term of my (quite long and varied) teaching career so far and I am looking forward to the start of the new academic year in September and in the longer term to being part of this fantastic journey. At the end of May 2015 Mr Naylor our P.E teacher asked us to run to represent LJFS and Rodillian Academy. We were Training for 3 weeks on the field at LJFS at form period for the event at South Leeds Stadium. On 18th June 2015 we steer off to the stadium to meet Mr Naylor. We started to train around the lands and we jogged 400m and stretched. We were given our numbers for our race. We were allocated group A for year 7 and group B for year 8 for the 100m race. Lisa came fourth: 14:78 seconds and Ella(whose trousers kept falling down ) came first: 14:20 seconds. After that race, Mr Naylor said that we should do the 4x100m relay with two other girls from Rodillian Academy so we did. Ella ran 2nd leg in the relay and Lisa ran the 4th leg with the sprint finish. The relay team came second place and would like to thank Mr Naylor for this opportunity and thank you to Miss Jagger for helping us train. Lisa and Ella (Year 7), LJFS
A Word from our Governors… ... And in the blink of an eye we have come to the end of our second year of LJFS, but what a year it has been. Our numbers have more than doubled, our students have to a person made excellent academic progress and as at least as important grown in confidence and capability, we've had BBQ's, Bar Mitzvah's and Bat Chayils, we've had assault courses and mock elections and of course we had Ofsted -­‐ twice (the final report still being awaited, but all went well). It has been an exceptionally busy year and a year that all of our LJFS family can take huge pride in how far we have come as a school community. The next year promises to be just as busy, a new (bigger) cohort of students into year 7, GCSE choices for our year 9's, a number of trips abroad, new students coming into years 8 and 9 to name just some highlights. Now it's time for a break and well earned rest for all of our students, staff and indeed Governors.
