As you’ll be aware, Mi-space have been working on a planned housing maintenance project for
Taunton Deane Borough Council, based at Vilberie Close, Norton Fitzwarren since August 2012.
Having recently moved from the area, we thought it best to send an update about what we managed
to accomplish during our time.
WHAT WE’VE ACHIEVED:
We’ve been working on homes owned by Taunton Dean
Borough Council, replacing roofs, kitchens and bathrooms.
The work has been carried out whilst residents remain at
home.

>> Over 300 new bathrooms
(Resident satisfaction score - 96%)
>> Over 30 kitchens
(Resident satisfaction score - 96%)
As a locally based organisation, we’ve been able to
contract work to local companies and create local
employment opportunities. We’ve also donated some
planters to the Barnardo’s Children’s Centre (Sure Start)
just around the corner from our old site office, and are
currently working with the local primary school on another
community benefit project.


GREEN SPACE:
Our time at Vilberie Close has now come
to an end; we were renting a Taunton
Deane Borough Council owned flat for
use as a ‘site office’ whilst we were
working in the area. As we didn’t have a
traditional site set up, we were using the
green space opposite the property as the
location for our containers. The use of the
containers enabled us to store materials
for the project locally, minimising CO2
emissions and reducing time delays that
can be caused to residents through ‘just
in time’ delivery of materials.
As we have moved, we are reinstating the
green space so it looks as good as when
we first arrived; we have kept the fencing
up around the area to protect it whilst
it is being restored. We have chosen to
lay new turf to the area instead of purely
sowing grass seed in the hope that it will
reinstate the area more quickly. As the turf
we are laying is delicate we have chosen
to keep the fencing in place so it is not
disturbed whilst the turf is ‘taking’ to its
new location. We have also sown some
grass seed to the area to ensure there is
appropriate coverage. We are really keen
to get the green space back to its former
glory as quickly as possible so people are
able to enjoy it once the warmer weather
sets in.

reinstatement of the land at Vilberie, and
appreciate your continued patience whilst
we carry out the necessary work.

