January flew by so fast, as your busy preschoolers enthusiastically learned all
about lights and shadows. The students made their own puppets, painted on
various mediums like aluminum foil and transparencies, had their silhouette portraits done, and they
took light portraits (Thanks to Olga, Adele’s mom from the 4s). Special thanks to Jill, for helping with
the shadow and seed project, and Aksel’s grandpa, Keith for being our handyman.
Our garden is growing day by day, and the children’s seed saving experiment has been a partial
success! We have cantaloupe seedlings, pumpkin seedlings, and corn growing! Jaclyn, from Little Green
Thumbs, will be visiting the 4s class in early February to enrich their gardening experience with fun
activities and games. We love to water the plants every day and the children are excited about caring
for them.
The 3s class will be going to Stella Snow Queen play, a reminder to the parents who requested a ticket
to please bring in $15 by February 11th. Thank you to those who have already done so.
One of the most exciting things that February brings us is looking after Miss Ryder’s pet guinea pig,
Simon. He is a gentle little guy who loves socializing, carrots, and lettuce. The kids LOVE him already!
We want to make sure that there is interest from the kids before we buy a class pet of our own. We will
have a field trip for the 4s to Pisces Exotic Pet Store to choose a guinea pig for the class.
The milk jug igloo project has begun! However, we still need more jugs. Please continue to save and
rinse out your 4 liter milk jugs and bring them in throughout the first two weeks of February.
We are beginning a pre-literacy friendship project this month. We will be introducing letters and
writing to the children, encouraging them to write their own names and the names of their friends as
they make friendship cards for each other. We have our very own mailboxes and the students in the
past have loved checking their mail each day. For Valentine’s Day, we encourage the students to write
the names on the cards themselves, and remember that homemade cards are always more
meaningful! You can bring in Valentines on

Spolumbo’s Fundraiser
The Spolumbo’s sausage fundraiser has begun! Yummy!!!! Spolumbo’s sausages are well loved by
many Calgarians so don’t forget to invite your family and friends to indulge and fill their freezers!
There are 11 delicious varieties of sausages and patties to choose from. An e-mail was sent out
recently with the instructions and order forms. If you have questions about this fundraiser, please feel
free to contact Lia Wright at [email protected]. All orders are due by February 20, 2015. Thank
you in advance for supporting the school!
Message about Clean Up Days
There are two clean up days left before the end of the year. The dates are: March 12, 2015 (6:30-9:30
pm) & June 18, 2015 (9:00-12:00 am). If you have not participated and have not signed up for one of
these dates, please e-mail Dean Libby at [email protected] to let him know which day you would
be available to help out. Thank you!
Registration for 2014-15 year
Registration for the upcoming year opens to the public on Thursday, February 5 from 1-2:30pm. In
addition to our current morning classes, a 3-5 year old afternoon class will be offered on Tuesdays &
Thursdays from 1:15-3:45pm. Spread the word to your friends and neighbours!
