Saved for Last…
When I survey
the wondrous cross…
on which the Prince of Glory died, my richest
gain I count but loss and pour contempt on all
my pride.
What do YOU think? We often save the best for last. We understand
the last… is the most lasting.
Some things are just so important, so near the heart, we lift them
even when we can barely lift our heads much less our voices.
 
Matthew, Mark, Luke and John thought last words were important,
too. Especially Jesus’ last words. They gave them to us, each in their
own way.
 
What words did Jesus save ‘til the last,‘til the cross? Says tradition …
 (To the soldiers, accusers, scoffers, us) “Father, forgive them.
They don’t know…”
 (To the thief) “Today. With me. In Paradise.”(To John, To Mary)
“Behold your mother. Behold your son.”
 (To Heaven) “My God, why have you forsaken?”
 (To the his tormenters) “I thirst.”
 (To God) “It is finished. …Into your hands.”
 
For Jesus, then, last and most lasting, very most important… forgive
the unforgivable, even before they ask (though it pleases Heaven
when we ask)…restore the most lost to the Most Loving God… that
would be Paradise indeed. Care for the most cut-to-the-heart… give
voice to most unspeakable pain so as to express the most
inexpressible hope. Reveal utter humanity. Submit utterly… trust
wholly… close your eyes… glimpse eternity.
What Jesus saved for last: the best!
Keep a Holy Lent…

Lord, you sent your Son to suffer death upon the cross for my redemption. And
not for my sins only, but all the world’s. Grant that I may share, in ample portion,
in his obedience. Then may I share in his glorious resurrection and ever live with you.

SILK FLOWERS
ALTERNATIVE GIVING
SILK FLOWERS
will decorate the sanctuary for our Easter morning services. We are offering quality silk
Tulips and Lilies at a cost of $12 each. Flower orders with payment are due by March 22. Flowers may be
picked-up following the 10:00am service or remain in the altar area as a donation to the church.
As an “ALTERNATIVE GIFT,” we suggest a monetary gift in support of Carroll County Food Sunday or
World Vision’s 30 Hour Famine. Alternative gifts with payment are due by March 22. Alternative giving
serves as a way of celebrating the resurrection of Jesus. Your gift will be published on Easter Sunday.
CARROLL COUNTY FOOD SUNDAY
Carroll County Food Sunday is our local food bank. CCFS distributes a weekly, nutritionally balanced grocery
package that is predicated on household size and is meant to last 3-4 days. It includes meat, eggs, fruits,
vegetables, breads and milk. More than 94% of every dollar donated buys groceries. $100 buys meat for one
day of service at Food Sunday. $48 buys weekly food for a family of four. Anyone who is hungry and resides
in Carroll County is eligible to receive food at CCFS. Over 400 families a week are served at their
Westminster, Eldersburg and Taneytown locations. Carroll County Food Sunday is funded by community fund
-raisers (such as our Alternative Giving) and direct mail solicitation of county residents.
30 HOUR FAMINE
Believing the best way to overcome hunger is to equip people with the tools they need to put food on their own
tables year-round, World Vision works in communities for a dozen years or more, helping them craft their own
solutions to poverty. For more than 20 years, we've been doing the 30 Hour Famine with church youth like
yours -- youth whose efforts are helping to overcome hunger around the world. Since the Famine started in
1992, the total number of kids under age 5 who die each day -- most of them from preventable causes like
hunger, poverty, and disease -- has fallen from34,000 to 22,000. $30 feeds a child for a month. Please
contribute as you are able.
Every year, Alan Shawn Feinstein, a Rhode Island philanthropist, gives away $1 million nationwide to
organizations that help fight hunger. By increasing our share of Mr. Feinstein’s $1 million giveaway,
your alternative gifts for CCFS & 30 Hour Famine will also benefit WUMC’s soup kitchen ministry.

The experience is one that is different each time I attend.
The 2014 Women's Retreat was healing and restorative, but also full of laughter,
friends, and fellowship.
Very inspirational weekend, really good time to open up and feel closer to God.

The UMW would like to thank all who
participated in our fundraisers this past
year. We raised $7,879 and donated this
money to Carroll County Food Sunday, Cold
Weather Shelter, Crossroads Christian
Preschool, The Least of These Ministries, a
local church family, the Pastors Discretionary
Fund, The Safe House in Westminster, Access
Carroll, Rescue Mission, Elliot Hirtle for his
Rain Barrel boy Scout Project for the Church
Garden, Neighbors in Need, Loaves and
Fishes Soup Kitchen and four missionaries we
support. In addition we collected $3,730
which was sent to the Baltimore Conference
for their Mission Work.
Thanks to all who donated
UPC codes from
Campbell's products in
2014. The UMW collected
and sent 975 UPC codes in
May to the Board of Child
Care. Every year they are
given to the Strawbridge
School in Baltimore to
purchase items needed for the
children who attend. This past year
they redeemed Campbell's labels for
microscopes and ipads for the high
school, a sand and water play table
for the day care center along with
musical and recreational
equipment. Please continue to
place Campbell product labels or
UPC codes in the glass jar in the
Narthex or the container by the
mailboxes. You may go to the
website- labelsforeducation.com- to
see all the products which qualify in
this program.
2014 was a very successful year and we are
truly blessed to have
such a caring and loving
church community.

Opportunities in our Ministries
Please consider joining the
WUMC Prayer Circle!
Blood
Drive
We are a small group of people that use the
power of prayer to help with concerns for
those around us. Prayers are shared
confidentially via phone calls so no need to
travel. For more information or to join the
prayer circle, call leader, Cathy Hartman, at
410-871-9087.
Coordinator
After many years of volunteering to coordinate
and help at our church blood drive, Dot White will
be following other paths in our church.
Historically, we have held two blood drives each
year. Dot will be happy to share the details of how
our blood drive works (and she would still like to
help on the day of the blood drive).
Give Dot a call at 410-346-7646 for more info on
this twice-a-year ministry opportunity!
Next Blood Drive is coming up, April 7
Do you

MOPPETS program. This program is offered at our day group. No need
to commit ~ come once, try us out ~ serve on a rotational basis that
fits your schedule. If you're interested in being involved in this ministry
please contact Diana Fritz at 410-871-4074 or [email protected].

I thank God for you as you
give unselfishly to God’s work
at the Detention Center. I
have said this so many times
but you are truly making a difference for the
Kingdom of God. I see God using all of us in many
different ways as we strive to see men and women
transformed into new creations for Christ.
I am excited about the two additions to our ministry
this year. One being a Women’s Chaplain and the
other a faith-based Re-entry Ministry. Lord willing,
we will continue to work hard and press on in the
Lord’s work.
Thank you from a very grateful Chaplain heart. May
the Lord’s richest blessings be upon you this new
year.
