2016 AHUREI
Update March 2016
Te Komiti Iti
E rua wiki e toe ana...
“Te Hui
We are days away from our Tūhoe Ahurei in Rūātoki and all
coordinators are working tirelessly to ensure your Tūhoe Ahurei is a
successful event. Our marae-hapū in the whārua are checking
mattresses, linen and doing working bees in preparation for the
return of Tūhoe whānui to the rohe to celebrate our Tūhoetana. For
many our Ahurei is a time to connect, to spend time amongst the
Iwi and on our whenua. No reira nau mai, hoki mai rā ki te
haukāina.

Kaumātua
Activities
Coordinators Tracy and
Rangimārie Mariu have
some tips for whānau
of our pākeke and
tamariki.
Whānau are asked to
check in regularly with
our pakeke to support
them at mealtimes, for
medication, and or
wharepaku trips. Meals
and refreshments will
be provided for our
pakeke aged 65 years
and older while onsite.
An
area
is
also
reserved for parents of
babies 0—2 years age,
for
feeding
and
changing babies.
A team of hosts will be
on hand to advise
whānau and help with
the refreshments.
Looking after our rāpihi
Tūhoe whānui will notice a change with the adoption of the
Para-Kore waste management approach at this year’s Ahurei.
The kaupapa is about reducing, recycling, re-using and
composting our waste. Volunteers are being called for from
kapa and marae-hapū volunteers. Call Te Komiti o Runga to
volunteer for this team on 07 3129 138. Jackie Te Kurapa
will be coordinating the Para Kore effort.
Your wellbeing at the Ahurei
Coordinator, Angel Davis,
has confirmed availability of
health practitioners and
emergency services to be
on hand for the duration of
the Ahurei. Whānau are
being reminded to bring with
them their medications and
or notify Angel of serious
health concerns of our
pakeke in attendance.
The volunteers of nurses, doctors and midwives will have a
caravan where they can be easily found.
Tickets
Thanks to Vodafone, for the first time our gates will offer EFTPOS
payment facilities for the purchase of Ahurei tickets.
