Event Filling Up Fast
Premier Networking and Cable TV
Trends Focus of Third Western
Wayne Leadership Banquet
An evening of influential networking and collaborating with political
and business leaders from communities along the I-275 corridor returns
Tuesday, Oct. 6.
The third annual Western Wayne Business Leadership Banquet, presented by Bank of America and Comcast Cable, returns to Ford Motor
Company Conference and Event Center in Dearborn. Corporate table
sponsorships and individual seats remain available.
“This event not only provides valuable information, it is also serves
as a catalyst for relationship building between business and political leaders,” said Tracey Schultz-Kobylarz, Redford Township’s supervisor and
chair for the Conference of Western Wayne Board. “As a result of events
like this, we are able to work together, blend geographical lines and put
our best collective proposals forward for the betterment of the region.”
The Conference of Western Wayne, a municipal advocacy organization serving the region’s 18 cities and townships, teams with local chambers of commerce to coordinate this program designed to build stronger
municipal-business relationships in a region that represents 700,000 residents and more than 54 percent of Wayne County’s tax base.
The Banquet emcee will be Mary Kramer, the publisher of Crain’s
Detroit Business, and the keynote speaker will be Tim Collins, Comcast
Cable’s regional senior vice president, who will discuss how new market
forces and technology are impacting cable television and Internet service.
“It is an outstanding opportunity to network with decision makers in
our region,” said Dan West, a lead event planner and president of the
Livonia Chamber of Commerce. “Like Oakland County and downtown
Detroit, we also have a great economic development region here in Western Wayne. This event aims to bring attention to that.”
The program is scheduled to feature the appearance of the city mayors
from Belleville, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Garden City, Inkster, Livonia, Northville, Plymouth, Romulus, Wayne and Westland; and the township supervisors from Canton, Huron, Northville, Plymouth, Redford,
Sumpter, and Van Buren.
For more information on the banquet and to register, contact the Westland Chamber of Commerce at 734. 326. 7222.

By Westland Mayor
William R. Wild
Dear Chamber Member,
Summer is winding to an end so I would like to take this last opportunity to
remind you that Thursdays are Farmers & Artisans Market days and your opportunity to support local farmers and crafters through purchasing farm to table
fresh produce and baked goods, and handcrafted items. The Market runs from
3 – 7 p.m. at Central City Park. Farmers & Artisans Market will close for the
season on Thursday, October 8.
It’s also not too late to enjoy a round at the Westland Municipal Golf Course
and what better day to do so than Monday Madness when golfers, from noon
to 5 p.m., can play 9 holes of golf with a cart, and have a hot dog, chips and
soda all for $20 ($15 for seniors)!
I’m pleased to report the Fire Department was awarded a $2.3 million FEMA
SAFER grant that will permit the City to hire additional professional firefighters
for a period of two years. The City has also been nominated for a Michigan
Municipal League 2015 Community Excellence “Strength in Structure” Award
for our retrofit of a former big box retail facility into our new City Hall!
On September 8, I will host my monthly Mornings with the Mayor at City
Hall beginning at 9 a.m. If you know of any residents or business owners who
have ideas for improving City services or have a concern about anything occurring within the City, please invite them to attend this event where the coffee
is hot and the discussion is always lively and relevant!
Last month, we celebrated the end of another wildly successful Wild About
Youth Works! summer employment program for our youth. I would like to publicly recognize the Westland businesses who participated in this program:
Boston Market, Cintas, Culver’s, Fifth Third Bank, G&E Architecture, Great
Lakes Trophy, Leslie Pool Supply, Little Caesar’s Pizza, Marquette House, McDonald’s, MJR Theatre, Mr. Mike’s, SportWay, Subway, Tim Horton’s, Wayne
Ford Civic League, WH Canon Landscaping and Williams Bayer. I am sincerely appreciative of your support; I hope your business was well served by
the youth you employed and I’m sure the experience you provided to them will
serve them for the rest of their lives.
I also hope you will consider joining me at City Hall at 6 p.m. on Tuesday,
September 22 when I deliver my 2015 State of the City address. As Michigan’s
tenth largest city, the past year has been one of remarkable achievement. At the
State of the City address, I will highlight the continued private sector investment
being made in our All American City and how the City’s finances continue to
improve. I will highlight the City’s recent projects from our new City Hall, to
the new Ralph Savini Fire Station, the long-needed renovations to the Police
Department and the opening of the Jefferson Barns Vitality Center. In addition,
I will share with you my ideas and plans for the coming year. Together, let’s
celebrate the high quality of life to which we have become accustomed in Westland!
In closing, and as always, remember to visit the City’s website www.cityofwestland.com and the City’s Facebook site for the latest on news, services
and events happening in our All American City!
