The Westland Chamber of Commerce is a member of the 5 Star
Business group; a joint effort between Dearborn Area, Redford,
Wayne and Westland Chambers to offer more opportunities to their

Star Business Group is that there is power in numbers. The goal of

partnership opportunities with individuals from other areas that you
would not meet otherwise.

Western Wayne’s Leaders and
Economist Sowerby Highlight
Business Leadership Banquet
A unique gathering of chief-elected
Conference of
officials and business leaders from Western Wayne
across 18 Western Wayne County communities will gather again this fall for an C
evening of networking and insights into WW
the region. The second annual Western
Wayne Business Leadership Banquet
will be held Thursday, Sept. 25, at the
Ford Motor Company Conference and Event Center in Dearborn.
The inaugural event last year drew good reviews from the 350 people
who attended.
“This event not only provides valuable information, it is also serves
as a catalyst for relationship building between business and political
leaders,” said Tracey Schultz-Kobylarz, Redford Township’s supervisor
and chair for the Conference of Western Wayne Board. “As a result of
events like this, we are able to work together, blend geographical lines
and put our best collective proposals forward for the betterment of the
region.”
The Conference of Western Wayne, an advocacy organization serving
the elected leaders of the region’s 18 cities and townships, is working
with a team of local chambers of commerce to coordinate this program
designed to build stronger municipal-business relationships in a region
that represents 700,000 residents and more than 54 percent of Wayne
County’s tax base.
The Banquet emcee will be Mary Kramer, the publisher of Crain’s
Detroit Business, and the keynote speaker will be renowned local economist David Sowerby, portfolio manager for Loomis, Sayles and Company in Bloomfield Hills. Sowerby will speak about economic and
business trends for Western Wayne County and metro Detroit.
“It is an example for regionalizing and showcasing our attributes, talents and efforts for the good of State, Western Wayne County, and of
course the local communities we each serve,” Kobylarz added.
The program is scheduled to feature the appearance of chief-elected
officials from the following municipalities: Cities of Belleville, Dearborn, Dearborn Heights, Garden City, Inkster, Livonia, Northville, Plymouth, Romulus, Wayne and Westland; Townships of Canton, Huron,
Northville, Plymouth, Redford, Sumpter, and Van Buren.
Corporate-table packages are now on sale. For details, contact the
Westland Chamber of Commerce by calling 734.326.7222, or e-mailing

By Westland Mayor
William R. Wild
Greetings!
I hope everyone had an enjoyable and safe Fourth of July holiday! The
City has been busy this month following the holiday, and I wanted to share
some highlights from around the community with you.
As some of you may know, the City of Westland launched a Compassionate City initiative early this year to help foster ore compassion and understanding in our community. I want to thank all of the restaurants,
Chamber members, and participants who were involved in the 9th Annual
Restaurant Rally earlier this month. The proceeds of that event helped support our Compassionate City campaign. Over 25 business sponsors and
restaurants participated!
And this month the City held its first “Challenge for Compassion” – a
day-long series of events to benefit some great local causes and charitable
organizations. I’m proud of residents’ and the business community’soutpouring of support for this movement. Westland is the first Compassionate
City in Michigan, and so far all of you have helped to make it a great success.
I also want to remind businesses that the Westland Farmer’s Market is
open for business every Thursday, 3 – 7 pm. Currently, the Market is held
in the City Hall parking lot of off Ford Road. But in August, it will be moving to its new home in Central City Park with the Grand Opening of a
brand new Farmer’s Market Building. If you know anyone who might be
interested in becoming a local vendor, give the Westland Chamber of Commerce a call at 734-326-7222.
I know summertime can be busy for businesses, but on Tuesday, August
5 Michigan communities will be holding their primary elections. Whether
you vote in Westland or in another municipality, at the polls or absentee, I
hope everyone takes the time to cast a ballot. This year, an important proposal – Proposal 1 – is on the ballot to eliminate the Personal Property Tax
(PPT) and replace it with revenue from an alternative tax. As many of you
know the PPT affects Michigan businesses. I, along with all the chief
elected officials of Western Wayne County (CWW) support Proposal 1. I
encourage all business owners do some research on the proposal and understand the effects the vote will have on local business – whether it passes
or not.
Last but not least, Westland’s All-American 2014 Blues, Brews, and
BBQ event is just around the corner – it will be held Friday, September 12
and Saturday, September 13. As you consider your sponsorship opportunities and outreach for 2014, we hope that your business can take part in
our City’s premier event. This fun-filled, two day music festival attracts
thousands of residents and visitors, and we want to make this year’s Blues,
Brews, and BBQ our best yet!
Be the first to learn about your City’s latest achievements and recognitions by visiting newly redesigned website at www.cityofwestland.com,liking us on Facebook and following us on Twitter. I want you to be proud of
your City, so stay informed, get involved and do your part to help us reach
our goal to make Westland one of Michigan’s “Most Livable Cities.”
Sincerely,

Patients enjoy the “lodge-like” casual beauty of our facility, designed with your
comfort in mind. Shown at right is our lobby and (below), our waiting room

Room where a black light adds to
the fun of getting your teeth
whitened!
What Our Patients are Saying...
No matter how much I brushed, I couldn’t get my teeth white enough. I tried
pastes, strips, and trays, but nothing gave me the results I wanted. en I tried
Zoom! Whitening. After only an hour, my smile looked amazing. I couldn’t believe how well Zoom! worked! My boyfriend says my new white smile makes
my face glow; my twin sister says she's jealous! -Sarah T.
I had my teeth capped for the first time in the early 1980’s. Back then I
thought my caps looked alright, but after 10 years I began to notice that my
smile didn’t look anything like what today’s technology could produce.
A coworker suggested I schedule a visit with Dr. Cohen. She was a new patient of his and guaranteed I would love him. She was right! I’ve always been
a wreck at the dentist, but Dr. Cohen’s gentleness and optimism were so reassuring that I wasn’t even afraid.
My treatment included root canals, gum surgery, permanent bridges, and a
dental cleaning. I opted for the Dream Dentistry and I never felt a thing–before, during, and after—what a concept! Dream Dentistry is definitely what
got me through the long appointments and extensive procedures.
It’s a great feeling to laugh and smile without trying to hide my teeth. I
used to be jealous of other people’s great smiles. Now I’ve got a great smile of
my own!
Maureen O.
I was unhappy with my smile, but never considered Cosmetic Dentistry before. It wasn’t until I met and talked with
Dr. Cohen that I even realized what Cosmetic Dentistry
could do for me.
I received caps and veneers and it was all very easy. I’m
definitely not self-conscious about smiling anymore and I
have a new outlook on life.
I’ve recommended Parkside Dental Team to all my friends
and family because I really trust the staff and the friendly attitude and family atmosphere are very comforting. -Tim W.
I used to worry a lot about my dental work. My partial didn’t fit very well and it moved around quite a bit. I was afraid
it would break or even fall out while I was eating or talking.
en I met Dr. Cohen. Dr. Cohen helped me overcome my
dental phobia and replaced my loose partial with a permanently cemented bridge. Now I don’t worry about my dental
work anymore and I’m no longer embarrassed to smile.
I’m very pleased with the care I received at Parkside Dental
Team. Dr. Cohen, Dr. Seir, and the entire staff were very caring and attentive to my needs and concerns. At Parkside
Dental Team, I never felt like I was just another patient; it
was more like I was visiting family. My wife is also a new patient at Parkside and we’ve recommended Parkside Dental
Team to all our friends and family. Parkside is the best!
