The Fight against Hunger Volunteering on Thanksgiving An organization, with the name of Second Harvest, is used to help provide food for the 35,000 individuals in need of provisions through-out San Joaquin and Stanislaus County. Many schools help, Second Harvest distribute out approximately 1 million pounds of food each month. Will you help to this cause? For every dollar you donate, the Second Harvest Food Bank is able to provide five dollars’ worth of food. However you do not necessarily need to donate money, food donations are always welcome. The organizations main vision is to, eliminate hunger within the communities we serve. How can you get involved? You can get involved by, donating money, give up some time to volunteer, or providing the program with some provisions. The deed is so little compared to the lives you will better. Thanksgiving is a day for being thankful for what you have. Some people are taking time out of their day to help give hot food for the homeless. Anybody can take about an hour out of their day and sever food to the people who don't get hot foods every day and being thankful for what they have and do. Here in Manteca California there is a place that you can be serving food for the homeless at 545 W. Sonora Street Stockton, California 95203 with St. Mary's dining room. Everybody should volunteer in a homeless shelter for Thanksgiving at least once. Be likeJeff Liotard and volunteer at a homeless shelter and don't just think about yourself, think about the other people in need of food. By: Dominic A. Microsoft 3E As you may or may not yet know, in January of this year each student of Brock Elliott will be receiving the Laptop/Tablet Hybrid that is the Microsoft 3E. This is an interesting piece of hardware considering that it is made specifically for education purposes. Unlike your typical tablet or laptop, the 3E has things such as a heat sensor and a microscope. While these features are interesting, I will say that the display is less than impressive, especially from Microsoft. It features a 10 inch LCD monitor with a resolution of 1366x768. In plain English, it is widescreen, but a very low quality display for its aspect ratio. The Microsoft 3E stands for three words. Embrace, Extend, and Extinguish. What Intel, Microsoft, and Panasonic mean by this is as follows. This is taken directly from an official website speaking about the 3E. 1. Embrace: Development of software substantially compatible with a competing product, or implementing a public standard. 2. Extend: Addition and promotion of features not supported by the competing product or part of the standard, creating interoperability problems for customers who try to use the 'simple' standard. 3. Extinguish: When extensions become a de facto standard because of their dominant market share, they marginalize competitors that do not or cannot support the new extensions. By: Randall H. Named the blobfish, after its strangely proportioned body shaped by its habitat. Then again there are many other divergences, for instance, the blobfish does not have a swim-bladder or as you may call it muscle. The skin of the blobfish allow it to transport its body around the oceans floor. This newly found animal was named the mascot for the Ugly Animal Preservation Society. This Blobfish beat out the earlier competitors for the ugliest animal such as the, kakapo, axolotl, long-nosed proboscis monkey, and the pig-nosed turtle. By: Miranda M. This Phone features voice control, finger print scanner, and ambient light sensor, which is new to this century of new and improved technology. Not to mention the size jump of four inches since the last updated iPhone, the IPhone 5s. Many say this change was needed, to help Apple contribute more sales through-out the U.S, however did Apple take it too far? Some buyers say the size is too overwhelming for them; liking the more compact iPhones that were made in the previous years. Apple however is liking the new change to their most selling product. How do you like the changes the Apple iPhone 6 has to offer? By: Miranda M. ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is Fineable in California due to the new Water Conservation Laws! The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge is now something of an internet sensation! BUT... due to California's new water conservation laws. These individuals actually believe that they can legally fine someone for participating in a charitable act! This has been argued in many places such as sites like Reddit and even had thousands of complaints towards the state, and yet they still refuse to refund the money. But the main problem with these fines, everyone in America uses this exact amount of water in a minute long shower! And according to George N. Kostyroko, the Ice Bucket Challenge "doesn't violate any of our regulations" Many people are saying that the Ice Bucket Challenge is one of the sole reasons for the California Drought. These people are not paying attention to the numbers. The average American uses approximately 100 gallons of water per day so what if five gallons are added to ONE day? Think about it, it adds a maximum of a twentieth of our average water usage. As you can clearly tell I am extremely biased as of the moment, but for good reasons. As you have read we use this amount of water in a minute shower, we double it washing dishes, and we drink this in just a few days. It is not a big deal and it is made out to be a huge one! In conclusion, act now. These people need to stop and think and as do you. If we use only five extra gallons of water once, does it truly add up to much? By: Randall H. Mrs. Gaston: In Social Studies they are working on notes about "The Declaration of Independence". In Language arts, they are reading about The Tell-Tale Heart by Edgar Allen Poe. What’s Going On?
