NEWS RELEASE
From:
Zan Picchioni, Administrative Assistant
Date:

Re:
CASA Spring 2013 Training Announcement
at the CASA Office
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
VOLUNTEERS NEEDED TO FIGHT CHILD ABUSE
AND NEGLECT IN WINNEBAGO COUNTY
Rockford, IL – I am for the child. Be a CASA volunteer. Winnebago County Court
Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) will hold Spring Training beginning April 2013.
A commitment of 1-1/2 years to 2 years is required following training in order to keep
consistency in the lives of the children with whom you’ll be working. Volunteers must
be 21 years of age with a high school diploma or GED. A criminal background check
will also be done.
CASA represents children who have been abused and neglected, advocating for their best
interests in Juvenile Abuse & Neglect Court, with the goal of finding a safe, permanent
home for every child. A child in Winnebago County needs you to advocate for them in
court, needs you to listen to them, needs you to hear them. Over 1,500 cases come in to
Juvenile Abuse & Neglect Court each year, and our CASA volunteers are currently
advocating for 262 cases. Please give consideration to becoming a CASA.
Many of our CASAs who advocate for CASA children work full time. If you are
interested in becoming a volunteer, or have questions about the program, call the CASA
office at 815-319-6880 and view our website, www.winnebagocountycasa.org.

What to do with that used toner cartridge?
Inkjet and laser toner cartridges are being collected for recycling. All proceeds
go to the Winnebago County Animal Services Auxiliary. Please send cartridges to
Melissa Kotrba at the Sheriff’s Administration Office (319-6000) or to Winnebago
County Animal Services. So far this year, the recycling program has raised $77.00
and kept as many cartridges out of our landfill. Thank you to everyone who has
participated in this effort. (Note: No Cartridge World cartridges please. They are
not accepted by the recycling company.)
