THE ARCHANGEL WORTHINGTON, OHIO October 11, 2015 – 28th Sunday in Ordinary Time “It is easier for a camel to pass through the eye of a needle than for one who is rich to enter the kingdom of God.” (Mark 10:25) Jesus uses tough language that we may not want to hear. But, we are all called to be generous with all our gifts. Not just the ones we pick and choose, but all our gifts: our time in prayer to God, our talent in participating in parish ministries and our treasure supporting our local parish and other charities. Focus on the Mission “…the mission of Christ – Priest, Prophet-Teacher, King – continues in the Church. Everyone, the whole people of God, shares in this threefold mission.” – Pope Saint John Paul II, from his first Homily as Holy Father SAINT MICHAEL INFORMATION CENTER NEW MEMBERS Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community and a commitment to the life of the parish family. You can register by stopping by the Parish Office after Sunday Mass or calling the office at 614-885-7814. You may also email us at [email protected] and request a New Family Registration Form. SAINT MICHAEL PARISH PHOTO DIRECTORY Help us to create a great St. Michael photo directory as we approach our Parish’s 70th Anniversary! This complimentary softcover book will provide a great way to connect names and faces for your fellow parishioners. Sign up your family now for a photo session to take place in November. You will receive the free directory, a free 8 x 10 photo, and have the opportunity to purchase other portraits (many discounts offered!). There are numerous weekday and Saturday sessions open for getting your picture taken. You can sign up online at https://www.securedata-trans14.com/ap/stmichaelcatholicchurch5/index.php?page=10. Please allow 45-60 minutes for your session, which includes choosing your favorite photo from the on-site computer. Pick your session soon before the time slots are booked. A link will be put on the Saint Michael website and Facebook page very soon. Sign-ups will also be accepted at the Stewardship Fair and in Marian Hall after most Masses in October. Ways to Volunteer: Please consider volunteering to help make the photography sessions for our 2015/2016 Parish Directory a success! Each time commitment would be two to three hours on most days, November 3-28. If you could fill in one or more of the time slots, that would be great! We need volunteers to sign people in when they arrive for their portrait session and update their contact information. As a bonus, you will receive a discount off of your portrait purchase! Please contact Martha Bogue a [email protected] or 614-312-3226 if you would be available. Or if you would like to access the sign-up directly, please use the following website: http://www.signupgenius.com/go/4090b4ba5af2ca31-stmichael1. Thanks so much! Around the Parish VOLUNTEERS NEEDED – CAN YOU HELP? Children’s Liturgy of the Word is a special part of the 10:30 a.m. Mass. Children in Grades K-3rd are invited to hear the Word of God in a manner especially prepared for children. We begin with prayer, followed by readings and reflection. It is a wonderful opportunity for children to learn about the wonder of God’s Word. This very important ministry is in need of leaders and assistants. We have just three and are in the need of eight total. It’s not a big commitment and it’s a great way to get involved in your parish. If you have any questions, or if you’d like to help out, either as a leader or as an assistant, please contact Kim Griffiths at 614-377-9274 or [email protected]. LIVEWIRES Tuesday, October 13th – Social Gathering 12:00 noon – Marian Hall Bring Sandwich; drink and dessert provided. Activity to be determined. BIBLE STUDY FOR MOMS OF YOUNG CHILDREN 1st & 3rd Wednesdays, 9:30-11:00 a.m., St. Michael Meeting Room Are you a mother of young children looking to deepen your spiritual life, grow in your knowledge of the Catholic faith, and develop community with other moms at the parish? A kid-friendly moms’ group is coming this fall! Young children are welcome and will be present during the study. Contact Eva DeCenzo at [email protected]. No materials needed! SAINT VINCENT DE PAUL COAT DRIVE/FOOD PANTRY SVdP will be conducting their annual Winter Coat Drive and is asking for help in obtaining coats and clothing to provide to Worthington area students and families in need for the coming winter season. We provided 390 coats in 2014 to Worthington students and families through “Sponsor-A-Family” program and subsequent school requests. In addition, we were able to give 230 more coats to other community students and families. In addition to children’s and adult coats – hats, gloves, scarves and boots are also needed. These clothing items will be issued early November so please donate your items no later than October 30th. Place the donated items in the clothing chute into the room on the East side of St. Michael School. Thank you in advance for your thoughtfulness and generosity. Many Worthington students and families will have a much warmer winter with your help. Food Pantry – The Food Pantry is in need of tuna. Thank you for all your support! Around the Parish BETHLEHEM CHRISTIAN FAMILIES HANDCRAFTED ITEMS After All Masses on Saturday and Sunday, November 28-29, 2015, we will have a special opportunity to view products and creations in wood created by the hands of Christian artisans in and around the Holy Land region. The Rishmawi Family has been designated as the representative for these wonderful Christian artisans and has been authorized to show their olive wood carvings. The tradition of Olive wood carvings in the Holy Land has been handed down from father to son since the 12th Century. Due to the difficulties the last few years in the Middle East, tourism has been dramatically reduced and these folks have suffered greatly. This is causing the Christian community to immigrate to different countries leaving the Christian population at 2% today from 25% ten years ago. We invite you to visit their display tables and view some of the finest handcrafts available from the Holy Land. This Family strives to bring these fine carvings to our church. You can view these beautiful items online at http://www.bethlehem-art.com/. “We call on our churches worldwide to recognize that the very presence of the Christian communities in the Holy Land is threatened by the severity of the present conflict and by the economic devastation the conflict has caused. When the Mother Church is endangered, the entire Churches must be involved.” THAT MAN IS YOU!
