11NOV Friday 11th November 2011 The Llaüt Journal "A pessimist sees the difficulty in every opportunity; an optimist sees the opportunity in every difficulty." Winston Churchill Nº 3 HALLOWEEN AT LLAÜT Students from 3rd of ESO at CaixaForum Museum in Palma. LEARNING MORE ABOUT NUMBERS Halloween invaded Llaüt with tons of skeletons, pumpkins, monsters and witches made by our primary students. Everyone worked really hard to decorate the corridors of the school. As you know Halloween is an annual holiday which is very popular in the United Kingdom and North America. It's celebrated on October 31 and includes activities such as trick-or-treating, attending costume parties, telling scary stories and watching horror films. Happy Halloween everyone! IT’S ELECTRIFYING! Students from 3rd of ESO visited the CaixaForum Museum last Friday. They had the chance to experiment with different kinds of electricity. See the rest of the photos on our school web site. Don Emilio made their hair stand up on end! Students in year two have been working with abacus to learn more about units, tens and hundreds. They are finding out how to compose and decompose large numbers and will soon become “human calculators”. Each student made his own abacus. They had great fun. Llaüt School at Parc Bit. I went to watch a Monster truck show. It was great because there were Monster trucks and normal cars. The Monster Trucks crashed small cars. This wasn’t the most exciting thing that happed. There was a micro show where some cars collided and exploded. I would like to go again because it was simply amazing. The moon is the only way out By Lorenzo Jaume In France there is an impressive castle. My family and I went there two years ago. It’s on “Mont Sant Michel”. It’s a very big castle, and there is no way out except through the sea. There is a quicksand around the castle. There is only one entrance and one exit. There is a small village inside the Why not buy another a book if you are already late? By Javier Peñarrubia Flores In this section I’m going to tell you about something quite funny that happened to me in a trip to London I did with my family. I was with my dad, who is a fanatic about Romans and all their empire, and my brother too. My mother was doing some shopping. After that we were supposed to go to the theatre to see the “Lion King”. We went to a bookshop to buy some books about romans. The bookshop was quite big and there were a lot of people. There was a bunch of weirdoes there wearing strange piercings like a straw or with a pen in their ears or a paper clip. Then we went to have a look at the books. There were thousands of books there but we couldn’t find any that my dad liked. We asked the assistant and she got us some books to look at. We looked at them while I kept telling my father that we had to go to the theatre. At last he realized that we were nearly late. We ran out of the bookshop and then he realized he didn’t know the way. Then we saw a woman and we asked her which the way was. She was very friendly and went with us to show us the way. At last we reached the theatre and thanked the woman. My mother was waiting for us at the entrance. Then we went inside to see the show. It was fantastic. It was like the film lion king but with people. They did acrobatics, jumps and the decoration was great. When we finished we told our mum what had happened and she laughed a lot. Lost in the snow by Gabi Borda When I went skiing with my family in the Alps my brother and I crashed into a gipsy and later his son insulted and shouted at us. castle. There is a wall around the castle to protect the village and the castle. High tide or low tide makes it possible to access the castle and to leave it. It is impressive. My dad, mum and sister were not there. I couldn’t find any Spanish people. When I finally found this family I asked if I could please call my dad. When my dad answered the phone we were very afraid because the ski station was very big. The family met with my dad at the The Llaüt Journal Friday 11th November 2011 CARREFOUR fifteen minutes later. My dad appeared and we went for lunch with him. We went to a “pisto restaurant” which was just beside the slope. By Álvaro Borda bed until the next day. In a day with the school I do all at the same hours but not the same things. When we return form skiing with the school we watch a movie, have dinner and go to bed. I like skiing a lot .It’s a very fast sport and it is amazing. I also like going to ski because it is a fantastic time to be with my family doing sports and travelling to discover different countries. I have gone skiing a lot of times with my family. My first time was when I was only six years old. A limousine in Palma My experience in the snow by Carlos Collado One day a limousine stopped beside my car. The limousine was black and long, the glass was tinted and the chauffeur hanged his arm out the window. I would have loved to have a camera but I didn’t. We went to La Pinilla and then I went to Sierra Nevada, Formigal, Flims near Zurich (Switzerland) Flaine and Avoriaz near Geneva (Switzerland) and to la Molina twice with the school in year 5 and also in year 6. I like skiing with my family and with my school mates. In a MY FRIEND TONI PRATS BY GUILLLE AMORÓS He plays for Mallorca. He left Betis in 2005 and he has been in Mallorca since 2008. He works in the “scouting Mallorca” now. Bumping into Nadal By Pedro Chouciño normal day with my family I get up at 8:00 and I have breakfast. I get dressed with my ski clothes and at the 9:00 we go to the ski class. At 12:00 I finish ski class and I ski to the restaurant to have lunch. When I finish I go to skiing for about 3 hours. I return to the hotel at about 5:00. At the hotel there are a lot of facilities like swimming pool, spa and activities for kids. After that we have dinner and go to Two years ago when I was going on a trip with Alfabia to Barcelona I met Rafa Nadal. I saw him at Palma's airport. He was with his coach, his uncle Tony Nadal. We quickly ran towards him. We were very nervous and really excited. We said hello to him and to his uncle and talked a little with them. We asked them for an autograph and a picture, and he accepted. Our mothers took the photograph and we got the autograph. We didn’t get much time because he had to catch a plane to a tournament. That surprise was one of the best things of the trip. We were so lucky! He is one of the most famous people I had seen in my life and I think surely there won’t be another time, but anything can happen. I am asking myself about why people get nervous when they meet famous people, and I The Llaüt Journal Friday 11th November 2011 think it is because you want to be friendly to famous people and in these occasions we do not know what we want to say. That is what, I think happens to us in these so called “important moments”. Also because you will see these people at most once in your lifetime and you only have one opportunity. NEED FOR SPEED by Jaime Avilés The first time that I drove a car, I went to the carts with my brother and my uncle. I thought that I went very fast but I drove very slowly. My experience when I drove the carts was incredible. I went to the carts in Asturias. I went when I was little. I came last, because it was my first time that I drove a cart. sledge. We ate a typical food from Finland, and we rode on a sledge, and we went back with the snow motorbike. Day number 2: We woke up and we had breakfast, and we took a taxi to go to a village where people say, that Santa Claus lives. That village was breathtaking, and there were ice slides. We slided down them all day. Day number 3: We went to a husky farm, and they gave us a walk of two hours. The dogs brought us though the forest and everything was white. The other days I went to see the city, and the last day, I went to have dinner in an igloo. We had tomato soap, and meat. Everything was very nice, but I was very sad, because it was my last day in Finland. Next day we woke up very early. We went to the airport, and we said goodbye to the country. BORN TO BE A BEACH BOY By Mario Darder SNOW, SNOW, AND SOME MORE SNOW By Miguel Martín-Calpena Six years ago, when I was 7, I went to Finland. First, I went to Barcelona, and there we waited for a long time for the flight to Helsinki. We decided to watch the Christmas lottery. The flight was boring. It was about three hours long, and it was at night so I was especially tired. When we arrived to Helsinki, the airport was completely white, but we had to take another plane of one hour to Rovaniemi. We arrived very well, but when we got out of the airport everything was covered in snow. I had never seen so much snow before. It was awesome, and I don't think that I'll see so much snow ever again. Then we took the bus to the hotel, we had dinner and went to sleep. The next day we had a hard day. First we went to a place to change our clothes. Then we took a snow motorbike, and we went to a reindeer farm. The farm was awesome. We gave food to the reindeers, and they gave us a walk with a All started when I listened to my favorite song “Surfing USA” of “ Beach Boys” by my favorite group. This song encouraged me to take on surfing at all beaches on Mallorca. I loved this sport since I was little. My first board was very little. It was maid for my. My first wave was great. It measured 1'90 meters. It had a lot of scum. My favorite wave measured 2'01 meters and it was very funny because was the perfect wave of the waves. I was surfing this wave with my second board. This photo is in Mallorca in Son serra de Mrina The Llaüt Journal Friday 11th November 2011 Waking up after wakeboarding By Toni García At first I didn't know what had happened but later my brother told me. This is a true story. Last summer I wanted to try a sport called wakeboard or “wake”, so I asked my father and he said “ok”. My first class was really exciting and I learnt to go inside the wave of the boat. I was very happy with what I did. Then, the next day they taught me how to go outside the wave of the boat and I started to jump, so I tried to do it. The first time was a success but when I tried to do it again I lost control of the board and I fell. I crashed against the water. A few minutes later I got inside the boat and I started to lose my memory. I felt confused and I didn't know what was happening around me. My mum took me to the hospital and I got inside a scanner. Then the doctor said that I needed to stay in the hospital for three days. Driving a Carver 1 One day I was in Seville, at my grandparents’ house, when my mother arrived with an old friend called Diego, but he didn’t come with a car or a motorbike, he had a strange vehicle. I saw it and later I supposed that it was a carver! Diego asked me to get in, and I jumped into it. I was a bite nervous but it was really comfortable. It had another amazing thing: when you turn, the carver tilts to this side! When Diego stopped, a lot of tourists took photos because it is very strange. It was a really interesting experience, and I want to repeat it. SPACE MOUNTAIN By Javier Orta by Juan Mas The Carver is a strange vehicle, a hybrid between a car and a motorbike. It's a very expensive vehicle and there are only three in Spain because it is very exclusive. It has three wheels, two at the back and one in the front. This vehicle is very fast, it can go at about 210 km/h. There are two space mountains in the world: one in Orlando and one in Paris. I rode on the one in Paris. The mountain is very big and The Llaüt Journal Friday 11th November 2011 long. When you go into it, it’s as if you were in space. It’s incredible. Minim four people can go in every wagon. It takes about five minutes. They take a photo of you during the ride. I recommended to ride on the mountain. Amazing travel to Warner Bros By Miguel Martín-Calpena This summer, I went to Madrid. There, I went to the theme park called Warner Bros. It was great fun. The park has the biggest children zone in the world. The park has many roller coasters. It has an amazing free fall, and many more attractions. I first went to the children zone, and it is very boring. Afterwards, I went to the other zone, and I liked it very much. My favorite attractions are the roller coasters. I think that the best one is the “Superman roller coaster”. The other roller coasters are: The yellow one called Batman, the blue one, and a wooden one. There are many more attractions like the horror chamber, Lex Lutor's attraction and “Splash”. I think that the only thing that I didn't like at the park were the restaurants. The food was bad, slow, and expensive. If anybody goes, I don't recommend any of the restaurants at the park. PORT AVENTURA During Halloween time there are a lot of monsters walking around the streets frightening people. If you like Port Aventura you can also stay there because there are hotels there. Port Aventura is a good place for children and for adults Meeting Villa By Salvador Beltrán Martorell In 2009 I went to Park Astur with my friends to see David Villa. He was there because it was the Park’s anniversary. When I arrived at the Park at 5:00, there were many people. These people had been there sense 8:00 in the morning. When I arrived, I got in line to see Villa and then he signed my t-shirt. I managed to get my Picture taken with him. Villa is not a tall person. There were a lot of Police at the park. It was quite an experience because we sneaked in. I don’t think I will ever meet David Villa again, so it was very exciting. By Mundo Fortuny Portaventura is a theme park. There are a lot of attractions for example: The “Dragon Khan”, Furios Bacus and many more. Port Aventura is divided in different places: China, Mediterranean, Far west, Polynesia and Mexico. Port Aventura is in Tarragona. Near Port Aventura there is a water park. It’s Halloween at Port Aventura this month. I went there this year. My favorite attraction was the terror tunnel. EDITING MOVIES FOR FILM FESTIVAL By Agustín Sans After Christmas, Llaüt starts preparing the Red Carpet Film Festival. First, second and third of ESO will film about ten movies. First of ESO are preparing an intriguing movie,. It’s Agata Christie style. Some of the students are the actors, but I´m editing movies for the film festival. The Llaüt Journal Friday 11th November 2011 Movies are filmed in front of a green curtain and my work is to put an image on it, or even an image that can move. The actors are wearing customs and they give life to the script. When it is filmed, I add the special effects and credits. Last Friday twenty first of October, all grades of ESO and baccalaureate, made a casting to choose who the actors were going to be for a movie filmed by Eduardo and Mark. Everyone had to act according to Eduadro and Marc’s instructions. I hope you will come to see it! MY EXPERIENCE ON A CRUISE by Alvaro de España Last summer, I went on a cruise in the Baltic Sea. The company was “Costa Cruceros” and I went on the “Costa Atlantica”. All the staff were Italian or from the Philippines. The personal had prepared a show for every day. There were also shows at night. The fact is that there was a disco where you could make a lot of new friends and that is what I did. We visited many places and the cruise lasted 8 days. A day before boarding the cruise, we flew to Barcelona and then again to Copenhagen. In Copenhagen we boarded the cruise ship and I was very excited the first day. The first day we went to Stockholm. It’s a fantastic city; this city is joined by bridges to fourteen islands. One of these islands has a theme park! The Llaüt Journal Friday 11th November 2011 MY FIRST TIME AT A FOOTBALL MATCH By Carlos Llompart My first time at a football match was in the Real Madrid's stadium called Santiago Bernabeu. I really liked the stadium and I enjoyed it, especially when I could see the football players. The pitch was nice and very big. When I went there the Real Madrid players were playing against Almeria. I liked it very much because the Real Madrid won 31 with goals by Higuain in minute 10, Cristiano Ronaldo in the minute 42, Piatti in the minute 56 and Xabi Alonoso in minute 82. I was excited because Real Madrid is my favorite team. Going to see Real Madrid play is impressive and seeing the players in the pitch was amazing because the players are very famous. It was an unforgettable. I think the Santiago Bernabeu is one of the best pitches in the world and that Real Madrid is the best team in the world. I liked going to see the Real Madrid and I want to go back again to see the players. Shark sightings in Barcelona Bay By Jaime Docampo Cardell When I went to Barcelona with my other school I visited Barcelona Aquarium. The Aquarium is enormous and it has a lot of aquatic creatures. There was a mouth of a real white shark at the entrance and people could take photos. First I saw giant clams and moray eels. The moray eels were enormous and very dangerous. Then I walked in glass tunnels and it was very interesting because the stars of the Aquarium, the ray fishes and the moon fishes were very near. The stars of the Aquarium were the sharks. You can swim with sharks if you pay money. There was starfish and seahorses too. Visitors could go to a cave with many kinds of jellyfishes. There was a fish tank with ray fishes. The ray fish tank has got a bridge and you could touch it, but it is very dangerous because ray fishes have a poisoned harpoon. In the end of the Aquarium there were two tanks: Penguins and seals. It is a very interesting Aquarium. THE FIRST TIME MY DAD TOOK ME INTO THE FOREST By Gonzalo Peñarrubia Before, when I was little, I wasn’t very interested in birds. When I grew up, until 9 or 10, something special was growing in my little head. Something that I had to discover by my own. Each time I went to the forest, I started realizing that hidden and quiet but fantastic world of the birds. My dad bought me lots of bird books and DVDs. I started studying them and taking photos of the most intelligent birds, the most exotic birds, and the smallest birds... I knew all type of songs and all types of birds... IT WAS A FANTASTY WORLD.... If my dad hadn’t taken me that normal day like the others, if my dad hadn’t shown that feelings and hadn’t made the effort to make me happy............ I would never have been so interested in the wonderful world of the birds....... THANKS DAD.......... The Llaüt Journal Friday 11th November 2011 MY FIRST FOOTBALL MATCH IN CAMP NOU By Gonzalo Abadía It was in the 2007. I went to the Camp Nou with my dad. The match was: Barça vs Español. It was awesome because Barça played really well but Español played a good match. Barça won the match 3-2. Barçca’s gouals were scored by: Eto'o, Messi and Messi another time and the goals of Español were scored by: Ivan de la peña and Ivan de la peña another time. This year Ivan de la Peña is retired but in 2007 he played football in the match in minute 87. The Español suportes sang this song: “De la peña nunca se peina un día se peino y al barça le metio dos” the people sang this song because Ivan de la Peña is bold. But in minute 92 Messi scored. The Camp Nou sang this other song: "messi, messi, messi". The match was awesome. Don Nacho Barcia insists on having barbeques every time we visit Lluc in the future. According to Barcia: “BBQs have been the best way to prepare food since the very beginning of mankind. We don’t need restaurants, just give me a sack of coal and a lighter and off we go”! The Llaüt Journal Friday 11th November 2011 PICTURES TAKEN BY OUR STUDENTS
