Saturday 22 August from 8am - 4pm Working bee #3 Saturday 5 October Family Photos RAINBOW DAY As part of our National Quality Frameworks where we support families and children in our community, we have held our second annual fundraiser, Rainbow Day. This year we have chosen to support our local community organisation Family Life (Sandringham). Family Life is an independent community organisation enabling children, young people and families to thrive in caring communities. Sunday 11 October The children and staff have had lots of fun with rainbow themed activities. We thank you for getting into the fun of the day by dressing your children in their brightest and happiest clothes and especially for your donation to Family Life. The Educators have discussed with your children why we have Rainbow Day and explained that there are many more children who are not as fortunate as they might be and why their donation might help a child out. All up we have raised a total of $142. WOOLWORTHS EARN & LEARN We have registered to participate in the Woolworths Earn and Learn promotion which starts on Wednesday 15th July. When anyone from our community shops at Woolworths they will get a sticker for every $10 that they spend. A collection box will be in the foyer for you to drop off your stickers. The more we collect the more educational resources and equipment we can chose for the Kindergarten. Over the past few years we have greatly benefitted from this program, for example, obtaining our fantastic science equipment. Newsletter prepared by Julianne Bull Email [email protected] for any contributions Page 2 June 2015 THANK YOU BENDIGO BANK It is with the generous support of community groups and business that we are able to continuously improve the facilities within our kindergarten. On behalf of our kindergarten we thank Bendigo Bank for the $5,000 grant which enabled us to complete our rock mound and creek bed zone - a microcosm of bushland, mostly indigenous to the Melbourne sand belt area. Specifically these funds were used for the mud digging patch which is located at the overflow end of the creek, a bridge which links a tiny island with a large rocky mound, and the hand pump which will send a small stream of water down the stoney creek bed that otherwise is dry. Native planting and narrow meandering paths have brought an intimacy and create a sense of exploration and discovery for the children as they play in this area. Action and strength are tested in the digging and climbing parts of this zone. FROM OUR EDUCATORS... AFTER SESSIONS PLAYS A reminder that the areas ’out of bounds’ during after session plays are; the new digging patch area and the dry river creek bed (as the soil, pebbles and water pump are being disturbed during these sessions), the shed, taps and hoses. MEDICAL CONDITIONS Please remember to let your child's educators know if your child has a change in any medical conditions. Sometimes the colder weather brings on changes. Also please keep your educators informed of new or different allergies. PIANO NEEDED If anyone has access to an unloved upright piano the kinder would be greatly appreciative. Please let Sue know if you can assist. CRAFT Thank you to those who have provided cardboard boxes for our collage. We are always on the look out for interesting bits and pieces for the children to work with. Please come and see us if you have something suitable. LUNCHES & SNACKS In our programs we educate the children about caring for the environment and sustainability. We recycle as much as we can with the children and use a compost bin. To support this philosophy we discourage the use of packaged food in children's snack boxes, and promote the use of small containers and lunchboxes with compartments to store the various food items. We encourage you to do this with your child's kinder lunchboxes. LOST PROPERTY We have a lot of lost property at the moment. Please ensure that clothing, lunch boxes and drink bottles are all labelled so that we can avoid things ending up in lost property. WORKING BEE The next working bee is on Saturday the 5th of October. Please contact Fiona Cozens at fionacozens@gmail if you are planning to attend and have not yet registered.
