ThinkWave Parent User Guide
Parent Guide to ThinkWave Bogaert’s International School Primary 2014-2015 Introduction ThinkWave is a new addition to the primary program at BIS, and it will be a very useful tool for teachers, parents, and even students! ThinkWave will help our school to improve its organization and its communication with parents. I. What will the teachers and staff do in this ThinkWave program? Teachers and staff will: Keep a current record of all assignments and grades (grades will be entered at least one time per week for every subject and every student); Keep a current record of student attendance; Keep a current record of student and parent contact information, including e-mail addresses; Store student class schedules (what time each student is learning each subject); Publish messages and announcements for the school for parents (field trips, school events, holidays, important assignments and projects, etc.); Create detailed unit grade reports (with teacher comments) that can be printed or directly e-mailed to parents. II. What can I (the parent) do in this program? Parents can: Access all messages for the school, and see important information about all school events; Access detailed information about upcoming and finished assignments in all classes; Access a detailed assignment list with individual grades and comments for each class; Access an overall grade for each student in every class. III. How do I get access to this program? Step 1: The staff will send you an e-mail inviting you to create an account on ThinkWave. The e-mail will have a direct link to the right spot! Step 2: Create your account. Just fill in the information you see on the screen. It will ask for an “access code.” There will be an access code in your email! IV. Once I have an account, how do I use it? Your ThinkWave account is very easy to use! When you log in, you will see your “Dashboard.” That is your home screen. You have a toolbar with four options: Dashboard: this is your homepage. It will show you recent assignments and messages from the school or teachers. Assignments: this is where you will find information on individual assignments for your student. Attendance: this is where you will find your student’s attendance record (absences, tardies, etc.). Grades: this is where you will find your student’s overall grade in each subject. THE DASHBOARD These are your Dashboard options. Overview will show you all recent assignments and all upcoming assignments for your student. All Messages will show you any messages from any teacher or the school. They are organized by subject. Important note: “All Posts” will show you every post at once, including school-wide messages. We will use these most often! Accounts will help you manage your account information. If you wish to change your e-mail address, change your password, etc., then go to this section. ASSIGNMENTS Select any subject for your student, and you will see all individual assignments for him or her! Also, you will see the score that the student received, and any comments from his or her teacher. ATTENDANCE At the primary level, students have their attendance taken twice per day. This program has certain requirements for attendance, so each student will have a certain subject for attendance taking. (Fill in a guide to attendance taking here…we will need to list the subjects for each grade level where attendance will be taken, but I will need a permanent schedule first!) GRADES Select any subject, and see your student’s overall grade in any subject. These grades are an average of all the assignment points that a student has earned for the unit. These grades will change each week! Important note: there will be comments for every overall grade at the end of each unit. But, you won’t see these comments until the last week of the unit.
