Advocate October 2015
Plowshares Advocate “That no one in our community go hungry…” October 2015 Vol. 32, No. 10 Volunteer Recognition Celebration!! On Saturday, October 10th Plowshares will honor our Volunteers at our annual Volunteer Recognition Celebration in the Plowshares Dining Room. Plowshares employs only six staff and in a year serves over 63,000 meals. This statistic points out what our Volunteers mean to us and what they do, which is EVERYTHING! In every stage of our operation from our Board to our garden, Volunteers are at work. Any attempt at expressing our gratitude is woefully inadequate. Yet each year we call our Volunteers together in an effort to do so. We know that one of the most enjoyable aspects of the event is that our Volunteers enjoy visiting with each other. Therefore we avoid long speeches or programs and allow time for simply visiting and chatting. When you put some of the nicest, most generous people in our community in the same room, people are bound to enjoy themselves and make new friends. Speaking of friends, we encourage Volunteers to bring a friend to our event. We, at Plowshares, believe that the more people know about us and understand what we do, the better will be our standing in the community and our ability to fulfill our Mission. We report to the IRS that our Volunteers save us approximately $223,000 each year. However we cannot put a dollar amount on Volunteer time, energy or talent. So, all Volunteers, join us for a simple lunch, catered by Bella Cibo on Saturday, October 10th at 12:00 PM. If for some reason you are a Volunteer and have not received an invitation in the mail, please check with us to make sure we have your current address in our files. To R.S.V.P. please call (707) 462-8582 or e-mail us at [email protected]. We are hoping that we can fill the Plowshares Dining Room on October 10th and celebrate the great gift that our Volunteers are to us! Beginning the week of September 22nd drivers for Meals on Wheels will attach magnetic signs to their vehicles as they deliver meals to homebound Seniors. The signs read “Meals on Wheels” along with the Plowshares, Fowler Auto Center and Subaru logos. Along with giving Fowler and Subaru recognition for their generous support, we hope it will encourage fellow motorists to be patient with our drivers as they slow down to search for addresses. Meals on Wheels is a Plowshares program that delivers hot, nutritious lunches to Seniors every weekday. There is no charge at this time for the program. If you are aware of a Senior in need of such help please direct them to call Rhonda De Los Santos at 462-8582. BLUES, BREWS & BBQ was a huge success!! It was a beautiful, warm evening for everyone to enjoy great music, good food, The Senior Center is requesting Volunteers for the Holidays The Senior Center is in need of people to help at their Thanksgiving Day Noon Meal, Thursday, November 26th.
