In case you haven’t heard, we will be making a new pictorial directory for our Holy Trinity family. We will not be using Olan Mills, but we will be using a very talented photographer — our very own Julie Brown! And, you will not need to make a special trip to church to have your picture taken... just stop by the Book Nook when you come to your church service on one of the dates below. You will not be receiving “portraits” of your family, but you can get a copy of your picture through the church. You choose who you would like in your picture and we will make it the best picture we can. We will be producing the directory in our office with special software available on our computers. You will be able to purchase a copy of the directory at the office, and the charge will simply cover the cost of printing. We are hoping to have all of our members included, and this is where we need your help! Please be sure to have your photograph taken at one of our sessions! Please make note of these details. Here are the Details: Dates: Saturdays, September 26 and October 3 Sundays, September 27 and October 4, 18 & 25 Times: After the 5:00pm, 7:30am & 9:00am services, and before the 11:15am service Where: The Book Nook (off the Parish Hall) How: There will not be appointments. Simply come and wait for your turn to be photographed. We will have assistants who will help with the order, getting correct name listings and any other information you may need. We will appreciate everyone’s patience and cooperation as we photograph everyone for our new directory! This is a very exciting project, and we are looking forward to having a wonderful new pictorial directory with everyone in our Holy Trinity family included in it. Please be sure you are there!! TRIBU NE Holy Trinity Episcopal Church From the co-rectors Nourishing Body and Soul Campaign at Holy Trinity The Historic Chapel at Holy Trinity is a very special place. One parishioner recently wrote this about it, “When I sit in the Historic Chapel, I feel its holiness. I feel the strength of the wood all around. I feel the grace ever present from Eucharist after Eucharist after Eucharist. I look again at the beautiful altar. I think of the WOOD OF THE CROSS on which Jesus died, pouring out his blood as a sacrifice for us. HOLY HOLY HOLY indeed!” Over the years the interior of the chapel remained much the same, but the exterior was changed from time to time. In 1924 the church was enlarged by 20 feet. A year later, a belfry and bell were added. Then, in 1963, the bell tower was not re-built when the chapel was moved to the current site. Through it all, the Chapel has been a place for baptisms, burials, marriages and healing prayer. The Nourishing Body and Soul Campaign will restore the Historic Chapel by repairing the stained glass windows and antique doors, but it will also revitalize the chapel with new insulation, new electrical wiring and air conditioning, a roomy, new front porch, an improved ramp and a bell-tower (with restrooms below the bell). In addition to the Chapel, the parish kitchen will also be remodeled to provide for easier food preparation, serving and cleanup. Beyond that, to the extent possible, this campaign will also fund other critical repairs needed in the parish. In the Chapel, the repairs will preserve a place of holiness for the next 130 years where people will continue to come together to experience peace and healing. The revitalization of the chapel will make it possible to begin to use the chapel for a Sunday morning service (or two). The improvements will also help with accessibility, and make weddings and other services easier to conduct with dignity and grace. The remodeling of the kitchen will expand possibilities for food preparation. For years, in the middle of the 20 th century, many meals were prepared in the parish kitchen. Then for a while, fewer meals were being prepared and the need for a stove and other appliances seemed less important. In the last decade the desire to cook at the church for parish meals in the parish hall and even in the gymnasium has expanded dramatically and fellowship events with food have multiplied. The kitchen renovation will better facilitate this nourishing of body and soul as we cook, eat and pray together. We want you to know that… this appeal is in addition to our Annual Giving Stewardship Program (which happens in October and November every year). The stewardship efforts fund the daily mission and ministry of the parish. Parishioners typically give pledges or tithes from the cash flow of their regular income. This appeal is to fund the specific projects listed below. Parishioners typically give to this kind of campaign from their assets. Gifts can be given in memory of a loved one or in thanksgiving for any blessing. Gifts can be made over 3 tax years. Gifts of securities are welcome. Pledge payments can be made by credit card. Goals of the Nourishing Body and Soul Campaign Financial Goal of the Campaign: $550,000 Time Period for Gifts: 2015 to 2017 (3 years) Revitalization of the Historic Chapel: • • • • • • • Restore Stained Glass Windows Restore Antique Doors Re-Paint Entire Building Re-build Porch/Steps on West Side Re-build Sacristy Landing and Steps Insulate under floor New Electrical Wiring • • • • • • • New Air Conditioning Units Expanded Front Porch with new steps New Accessibility Ramp on West Side New Bell Tower on East Side Bathrooms in base of Bell-Tower New Lighting inside chapel New carpeting in chapel (Continued on the top of page 3) 2 TR I BUN E Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Complete Kitchen Renovation with stainless steel commercial fixtures: • Restore Stained Glass Windows • Countertop Griddle • 6-Burner Range with Oven • Hi-temp Dish Washer • Hood with Fire Suppression • Sinks for food prep, clean-up and hand washing • Convection Oven • Stainless roll-around counters, work tables and serving line When the above improvements are completed, any remaining funds given will be used for critical capital repairs needed on parish property. Mark your calendars now to attend the 2015 Men’s Retreat held on the grounds of Camp Wingmann Retreat and Conference Center in Avon Park, FL. It is open to all men (and friends) in the Episcopal Diocese of Central Florida. Registration will begin soon! In-Tents worship & Church Picnic! Sunday, October 11 Mark your calendars for our Annual Church Picnic! It will take place under a tent on the school field. The schedule: • 9:00am - Special music by Raising the Joy • 9:30am - Worship Service with Holy Eucharist Raising the Joy is a blend of “old time” gospel, blues, rhythm and blues and a touch of the 50s and 60s. Our very own CW Sorrows is a member of this group. Most of the members are retired road musicians, and many were on tour with some big-name bands and orchestras. They are all volunteers and perform for the joy that it brings to the audience. The picnic, along with fun and games, will follow worship! Note: there will not be an 11:15am service on this day. 3 NEWCOMER WELCOME DINNER Mark Your Calendars for September 26! DATES to REMEMBER! 4 TR I BUN E Holy Trinity Episcopal Church FLOWER ARRANGING CLASS – FOR BEGINNERS October 24 from 9:30am-2:00pm Would you like to learn how to arrange church flowers? Maureen Hamilton will be conducting a class for beginners on October 24, from 9:30am - 2:00pm in the Parish Hall. Attendees will learn how to assemble flower arrangements, beginning with the basics, in this “hands-on” class. If you have always thought you would like to join the Flower Guild ministry, but don’t know where to start, this is the class for you. Reservations are required by September 15. Contact Judy Henderson at 321-327-3175 or email [email protected] if you would like to attend. Class size is limited, and the class will be opened to other churches on September 16, so please sign up by September 15. Note: please bring your own hand tools, knife, hand snips or flower scissors. AUCTION: 2006 - 2015 We would like to share a little of the history of the auction to those who joined Holy Trinity at a later date. Father Marlowe Iverson (Interim Rector) and his wife Pat, and Jim and Gail Pearson suggested to Mike and me (over bar-be-que and a cold beer) to have an auction to supplement the budget. The process began and we approached Thom and Barbara Lupton (auctioneers). Barbara just happened to be working for Devereux’s Development Department. They agreed to volunteer as our auctioneers at no cost to the church, and continued to do so for ten years, and they recruited their previous employees, Ed (son-in-aw), Julie (daughter), and Rob and Betsy to help with the auctions. Each year we began with nothing and ended up with a gym full of treasures. This was only accomplished with the total support of our congregation and friends. Over the past ten years the auction has raised nearly $190,000. This ministry gave us an opportunity to visit with so many wonderful people who shared their special stories with us. What treasured times we will remember. We would to like to thank you so much for the very moving recognition of our family: The Proclamation from the City of Melbourne, The Holy Land Wood Sculpture, Exemplary Christian Service Award to our family from Holy Trinity, and flowers and some special spirits from Devereux. Many people have helped over the course of the years, too many to list and we thank each of you. Thanks to our church staff, Holy Trinity Academy for the use of the gym, Joe Glover for allowing us to use his storage facility, our volunteer cordinators, Bill and Judith Barett, Janeen and Bob Merrill, our sign person, Lisa Merrill and of course Mike’s and my right hand person, Diane Cox. Thank you so much. As we close the last chapter of the auction let us just say that each was a day of fun and fellowship enjoyed by all. God’s Blessings to each of you, Mike & Becky Crews 5 Holy Trinity Events Cale Sunday Monday Tuesday Wedne 1 2 Co-Rectors’ Day Off 7:00am - Holy Euch 9:15am - Healing T 10:30am - HE / Hea 11:30am - Bible Stu 5:30pm - Trinity Rin 6:30pm - Family Ch 6 7 7:30am - Holy Eucharist Rite I 9:00am - Holy Eucharist Rite II 9:15am - Children’s Chapel (Pearson) 10:15am - Youth Group (LH) 10:30am - Sunday School (Pearson) 11:15am - Holy Eucharist Rite I Church Office Closed 13 14 7:30am - Holy Eucharist Rite I 9:00am - Holy Eucharist Rite II 9:15am - Children’s Chapel (Pearson) 10:00am - Holy Eucharist (Buena Vida) 10:15am - Youth Group (LH) 10:30am - Sunday School (Pearson) 11:15am - Holy Eucharist Rite I 9:30am - Flower Arranging LABOR DAY 8 9 Co-Rectors’ Day Off 7:00am - Holy Euch 10:30am - HE / Hea 11:30am - Bible Stu 9:30am - Flower Arranging 9:30am - St. Catherine’s Guild (LH) 2:00pm - Chair Yog 5:30pm - Trinity Rin 6:30pm - Family Ch NEWSLETTER DEADLINE 2:00pm - Exercise Class (LH) 15 16 Co-Rectors’ Day Off 11:00am - Daughters of the King (LH) 7:00am - Holy Euch 10:30am - HE / Hea 11:30am - Bible Stu 12:15pm - Keenagers (PH) 2:00pm - Chair Yog 5:30pm - Trinity Rin 6:30pm - Family Ch 20 21 22 23 7:30am - Holy Eucharist Rite I 9:00am - Holy Eucharist Rite II 9:15am - Children’s Chapel (Pearson) 10:15am - Youth Group (LH) 10:30am - Order of St. Luke (PR) 10:30am - Sunday School (Pearson) 11:15am - Holy Eucharist Rite I 9:30am - Flower Arranging 11:00am - Bible Study (LH) Co-Rectors’ Day Off 7:00am - Holy Euch 10:30am - HE / Hea 11:30am - Bible Stu 27 28 29 30 7:30am - Holy Eucharist Rite I 9:00am - Holy Eucharist Rite II 9:15am - Children’s Chapel (Pearson) 10:15am - Youth Group (LH) 10:30am - Health Forum (PH) 10:30am - Sunday School (Pearson) 11:15am - Holy Eucharist Rite I 9:30am - Flower Arranging 11:00am - Bible Study (LH) Co-Rectors’ Day Off 7:00am - Holy Euch 10:30am - HE / Hea 11:30am - Bible Stu 6 10:00am - Prayer Shawl Ministry (LH) 2:00pm - Exercise Class (LH) 2:00pm - Chair Yog 5:30pm - Trinity Rin 6:30pm - Family Ch 2:00pm - Exercise Class (LH) 2:00pm - Chair Yog 5:30pm - Trinity Rin 6:30pm - Family Ch endar - SEPTEMBER 2015 esday harist (Chapel) Teaching (Chapel) aling (Chapel) udy (LH) ngers (LWR) hoir (LWR) Thursday Friday 3 ngers (LWR) hoir (LWR) 4 5 Assistant Rector’s Day Off 7:30am - Men’s Bible Study (LH) 11:30am - Buildings & Grounds (LH) 3:45am - Treasure Kids Club 5:30pm - Youth Ministry Mission Team 6:30pm - Vestry Meeting (LH) 6:30pm - Youth Social Night (LH) 6:30pm - Accidental Grace (Church) 10 3:30pm - Accidental Grace Practice 5:00pm - Holy Eucharist (Church) 11 harist (Chapel) aling (Chapel) udy (LH) ga (LH) 12 Assistant Rector’s Day Off 3:45am - Treasure Kids Club 6:30pm - Health Ministry Team (LH) 6:30pm - Youth Social Night (LH) NIGHT OF JOY (Orlando/thru 9/13) 3:30pm - Accidental Grace Practice 5:00pm - Holy Eucharist (Church) 17 18 19 Assistant Rector’s Day Off 7:30am - Men’s Bible Study (LH) harist (Chapel) aling (Chapel) udy (LH) 11:00am - St. Margaret’s Guild (PH) ga (LH) 3:45am - Treasure Kids Club ngers (LWR) hoir (LWR) 6:30pm - Youth Social Night (LH) 6:30pm - Accidental Grace (Church) 3:30pm - Accidental Grace Practice 5:00pm - Holy Eucharist (Church) 24 25 harist (Chapel) aling (Chapel) udy (LH) 9:30am - Staff Meeting Assistant Rector’s Day Off 3:45am - Treasure Kids Club 9:00am - Newsletter Folders (LH) ga (LH) 6:30pm - Youth Social Night (LH) ga (LH) ngers (LWR) hoir (LWR) NEWSLETTER FOLDERS 6:00pm - St. Cuthbert’s Beer Brewing (Rectory) ngers (LWR) hoir (LWR) harist (Chapel) aling (Chapel) udy (LH) Saturday 26 3:30pm - Accidental Grace Practice 5:00pm - Holy Eucharist (Church) 6:15pm - Newcomer Welcome Dinner (PH) GUIDE: (Church) = Main Church (Pearson) = Pearson Hall (LH) = Lewis Hall (Chapel) = Historic Chapel (PH) = Parish Hall (PR) = Prayer Room (Gallery) (LWR) = Lou West Music Room in Pearson Hall 7 TRIBU NE Holy Trinity Episcopal Church Donations in the “LITTLE CHAPEL” Donations in the “Little Chapel” provide summer fun for Holy Trinity children. Each week, birthdays and anniversaries are listed in the weekly bulletins, and people come forward to receive their annual blessing. A tradition started several years ago allows those who wish to do so to make a donation in the “Little Chapel” (located near the pulpit); these donations are used for the Camp Wingmann scholarship fund. Over the past year, $422 was donated in the “Little Chapel” and 15 children were given scholarships to attend summer camp. Your donations were well spent to enhance Christian fellowship and support our children as we promise in the Baptismal Covenant when the congregation says, “We will,” when asked by Fr. Steve and Rev. Pam, “Will you who witness these vows do all in your power to support these persons in their life in Christ?” What better way to support these children than to send them to summer camp where they will spend a week learning how to be good Christians. ROSE ON A MISSION! My grandfather, Martin Krupansky, came to the US for the American dream. He worked in a coal mine and saved enough money to bring my father here, where they would both work and save enough to bring my grandmother and my father’s siblings. My father, John, arrived in the US at the age of 16 only to find out his father accidently died in the coal mine. He tried to find out when and where he died and was buried, but was never able to locate the information. He was not able to bring his mother and siblings to the US, so the family never saw each other again. With information we received from the extended family in the Slovak and Czech Republics, we were able to locate his death certificate which had the location (Uniontown, PA) and the funeral home and cemetery were listed. Mind you, he was buried on April 10, 1910. I called the Diocese and found out that the great-grand-daughter of the funeral director who buried my grandfather is now the director of the funeral home. Her name is Stephanie Haky and she was very helpful. I wanted to have a marker made for my grandfather’s grave and she connected me with the company that took care of that. On May 26, 2015 we drove from our vacation in upstate NY to meet Stephanie and see my grandfather’s final resting place, now with a grave stone. We took pictures to share with the relatives in the Czech-Slovak Republic who do not yet know we’ve located his gravesite. I did this for my father, who always regretted not knowing where his father was buried or how he died. Rest in peace, grandfather. MISSION COMPLETED! ~ Rose Himmenger (granddaughter), Joanie and Rose (great-granddaughters), Brent (great-great-grandson) 8 Healing Teaching will meet Life at HT on Wednesday, August 5 at 9:15am in the Historic Chapel.
