1. Determine your eligibility
In order to own a
firearm suppressor
in NC, you have to
meet the following
requirements:
• 21 years of age
• No felony convictions
• No domestic violence convictions
• U.S. citizen
• Be a resident of a qualifying state
(if you’re a NC resident, you’re good)
2. PICK YOUR CAN (OR SBR)
If you live in a NC county with a Class
3-friendly Chief Law Enforcement Officer
(CLEO, most often the sheriff) this is an option.
Individual - If you decide to purchase your
silencer individually, you will be solely
responsible for its use. No one else will be
permitted to use or possess it without
committing a felony. Purchasing a suppressor
as an individual presents several issues, and it
is not considered the most efficient method.
Talk to us at ProShots™ about which suppressor
or short barrel rifle is best for you. Use a trust
attorney before using a ready-made form.

3. SILENCER VS. Suppressor
We recommend using a local attorney
or going to www.guntrustlawyer.com.
Hollywood calls it a silencer, but it’s really
more like a muffler — not completely
silent. Still a boss, though.
4. Set up a trust account
Set up a trust account at a local bank using the name of your new
trust. This account should be separate from your bank account.
We recommend buying your NFA items through this account.
5. Fill out the required
forms in duplicate
4. SBR and SBS
You can also purchase other NFA items with this
system including short-barreled shotguns and
rifles. Any items under this act are covered.
• ATF Form 4 (titled ATF Form 5320.4)
• ATF Form 5330.20 Certification of
Compliance with U.S.C 922(g)(5)(B)
5. Conjugal visit information
Just received a new device? No need to suppress your
excitement! ProShots welcomes conjugal visits so you
can shoot even if you’re still waiting on paperwork.
6. Pay the $200
transfer tax
Simply send your check or money order to The Bureau of
Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives. FUN FACT: This law
was written in 1934, and the amount due has never changed!
7. Submit your paperwork
and allow it to clear
While this is an “easier”
way to purchase a
suppressor because it
does not require
fingerprinting,
photography, law
enforcement
authorization or
background
checks, it IS more
expensive AND
often
requires the
assistance of an
attorney to
ensure that the
trust is established
correctly. However, the
use of a trust attorney is a
safer option. Using a trust
to purchase your
suppressor also allows
other trust beneficiaries,
such as a spouse and
children, to use the
accessory.
Waiting is never fun, but ProShots allows conjugal
visits, so come on over! Until your ATF stamp arrives
you can shoot at our range.
8. Fill out ATF Form 4473 Firearms

ATF will mail the approved tax stamp to
your dealer. Your dealer will notify you upon
arrival, and you can stop by to pick it up.

It’s a good idea to make multiple copies of the approved
Form 4 for your records and to store them in a variety of
safe places. Also, you must have a copy of the approved
Form 4 with the suppressor at all times.
