2016.
MAY WEEKEND
The Hostel will close on Monday 2nd May 2016
and re-open on Wednesday 4th May 2016.
Above: Pupils and staff working hard on their fitness.
As part of the Health and Wellbeing in the Hostel,
we held a Circuit Training Class with kettle bells
and weights led by Mrs Lorraine Robinson, fitness
trainer and aerobics instructor. The room was
filled with enthusiastic young people and each
and every one of them along with Mary Peek
houseparent were put through their paces!
Everyone worked so hard and moved around the
circuit with incredible ease! Press ups, lunges and
pull ups were part of this challenge and the
young people did them all. The class was a
great success and everyone’s keen to do this
again.
HOSTEL MAKEOVERS
Our young people have been involved in
deciding the interior designs of their games room
and movie/music room. This has involved a
shopping trip across the water to choose pictures
and soft furnishings. As you can see on the next
page, a very productive shopping evening was
had.

S2-S4 will start their new timetables on Monday 9th
May 2016.

Staff News
Recently we said farewell and best wishes to our
catering manager Helen McLeod as she leaves
us for new adventures in her new location. After
18 years’ service with the hostel she is thought of
with much affection and will be missed by all.
Helen sends her best wishes to all and her thanks
to everyone who contributed to her present.
Does my head look big in this!

COOKS IN THE KITCHEN
Over the last few Tuesdays this term we have been in the kitchen cooking up a storm. Food from around
the world. We have had pasta dishes, stir fries, a really good chili con carne (sort of) and the best curry
with rice. All washed down with a “bath” full of different soups. Everyone has had a shot in the kitchen it’s
been good fun for all, especially eating at the end for supper. Best of all we don’t think we had any waste.
Next term we are going to plan a menu, cook the menu planned and of course eat it at the end!
Great British Bake Off for
Lots of activity and creativity in the kitchen as our young people baked an impressive array of delicious
and colourful cakes in a competion which saw Cara Smith and Aaron Moses as winners of taste and Ellise
Blair and Laura McMath winning the best for decoration. Messy but fun! Will advise the amount raised
when known.

ARTS & CRAFTS
We have been very fortunate in having Alison an Arts and Crafts coordinator visit the hostel. Alison has
generously volunteered her spare time to providing arts and crafts activities for our young people. Here
the group are making lava lamps which looked great standing on LED light bases.
HOSTEL GARDEN PROJECT
A group of staff and young people recently met to discuss plans and ideas for the garden. A decision has
been reached and plans approved for work to begin on an area at the back of the grounds. A committee
has been set up consisting of young people and volunteer staff and we will be looking for support for the
project from other young people, parents, staff and outside parties. More information to follow.
THANK YOU
Staff were delighted to receive this batch of truly delicious Easter meringues baked by Rory Macrae’s mum
Lorna. Literally gone as soon as seen!!!
Have a lovely holiday and good luck to all the senior pupils who will be sitting exams soon.
