Last year, thanks to our contributors, the auction raised $3125.00. As an IRS-approved (501)(c)(3) nonprofit organization, if you provide an item for the auction, a letter will be mailed to you as documentation of your contribution. Any item is welcome including gift baskets, sports memorabilia, and Christmas items. Please send any memorabilia to: The Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas Attn: Silent Auction 377 Rubin Center Drive, Suite 106 Fort Mill, SC 29708 This year’s game will be broadcast live on ESPN3 with replay airings on ESPNU on December 26, 2015 at 4pmE, December 27 and 2015 at 10amE. A January broadcast will be announced later. Mary McFadden, Shrine Bowl Office Manager, is ready to receive your game ticket orders, banquet reservations and your game program book advertisements. All major credit cards and checks will be accepted. Order forms are available at www.shrine-bowl.com. She also said that game tickets can also be ordered online at the website. Shrine Bowl Game Tickets will be available at Academy Sports Outdoors’ stores in North and South Carolina. Beginning in November. THE GOALPOST A Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas Publication Page 4 Alumni News We are sad to report that the legendary voice of Doug Mayes of Denver, NC has fallen silent. He passed away on October 18th at his home. Noble Doug, 93 years young, was Past Potentate of Oasis Shiners’ in Charlotte, former Esso Reporter on WBT and served for many years as News Anchor for WBT-TV Channel 3 and WSOC Channel 9 in Charlotte. For many years, Doug Mayes was the stadium voice of the Shrine Bowl at Veterans Stadium in Charlotte. Among the many awards that he received for his life time accomplishments was being inducted into the Shrine Bowl Hall of Fame in the Class of 2010. At the 75th Annual Shrine Bowl Game in Spartanburg, SC in 2011 Illustrious Sir Doug rejoined the stadium broadcast team and assisted stadium announcer, Joe Sessoms, They remanenced about the many games Doug worked as stadium announcer in Charlotte. Goal Post Editor French Harvey and Illustrious Sir Doug Mayes in the Press Harding High School in Charlotte renamed its football field for former coach Dave Harris during a ceremony on Sept. 11. Harris, who died in 2010 at age 86, worked in Charlotte Mecklenburg Schools for more than four decades, including a long stint as system wide athletic director. He coached at Harding from 1948-66, won two state titles and sent 73 players to college on scholarship. He was twice state coach of the year and was later named national athletic director of the year. He was CMS director of athletics from 1967-91. Born in 1924, Trap Hill, he attended Statesville High School and Wake Forest University. Coach Harris was an assistant coach for the NC team in the 1952 Shrine Bowl and the North Carolina Head Coach for the 1956 Shrine Bowl. He was recently named to the North Carolina High School Sports Hall of Fame. THE GOALPOST A Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas Publication Page 5 Woodmen of the World Donates Flags to SBOC Charles Davis, Representative from Woodmen of the World, Lodge #1319, Goldsboro, NC with members pictured above presented 50 US flags to Nobles’ Tony Edwards and Jeff Taylor, members of the Board of Directors, Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. The flags will be raised on individual flag poles situated around the Wolford College Stadium at the 2015 Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas on December 20, 2015. The presentation of the donated flags was made at the June 2015 Wayne Shrine Club general membership meeting. The box in the foreground contains the flags.
