Ron Long, Athletic Director of the Shrine Bowl said, “Tar Heel Head Coach John Kirby of Eastern Alamance High School in Mebane, and Sandlapper Head Coach Wayne Green of Berea High School in Greenville, along with their respective coaching staffs selected 44 players each, in what they termed would well represent their respective states. This final selection process culminates nearly a year of extraordinary work that these coaching staffs’ dedicate to the selection process in addition to their regular jobs.” See the rosters for each state on the next two pages. The Junior Shrine Bowl game is designed to offer a High School level experience for 54 of our best 6th grade football players from both South and North Carolina. Players and Coaches for the Junior All-Star game will be selected on Nov 5. At the Board of Governors meeting in Myrtle Beach last month, Illustrious Sir Todd Ham, Oasis Potentate was elected as the Fifth Vice-President. Chief Rabban Johnny King and Recorder Gary Taylor, PP were also elected to the board. Assistant Rabban Mike Neaves, and Nobles John Cable, Danny Wren and French Harvey were elected as Members at Large on the board Oasis Shriners Potentate Todd Ham Mary McFadden, Shrine Bowl Office Manager, is ready to receive your game ticket orders, banquet reservations and your game program book advertisements. Simon’s design was chosen from 35 of Nation Ford high school’s Digital Arts & Design class, led by Mr. Joe McConkey. This class has been in partnership with the Shrine Bowl for the past 4 years. Boston, the son of Joe and Mitzi Henderson, is currently serving as Editor-in-Chief of the Clover High School yearbook where he is also on the A/B Honor Roll and a member of Interact. He attended the Baldwin Pre-Collegiate Fellowship Conference for a course in Business and Investigative Journalism which offered high school leaders cutting edge instruction in the journalism field. Additionally, he has been recognized for verified skills essential to workplace success and career advancement by the Gold National Career Readiness. Having taken lessons since the age of eight from multiple professionally trained instructors, Boston enjoys playing the piano. He is also a member the Boy Scouts of America. Not committed to a college as of yet, Boston is interested in attending the University of Georgia, University of South Carolina, Full Sale University, or the Carolina School of Broadcasting. His major of study will be Communications/Broadcast Journalism/Graphic Design. Megan McCarter, the daughter of Tony McCarter and Kelly Ratcliff, a senior at Clover High School in South Carolina has been selected as a Student Correspondent for the 79th Shrine Bowl of the Carolinas. She will be one of two students covering the game week events in Spartanburg. An active member in her school, she participates with the yearbook staff and has served on the editorial board and as business manager, Additionally she is involved with the 4H club, is a member of the student council, French Club, and Project Unify-Special Olympics, She has been inducted into the National Honor Society and the National French Honor Society. Megan maintains grades to be on the A/B Honor Roll. Although not committed to a college, she has an interest in attending Clemson University, University of South Carolina, Furman University, or the College of Charleston. Her course of study will be Chemical Engineering/Pre-Pharmacy. Both Megan and Boston will report daily on the both teams progress, interview players, coaches, and staff members, and will be with the team throughout the week leading up to the game. They will also create, write, edit, and publish a daily newsletter that will show case their journalism articles. The newsletter will be available each night during game week on our website.
