CHATEAU TOUR SAINT-ANDRE Lalande de Pomerol 2008 DELICIOUS, RICH, AND EASY-TO-DRINK 2008 was a slow-ripening vintage. It took a long time for the grapes to mature, ferment, and macerate, but the end result is a wine that strikes just the right balance between power and finesse. 2008 is undoubtedly one of the finest vintages of the early 21 st century. After some worries in early spring, nature took its time to provide us with all the necessary conditions to make a superb wine with good ageing potential! Fermentation went very smoothly, followed by judicious barrel ageing and a winning final blend of Merlot from young vines, Cabernet Franc from old vines, and a touch of Cabernet Sauvignon. The result is a rich, but tremendously delicious and easy-to-drink wine that is very characteristic of Tour Saint-André, the second wine of the grand vin, Château Haut-Chaigneau. Tasting notes, July 2010 by Pascal Chatonnet: Beautiful, relatively dark colour with fine vermilion highlights and rich legs when the wine is swirled in the glass. The bouquet is reminiscent of redcurrant and raspberry jelly, going on to reveal aromas of forest floor, humus, and a more volatile, but very attractive roast coffee component. The wine starts out on the palate in a way very typical of Tour Saint-André, with soft, elegant tannin, and no excess of any kind. The flavour profile is rich, but above all easy -to-drink. This is a wine that provides enormous, uncomplicated tasting pleasure. Tour Saint-André Lalande de Pomerol 2008 FACT SHEET Area under wine : Second wine of Château Haut-Chaigneau. Sun Exposure : North-South and east-west (50/50). Soil : Located in the Lalande de Pomerol appellation-primarily siliceous-clay and clay-gravel-sand on the chevrol plateau in the commune of Néac, close to Grand Ormeau and Les Cruzelles. Grape varieties : 55% Merlot – 45% Cabernet Franc. Average age of vines : 25 years. Rooststock : 3309C, SO4, 5BB, 196-17 CI. Viticulture : Traditional. Harvesting : Each grape variety and plot is picked at peak ripeness. Fermentation : Each grape variety is fermented separately using state-of-the-art techniques, but fully in keeping with Bordeaux traditions. Ageing : 12 months in oak barrels, 70 % of which have been previously used to age two vintages and 30% for one vintage. Underground cellar specially designed for ageing fine wine. Yield : 45 hectolitres per hectare. Production : 40 000 bottles in 2008. Marketing: Sold via Bordeaux négociants, as well as direct sales to private customers.
