BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS
Our annual Blessing of the Animals will take place Saturday, October 5, in the parking lot in front of the rectory at
11:00 a.m. We time this blessing each year to take place near the feast day of Saint Francis on October 4. This is an
opportunity to glorify God in all His Creation and give thanks for the animals and pets that enrich our lives. I Fr. Vaughn
will be the celebrant and our gift shop will be present, providing medallions and other items related to the blessing for
sale. Donations are welcome and all proceeds go to the building fund, but there is no cost to have your animal blessed.
Please note cats should be in a carry-all and dogs should be on a leash. Please avoid feeding the animals prior to the
blessing, and bring clean up items in case of pet accidents. All animals are welcome, from mice to horses! Thank you
for participating in this special celebration, and a special thank you to the Palmdale Knights of Columbus for helping to
organize it.

Nuestra bendición anual de los animales tendrá lugar el sábado, 5 de octubre en el estacionamiento frente a la rectoría a las 11:00 a.m. Tenemos tiempo de esta bendición cada año que tendrá lugar cerca de la fiesta de San Francisco
el 4 de octubre. Esta es una oportunidad para glorificar a Dios en toda su creación y dar gracias por los animales y las

Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults
RCIA Inquiry classes will begin soon. Please join us on Sunday August
18 or August 25 from 10:00 AM to 11:45 AM or Tuesday evening, August
27, from 7:00PM to 9:00PM to begin the RCIA process. Classes are located in the Holy Family Room (behind the church adjacent to the new
hall). Information and calendars will be provided at these introduction
sessions.
What is RICA? The Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA) is a process
established for the universal Church for individuals to become Catholic and
receive the sacraments of initiation –Baptism, Confirmation, and Eucharist.
Whom is RCIA for? Persons in need of Baptism.
Persons baptized in another Christian tradition who desire to become
Catholic. Persons baptized Catholic in need of First Communion and
Confirmation (for those who need Confirmation only, Confirmation
only classes will be offered sometime in early winter of 2014. Contact

Working Together To Prevent Child Abuse

VIRTUS® Protecting God's Children™ Program
Protecting God's Children Adult Awareness Session is a three-hour
training that helps clergy, staff, volunteers and parents to understand the facts and myths
about child abuse; how perpetrators operate; and how caring adults can take five important
steps to keep children safe. The parent session also stresses monitoring of computers, cell
phones and other technology that perpetrators use to gain access to children and young
people.

Este taller es requerido para todos lo voluntarios de la Parroquia incluyendo Educación Religiosa, Programas organizados por la Escuela Santa Maria, todos los ministerios de la
Paroquia. Cualquier grupo que se reuna en la Iglesia. Los voluntarios que no lo tomen no podran seguir ayudando en sus ministerios hasta que lo

Fingerprinting/Huellas Digitales —All clergy, paid parish/school personnel and volunteers who work regularly in a supervisory role with children or youth must be fingerprinted. In the Parish we all work near children—All Saint Mary’s volunteers must be fingerprinted.

Did you know that all Catholic school personnel in the Archdiocese of Los Angeles are
screened for their ability to work safely with children, are provided information and training to help them recognize and deal with issues of child sexual abuse and are offered guidance and instruction on appropriate professional conduct with students? Likewise, all
seminarians and candidates for the diaconate go through extensive evaluation and psychological assessment before entering formation. After ordination, priests and deacons receive
ongoing training on maintaining the integrity of the ministerial relationship.
