CLARE Foundation 2006-2007
Annual Report
Dear CLARE Supporters,
We are pleased to present the 2006-2007 Annual Report of the CLARE Foundation. Thirty-eight years
ago, our founders rented a small storefront to help the growing population of homeless alcoholics on the
beaches of Santa Monica and Venice. This effort evolved into a matrix of 11 programs throughout the
Westside of Los Angeles that provide compassionate treatment and recovery services for alcohol and
substance abuse to individuals, families, and the community.
This annual report covers our 37th year, one of extraordinary growth. Each year over 25,000 people
turned to CLARE for help. Over 2,600 are admitted to one of CLARE’s 11 comprehensive programs; all
others are counseled and/or referred to partner agencies. Of those people admitted to CLARE, 90%
successfully completed their program, meaning they left CLARE sober, with safe housing and steady
employment.
One of the year’s highlights was the completion of a Strategic Plan, which has several inspiring goals,
including an expansion of our Clarity for Youth Program and a deeper cultivation of our social service
partners. We also completed a revision of Our Guide to Human Resources Policies and Practices.
CLARE’s Development department has seen tremendous success as they have raised the most nongovernmental operating funds in CLARE’s history. In order to increase exposure, they also created a new
giving group called the Circle of CLARE, a sustaining group of donors that attracted over 70 members. In
addition to our annual Tribute Dinner, the team also produced a first-time spring event, ART for CLARE, a
fundraiser that attracts prestigious artists, art collectors, and new friends and supporters.
Another milestone was the implementation of the Community Bridges Program, made possible by the
$2,000,000 grant that SAMHSA awarded to CLARE and its social service partners in order to reach out
more aggressively to those struggling with addiction, mental illness, and homelessness. We also initiated
an important training program for staff with UCLA’s Pacific Southwest Addiction Technology Transfer
Center.
Our programs continue to change lives and influence behavior. The following are some of the statistics that
underscore our success:
