A Message from the Colorado FFA Foundation
On behalf of the Colorado FFA Foundation Board of Directors, I am pleased to announce that
phase one of our first ever capital Campaign has been completed! Gifts of $3.3 million were given to
complete the construction of the CoBank Center for Agricultural Education. This could not have been
completed without the generosity of over 200 of our industry partners and the great partnership we
have with Colorado State University. As we finish phase one we will look to phase 2 of the campaign,
raising $1.5 million needed to create an endowed teaching position in agricultural education at CSU.
Once this is complete, Ag Education at CSU will be in great shape to continue to produce the most
experienced, confident, and qualified agricultural education teachers in the country. We believe
strong agricultural education programs and FFA chapters all start with a well prepared instructor.
The Colorado FFA Foundation will continue to keep our mission in clear focus and work to provide
resources for FFA members all across Colorado. It is with great pride that we announce we have
invested more dollars into FFA members and FFA programs than ever before. We could not
have done it without having so many generous partners. Thank you to everyone who believes so
passionately in youth involved in agriculture.
Don Thorn, Executive Director

The Foundation
The Colorado FFA Foundation, Inc. was
organized in 1983 by a group of volunteers
that believed a strong support system
for the Colorado FFA Association and its
student members was imperative to develop
emerging leaders in agriculture and to
further the organization’s goals in Colorado.
In 1989, the Foundation was incorporated
as a non-profit entity under Section 501(c)
(3) of the Internal Revenue Code and began
actively seeking funds to assist the Colorado
FFA Association in its activities and to
support FFA members in their local chapters.
The Foundation is led by an appointed Board
of Trustees and managed by a full-time
executive director.
Mission
The Colorado FFA Foundation seeks
resources - human, financial and in-kind - to
support agricultural education in Colorado,
including students (FFA, ATA and CYFEA),
teachers (CVATA) and alumni. These are our
Team AgEd partners.
Key Purposes

Career Development
Events
For students who ask their teachers, “When
will I ever use this in the real world?” Career
Development Events (CDEs) are the answer.
Since 1928, FFA has worked to create CDEs
that demonstrate the meaningful connections
between classroom instruction and real-world
application. Classroom instruction comes
alive as students demonstrate their skills in a
competitive setting.
FFA career development events are based on
the curriculum that is taught in the agriculture
classroom and laboratory. These events
challenge FFA members to use their specific
agricultural knowledge as well as a wide range
of expertise from communication skills to
analytical and critical thinking skills.
Each year, the Colorado FFA Association, in
conjunction with Colorado State University,
hosts the state-level career development
events. A winning team (or individual) is
selected in each event and qualifies for the
national competition. The national events are
held each fall in concurrence with the national
FFA convention.
To recognize these accomplished young
people for their efforts and to assist those who
are representing Colorado in the national
competition, the Colorado FFA Foundation
seeks funding for plaques, medals and cash
awards to the top three, and one travel
scholarship to the winner that will represent
Colorado at the national FFA convention in
Louisville, Kentucky.
Proficiency Awards Given
at State FFA Convention
FFA provides an agricultural proficiency
awards program in 47 different areas to
recognize FFA members who demonstrate
exceptional progress in their Supervised
Agricultural Experience programs (SAEs) or
agricultural enterprises.
Colorado Agriculture Hall
of Fame Banquet
The Hall of Fame Banquet is the major
fundraising event for the Colorado FFA
Foundation that provides financial and
program support for FFA members across the
state. Support through underwriting a table
will help to ensure that many opportunities are
available for FFA members each year.
International Experience
for State Officers
Each year, the Colorado FFA officers choose a
country of interest to visit. During their tour,
the officers meet with agriculture officials and
business people from the selected country.
Some years, they also have a host family
experience. This international experience
provides the officers with a valuable
perspective into global agriculture and people
from other cultures. The officers share this
experience with FFA members all across the
state of Colorado throughout their year of
service and beyond.
11
The Blue Jacket Society has three focus areas
of support:
1. Help establish an Endowed Chair in Agricultural Education at CSU.
2. Provide scholarships to FFA members
pursing advanced training beyond
high school.
3. Welcome new agriculture education
teachers to the profession through new
teacher stipends.

Foundation Star Partners
For 85 years the Colorado FFA Association has been making a positive difference in the
lives of thousands of FFA members by developing their potential for premier leadership,
personal growth and career success through a comprehensive agricultural education program.
The Star Partner Program is a great way for businesses and organizations to “co-brand”
their products and services in the Colorado agricultural education marketplace, which includes more
than 6,000 students, 150 teachers and 300+ alumni members. More than sponsorship, this program is
designed to create a win-win for participants.
The Star Partner Program is designed to promote those businesses and organizations that
support the health and vitality of agricultural education in Colorado and have chosen to
participate in an annual partnership program rather than specific sponsorship.
To become a Star Partner, contact Don Thorn, CO FFA Foundation Executive Director at
719-829-4483 or [email protected].

Star Partner Program
Planned Giving Program
Businesses and individuals that are interested
in giving a one-time annual contribution
to the Colorado FFA Foundation to support
general FFA activities are encouraged to
participate in the Star Partner Program. Star
Partners determine their individual level of
giving in return for year-around benefits and
recognition. For more details, visit
www.coloradoffafoundation.org.
The Colorado FFA Foundation has established
a Planned Giving Program to provide
individuals with the opportunity to designate
ongoing support for FFA in Colorado.
Contributions to this fund will be managed
in a permanent investment fund, with the
proceeds used by the foundation to support the
program and scholarship needs of FFA across
the state.
Collegiate Scholarship
Program
The Board of Trustees will administer all
contributions to the Planned Giving Program
with guidance from professional investing
consultants. Here are some examples of the
types of contributions that may be made to the
Planned Giving Program.
The Colorado FFA Foundation administers a
scholarship program to provide funding for
the further advancement of the members’
education. Students are encouraged to
complete and submit an application to the
Colorado FFA Association for consideration.
The Board of Trustees administers all
contributions for collegiate scholarships.
Proficiency Endowment
Program
Businesses and individuals that believe in the
goals and activities of the FFA are encouraged
to endow a Colorado FFA Proficiency Award.
A gift of $7500 will the insure the donor is
recognized as the sponsor of the award for 25
years. The Foundation will deposit the funds
in a restricted, interest-bearing account where
the interest pays the annual funding amount
needed for the award area.
Direct Lifetime Giving
This is a direct contribution that may be used
to reduce individual or corporate taxes, while
benefiting the Colorado FFA Foundation.
Direct Testamentary
Giving
Through this approach, individuals may
contribute to the Colorado FFA Foundation,
while dramatically reducing the taxes of
their estate. There is no immediate cost to
the individual. The Colorado FFA Foundation
receives the gift only when the donor’s estate
is settled.
Giving Through
Charitable Trusts
Through contributing to a trust, funds and
real assets designated for the Colorado FFA
Foundation, a 501(c) 3 charitable entity,
would benefit the Colorado FFA Foundation
long term while providing satisfaction to the
donor that program(s) that they believe in can
be maintained for quite some time into the
future.
14
Reconnecting With Past
FFA Members Campaign
Since 1928, thousands of agriculture students
have donned the official FFA jacket and
championed the FFA creed. FFA has opened its
doors and its arms to ensure that all students
could reap the benefits of agricultural education.
Now we are asking former members and
associates to get back in touch. If you are a
former Colorado FFA member, we want to hear
from you!
Please call the Colorado FFA Foundation office,
at 719-829-4483 or email
[email protected].
Suite Donations
Businesses and organizations that want to
support the Colorado FFA Foundation may also
donate their company suite to any major sporting
event. The Foundation will organize the effort to
encourage participation in the sporting event and
accept seat donations that will be used to grow
the Foundation general fund.
