CONFESSIONS SATURDAY 8:30 am to 10:00 am T he next couple of months will include much life and activity in our parish. Confirmation with the Archbishop, six First Holy Communion ceremonies, May Crowning and an outdoor candle-light Marian rosary ceremony, a plethora of weddings, a few Emmaus and Marriage Covenant retreats, school Masses, graduation ceremonies, the ordination of new priests at the Cathedral, my own 25th anniversary of priestly ordination, the welcome of a deacon for the summer, and the arrival of a new Parochial Vicar, the departure of Father Martin, the building of the grotto to Saint Therese, the remaining change-out of windows in the school, the installation of a long-awaited elevator in our three-story school building, the summertime departure of our seminarian, Luis Pavon, as he returns to the seminary, as well as the welcome of a new seminarian intern, soon to be announced, to begin in September. It’s also Baptism season. Every Saturday and Sunday is replete with baptismal ceremonies. Wow! A lot is taking place! The remainder of the bulletin contains the “rest of the story,” I think. For your convenience and perusal, I will soon produce the annual “year in review report” for publication in an upcoming June edition of our bulletin. I will also soon be publishing the projected budget for the fiscal year which will begin in July. All signs are good as we continue to forge ahead as a vibrant parish with renewed energy and life. We now have 47 active ministries in the parish, and a growing 3,200 registered families. All to the glory of God. We will soon be publishing a booklet/brochure on the “Sacred Art and Architecture of Little Flower Church” which will be available as we begin summertime. It is designed for our own educational use, for a record of the church’s patrimony as we approach our 90th anniversary, as well as serving as material for the new weekly tours of our beautiful church edifice which we will soon begin this summer. You’ll be amazed at what we have in our church, the beauty of the art, and the meaning behind the sacred symbolism. We are so very blessed to have the church we have! I am happy to report that last January’s Archbishop Charities and Development campaign has seen very promising results. According to the initial reports, so long as all donors and pledge-makers follow through on their kind gifts, our parish will have reached and surpassed its goal yet again. As you know, any overage from the campaign will come back to the parish as a worthy support to our operational and ministerial budget. A true gift indeed! A big thank you to all who have donated to the ABCD. During these Sundays of the Easter season, we hear accounts of the Resurrection appearances of our Blessed Lord. He manifested Himself and His risen life, he formed a community of believers that became the Church, He ate with them, He bestowed spiritual power upon them, and He continues to feed His people, even still, through the Sacraments and the Church which acts in His name. Glory to God in the Highest! 2711 Indian Mound Trail Coral Gables, Florida 33134 Phone: (305) 446-9950 www.cotlf.org SACRED STEPS: Follow us on Facebook and Twitter! This kind of reflection puts us back in touch with the original experience and reminds us of the relaxation and wonder the vacation afforded us. Today, on the Third Sunday of Easter, the Church blesses us with reminders of what we celebrated two Sundays ago. All three readings are reflections on the meaning of the death and resurrection of Christ. One of the threads running through these reflections is that the purpose of the Lord’s suffering, death, and resurrection was to save us, to forgive our sins. Copyright © J. S. Paluch Co. Copyright © J. S. We are happy to announce a special pilgrimage trip to the country of Ireland, September 4th thru September 12th. The trip is entitled, the “Saint Patrick and Northern Ireland” and will include visits to historical monasteries, national seminaries and cathedrals, the shrine of Our Lady of Knock, a tour of several major cities, including Dublin, and a journey through the pristine landscape of the Emerald Isle. Excellent local Irish cuisine, drink, and music will round out the experience. For more information, or to get your name on the list, contact Mark Landia at the Communications Office. An information evening, which includes a PowerPoint presentation given by representatives of the travel company, will take place on Thursday, April 23 at 7:30pm in Comber Hall. All are welcome to attend. Brochures will likewise soon be available. On Saturday, May 9th, there will be SIX new priests ordained for the Archdiocese of Miami. As a parish spiritual “field-trip,” especially for those who have never seen an ordination ceremony before, it will be an inspiring experience. If you would like to go as a group, we have arranged for a bus to take 50 parishioners roundtrip from Little Flower to St. Mary’s Cathedral for the ordination. The bus will leave at 8:30am and will return by 1:00pm. First come first serve. Bus tickets are $10. Contact Jorge Perez at the Advancement Office for more information. WILL YOUR NAME BE ON THE NEW ST. THERESE GROTTO BRICK PATIO? In preparation for the opening of the 90th anniversary year of St. Theresa Catholic School, a grotto in honor our patroness, St. Therese, the Little Flower, will be built on the yard near the entrance to the church office building. The grotto will incorporate a lovely patio, which will contain memorialized bricks. Each brick is available for a sponsoring price of $125 per brick. We are now accepting the final batch of brick orders to be included on the patio. Order forms are available at the Information Booth after Mass, or at the Advancement Office here at the parish center. The final work order will be sent in to the company on May 15th. Buy your brick today. On Saturday, May 30th, Father Davis will celebrate the 5:00pm Mass, marking his 25th anniversary of priestly ordination. Four bishops, 30 priests, and six deacons are scheduled to be present. All parishioners are likewise welcome to join Father Davis’s family from Ohio for this solemn liturgy, which will be sung by the choir, and video recorded. Since there is not enough room to have a parish-wide, all inclusive celebratory gathering at the parish hall or school cafeteria, Father has chosen to have a dinner reception with his out-of-town family and visiting priests. Some members of the office staff, Parish Council, Finance Council, and parochial ministries (whose seats are confirmed in advance) will represent the rest of the parish community at this reception. Thank you in advance for all who will make these occasions special for Father Davis, and for your patience and understanding regarding these special plans and their limitations. As you may have read in the Easter Sunday bulletin, our Parochial Vicar, Father Daniel Martin will be leaving us at the end of June to take on a new assignment as a full-time doctoral student at the Catholic University of America in Washington, D.C. The Archbishop of Miami has indicated that his new assignment is effective July 1st. For planning purposes, we are now announcing Father’s farewell celebration at Little Flower, which is now scheduled to take place on Sunday, June 28th. He will celebrate the 5:30pm Mass, followed by a reception in Comber Hall. All are welcome. April is Child Abuse Prevention Month. The Archdiocese of Miami runs one of the most robust awareness and prevention programs in the country. For more information contact the Safe Environment Office at 305-762-1250. Below is a snippet from one of the Virtus program’s Protecting God’s Children online monthly bulletins. Dating violence, defined as physical assault or acts of bodily harm, including psychological and emotional abuse, verbal or implied, that take place in private or in social situations in teens is significant in scope with 85% of boys and 88% of girls revealed that they had been the victim of this type of aggression at least once in their current dating relationship. Psychological aggression often leads to physical aggression. Dating violence may be pronounced during adolescence due to the newness of romantic relationships for boys and girls and they may not be able to constructively cope with frustration, jealousy or other negative emotions. Many of these situations are also linked to cyberbullying where teens can exploit technology to cause harm to a romantic partner including abuse of monitoring or stalking through electronic devices access and even blackmailing or extortion with stored content. Electronic dating violence is a growing problem that requires more conversation and discussion with youth about what healthy dating looks like and what dysfunctional dating looks like.
