A Simple Act Of Kindness Helped Establish
And Define Danbrook Automotive.
About a year after John Danbrook started his business in 1990, he responded to an emergency by a Brampton couple who had been driving
through the area and broke down on Highway 3 near Tillsonburg.
Danbrook’s effort and service, not to mention his cheap bill, prompted the couple to write a letter of commendation headlined by “Friendly
Mechanic Made Sure Car Worked” that appeared in The Toronto Star.
The letter made Danbrook a local celebrity as dozens of people
dropped off copies of The Star to his shop.
“That was the single biggest boost to my business,” he said.
Danbrook was reminded of the episode when a friend of an old customer who died recently found a copy of the story among her effects and
presented it to him.
Going above and beyond every day service remains a tenet of his
business.
“I often help people out after hours,” he said.
That kind of service defines Danbrook Automotive.
“I treat people the way I’d like to be treated,” Danbrook said. “I’m fair
and honest and fix it right the first time.”
That approach has earned him legions of loyal customers from as far
away as Ingersoll, Woodstock and Aylmer. He even has a regular customer from Manitoulin Island who stops in when visiting relatives in
Langton for his oil changes.
His commitment and dedication has recently been acknowledged with
the Tillsonburg Chamber of Commerce’s Community Service Award.
“I didn’t even know it existed,” he admitted.
Danbrook isn’t in it for the recognition or making business connections.
His record of community service extends back before he was in business. A member of the Kinsmen Club since 1986, he is also an active Shriner and Mason, as well as coaching soccer. He also regularly contributes
to local fund raising projects.
The Danbrook tradition is being carried on by son Trevor, who is now
a licensed mechanic working at the shop and is also following in his

footsteps as a Kinsmen Club member.
Danbrook Automotive is a full line auto repair shop for all makes and
models of cars. His six bays and three other mechanics are always busy.
He has purchased property on both sides of his shop at 143 North Street
East for possible expansion.
Quality car repair is always in demand, especially in this era of concerns over emissions and the high cost of vehicles.
“People are fixing up their cars and getting rid of the junkers,” he
said.
And with Danbrook’s reputation for friendly, quality service, his business will continue to grow.
“My customers are my driving bill boards,” he said. “Word of mouth
is my best advertising.”
