Page 3 • 008 Visitation BVM AUGUST 14, 2016 • TWENTIETH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME Respect Life + “Consider how He endured such opposition from sinners, in order that you may not grow weary and lose heart.” Hebrews 12:4 The late Justice Antonin Scalia was passionate in his criticism of the Supreme Court’s decision in Planned Parenthood v. Casey. His statements were clear and succinct, “Roe was plainly wrong. …the best the Court can do to explain how it is that the word ‘liberty’ must be thought to include the right to destroy human fetuses is to rattle off a collective of adjectives that simply decorate a value judgment and conceal a political choice.” He knew, as we also know, there is only One Supreme Court. We live during an important time in human history that will prove our metal. The opponents to Life are working hard to discourage and tire us, but we know who the Victor is, we know the price He paid for us; despite the onslaught of confusing lies and misinformation meant to beat us down, we shall overcome the evil of abortion. Watch the bulletin and Archdiocese website, mark your calendar for ProLife activities. Be Passionate, Keep United, Become Informed, Prevent Weariness + ~40 DAYS FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN begins on Wednesday, September 28, 2016~ ~Archdiocese of Philadelphia Annual Walk for Life “Because Every Life Matters”~ Next Respect Life Meeting-Wednesday-August 24, 2016-7:00pm-Upper Conference Room In the Introduction to his book, “To Save A Thousand Souls – A Guide for Discerning a Vocation to Diocesan Priesthood”, Fr. Brett A. Brannen poses the following questions: + Does God want me to become a priest? How can I be sure? + How do I know if I have the gifts and abilities to be a priest? + How do I know if I am holy enough? + How do I know that I will be happy and fulfilled? Fr. Brannen unabashedly loves being a priest – “I have always loved it….. It is hard to imagine a better job in today’s Church than being a parish priest.” However he cautions, “But becoming a priest – and even discerning whether God wants you to pursue priesthood – can be a very difficult and uncomfortable process, even excruciating at times.” He says, “I have read many pamphlets and articles about priesthood, but I desired a single resource I could give to a man who was discerning”. Fr. Brannen saw this book when written in 2009, proclaimed the Year for Priests by Pope Benedict XVI, as confirmation of God’s will for him to author a compendium of “everything I would tell a man who is considering the priesthood”. He explained for those wondering why he chose the title “To Save A Thousand Souls”, “Only Jesus Christ can save souls….. But there is an old expression in the Catholic Church: He who saves a priest saves a thousand souls. It means that if a priest is in danger of leaving his vocation, and someone steps in to help restore his confidence in his priestly ministry, a thousand souls will be saved….. God uses the vocation of the priesthood very powerfully to bring people to Jesus and Jesus to people.” Over the coming weeks, we’ll share some of Fr. Brannen’s insights into the discernment of a vocation to the diocesan priesthood. PARISH VOUCHER PROGRAM " he entire people of God is responsible for promoting vocaT tions, and does so chiefly by persistent and humble prayer for vocations. The original deadline has passed and there are still a good number of families who have not completed the registration to date. It is “heartfelt sympathy for another’s distress.” Mercy is a generous readiness to help others even if they have brought their troubles on themselves. Even more, mercy is loving compassion that is willing to forgive insults and injury. Formed offers free downloadable books, Bible studies, audio presentations, meditations, video and movies with a Catholic focus and much more from which you can choose. Log on at: www.formed.org and sign up using your e-mail address and the Parish Code: RMCGFP (all capital letters) God is just, but we have the courage to ask him to help us in our misery and forgive us our trespasses because we know that he is “slow to anger and abounding in mercy” (Psalm 103:8). God does not treat us as our sins deserve, but invites us to repent and assures us of his willingness to forgive. Go to the section entitled for “Individuals.” Enter the Parish Code. Click on “Submit.” Then, follow the process to establish a profile for yourself. Enter all the data and set-up your personal password. Then, you are ready to participate. God bless you on this website journey! As disciples of Jesus Christ who is “Divine Mercy Incarnate, “ we have conidence in God’s mercy. Jesus fed the hungry, healed the sick, drove out demons, and raised the dead. He sought out sinners, ate with them, and offered them forgiveness and new life in his kingdom. In parables, Jesus taught that the Father’s mercy exceeds all expectations and is bestowed on the most unlikely candidates. Jesus’ words were conirmed by his deeds. The Son of God assumed not only our lesh, but our burdens, our pain, and our sins. He took our part and our place, and freely laid down his life on the wood of the cross to redeem us. He displayed the astonishing mercy of God who “did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all” (Romans 8:32). Jesus admonishes us: “Be merciful just as your heavenly Father is merciful” (Luke 6:36) -Sr. Sara Butler, MSBT Abbey Faith and Music Fest AbbeyFest has become one of the largest Catholic music fesvals in the Mid-Atlanc region. The Legion offers a program of prayer and apostolic service built upon devotion to and imitation of Mary. We meet on Mondays at 1PM in the Lower Conference Room of the Rectory. Come and see! Experience the Mystery of Christ’s love through Mary for you! Blessing for you and your family! MEN’S SCRIPTURE REFLECTION & FAITH SHARING: All men are invited to meet every Wednesday Evening 6:30PM to 8PM in the Lower Conference Room to pray the Divine Mercy Chaplet and Reflect on the upcoming Sunday Scriptures. For information, contact Keith Brown at 267-481-5169 or Bob Moore at 610-937-7533. ROSARY: Please join us as we pray the rosary for the special intentions of our parish family each Wednesday at 7PM in front of Our Lady of Life Statue. THE SECULAR FRANCISCANS: Attention Parishioners - Would you like to model your life with the simplicity of St. Francis? The Lay Franciscans meet on the 2nd Sunday of every month at 1pm in the Larkin Center. We would love to have you join us as we pray and study the Gospel way of living.
