Summer Thoughts
Do you realize how blessed we are in Visitation parish to have
this Adoration Chapel where Jesus is present in the Eucharist
24/7? At the Agony in the Garden, Jesus said to Peter “So you
could not keep watch with me for one hour?” Matt 26:40. Is
Jesus speaking to us also? To you? Jesus is your brother
and best friend. He never takes a vacation. Jesus loves you
unconditionally. Talk to Him about your hopes, troubles, concerns, and dreams. He is not only the perfect listener but the
perfect advisor. Stop in anytime—He will always be waiting
for you-and He means anytime! Perhaps scheduled weekly
visits might be even better. To sign-up for a specific weekly
hour or for further information, please contact us. Any one of
the 168 hours are available.
Some needs are:
Sun @ 3am, 4am, Mon @ 1am
Wed @ 1am, 4am, 4pm
Thu @ 1am, 9pm

Respect Life
+
“Consider how He endured such opposition from sinners, in
order that you may not grow weary and lose heart.”
Hebrews 12:4
The late Justice Antonin Scalia was passionate
in his criticism of the Supreme Court’s decision in
Planned Parenthood v. Casey. His statements were clear
and succinct, “Roe was plainly wrong. …the best the
Court can do to explain how it is that the word ‘liberty’
must be thought to include the right to destroy human
fetuses is to rattle off a collective of adjectives that simply decorate a value judgment and conceal a political
choice.” He knew, as we also know, there is only One
Supreme Court.
We live during an important time in human history that will prove our metal. The opponents to Life are
working hard to discourage and tire us, but we know
who the Victor is, we know the price He paid for us; despite the onslaught of confusing lies and misinformation
meant to beat us down, we shall overcome the evil of
abortion.

~40 DAYS FOR LIFE CAMPAIGN begins on

~Archdiocese of Philadelphia Annual Walk for Life
“Because Every Life Matters”~
Next Respect Life Meeting-Wednesday-August 24,
2016-7:00pm-Upper Conference Room
In the Introduction to his book, “To Save A Thousand Souls – A
Guide for Discerning a Vocation to Diocesan Priesthood”, Fr.
Brett A. Brannen poses the following questions:
+ Does God want me to become a priest? How can I be sure?
+ How do I know if I have the gifts and abilities to be a priest?
+ How do I know if I am holy enough?
+ How do I know that I will be happy and fulfilled?
Fr. Brannen unabashedly loves being a priest – “I have always
loved it….. It is hard to imagine a better job in today’s Church
than being a parish priest.” However he cautions, “But becoming
a priest – and even discerning whether God wants you to pursue
priesthood – can be a very difficult and uncomfortable process,
even excruciating at times.” He says, “I have read many pamphlets and articles about priesthood, but I desired a single resource I could give to a man who was discerning”. Fr. Brannen
saw this book when written in 2009, proclaimed the Year for
Priests by Pope Benedict XVI, as confirmation of God’s will for
him to author a compendium of “everything I would tell a man
who is considering the priesthood”. He explained for those wondering why he chose the title “To Save A Thousand Souls”,
“Only Jesus Christ can save souls….. But there is an old expression in the Catholic Church: He who saves a priest saves a thousand souls. It means that if a priest is in danger of leaving his
vocation, and someone steps in to help restore his confidence in
his priestly ministry, a thousand souls will be saved….. God uses
the vocation of the priesthood very powerfully to bring people to
Jesus and Jesus to people.”
Over the coming weeks, we’ll share some of Fr. Brannen’s insights into the discernment of a vocation to the diocesan priesthood.

IMPORTANT REMINDER for the beginning of PREP,
2016-2017
Prep sessions begin again on September 12, 2016 at
6:45 P.M. with a Prayer Service and Welcome Back
Meeting, as well as the opening class in school for
Grades K through TFF, following the Prayer Service.
September sessions are September 12th, 19th and
26th.
All students who have been confirmed and have been in
PREP are encouraged to continue by registering for the
Teen Faith Formation classes for Grades 7 and 8, which
also meet on Monday evenings at the PREP time.
Parents who have not yet registered their daughter(s) and/or
son(s) for PREP this coming Fall are urged to do so now.
The original deadline has passed and there are still a good
number of families who have not completed the registration
to date. There are several students who will be in the sacramental grades also; and their registration is not complete at
this time. It is also very important that first graders be registered because two years of religious education are needed
for reception of Reconciliation and First Communion. This is
also true for the reception of Confirmation. Please call the
Religious Education Office for information and to obtain the
form for registration. 610-539-6211 or 6080, ext. 112. You
may also e-mail Sister Diane Marie at:
[email protected].
Please note: Registrations cannot be accepted from September 1st through September 13th. This period is for office
planning and preparation for the students to begin their classes.
Anyone who is not registered in time must then wait
until after September 13th to be registered and included in class. The classes missed will be considered “absent.”
The DVDs for First Communion, 2016 ceremonies/Masses
as well as those for Confirmation have now been placed in
the Religious Education storage areas. Any parents who
would like to have the DVD and were unable to pick it up
during June at the Rectory may call the Religious Education
Office to make arrangements to pick it up individually.
(610-639-6211, ext. 112 or 610-539-6080, ext. 112)
Please check the Religious Education Website which is
linked to our Parish Site for pertinent information about
our programs and for a program calendar.
Registration is still open for students interested in
Visitation B.V.M. School for 2016-2017. Please
call the school for information and/or an appointment to register. The number is 610-539-6080,
ext. 111.
We encourage all parish families to consider the
gift of a Catholic Education for their daughters
and sons.
School students are reminded that , while it is still
Summer, September is not far away. Please remember:
1) Complete the required Summer reading for
the appropriate grade level.
2) Practice each day for a few minutes some of
the Summer suggestions which were sent
home or complete a few pages in your Summer workbook, if you and your family chose
one for you.
3) Practice the math facts from the previous year
and/or go on-line and practice some mathematical word problems.
4) Use some of the vocabulary words you
learned during the past year or challenge
yourself to learn a new word per day, either by
reading the newspaper on-line or by going to
Scholastic.com and finding some interesting
words.
Parents of Visitation Students for 2016-2017
are reminded to check the Parent/Student
Handbook on-line and review it during the
Summer. It is important that each family be
familiar with the contents of the Handbook.
Please also review the Summer suggestions
for student practice at home and use some of
them in order to keep your son’s/daughter’s
minds sharp and readied for the next year.
The Stationery needs list and Reading requirements are also on-line for your convenience.

Often people attend Mass at Visitation B.V.M. Church for several years, but do not register with the parish. Others delay registering
until they are asked to be a godparent or Confirmation sponsor, would like to have their own child baptized, or would like to schedule
a wedding or a funeral at the parish. Registering in a parish is a declaration of your desire to be part of a Catholic community. If you
are not currently a member of our parish and live within the parish boundaries, we invite you to consider registering with us and making a commitment to the life of Visitation B.V.M. Church. Register at the Rectory, Monday-Friday, from 9am to 8pm.
The Rite of Chrisan Iniaon of
Adults is the process during which

more about this process or any of our parishioners have a

invite them to call for more informaon. Perhaps there is
someone in our family who joins us for worship and would
like to complete their iniaon sacraments, the RCIA is for

Don’t miss out on the many
graces available during the
Jubilee Year of Mercy
What is mercy? It is “heartfelt sympathy
for another’s distress.” Mercy is a generous readiness to help others even if they
have brought their troubles on themselves. Even more, mercy is loving compassion that is
willing to forgive insults and injury.
Formed offers free downloadable books, Bible
studies, audio presentations, meditations, video
and movies with a Catholic focus and much more
from which you can choose.
Log on at:

God is just, but we have the courage to ask him to help
us in our misery and forgive us our trespasses because
we know that he is “slow to anger and abounding in
mercy” (Psalm 103:8). God does not treat us as our sins
deserve, but invites us to repent and assures us of his

As disciples of Jesus Christ who is “Divine Mercy Incarnate, “ we have conidence in God’s mercy. Jesus fed the
hungry, healed the sick, drove out demons, and raised
the dead. He sought out sinners, ate with them, and
offered them forgiveness and new life in his kingdom.
In parables, Jesus taught that the Father’s mercy exceeds all expectations and is bestowed on the most unlikely candidates.
Jesus’ words were conirmed by his deeds. The Son of
God assumed not only our lesh, but our burdens, our
pain, and our sins. He took our part and our place, and
freely laid down his life on the wood of the cross to redeem us. He displayed the astonishing mercy of God
who “did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us
all” (Romans 8:32).
Jesus admonishes us: “Be merciful just as your heavenly
Father is merciful” (Luke 6:36)

How to live it
This month, spend time prayerfully reading the Gospel
of St. Luke, placing yourself in each of the stories. Listen
to what Jesus says as if spoken to you and attend to his
actions as if addressed to you. Allow Christ’s presence
in the Word of God to transform your thinking and acting so as to more closely imitate Christ’s merciful love.
