Suspected robbers in court
THREE suspects arrested in connection with a robbery
appeared in the Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court on Monday
for bail applications.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel
Moatshe Ngoepe, Jean Pierre Potgieter was released on
bail while Karabo Lebea and Lisborn Nhlala were denied
bail.
Lebea and Nhlala robbed Potgieter of a large amount of
money on October 6.
He was on his way to bank the money and was robbed
in front of a bank in town. Police investigations quickly
revealed that he was in cahoots with Lebea and Nhlala,
and they were arrested the same day. According to
provincial police spokesperson Brigadier Hangwani
Mulaudzi, a significant amount of money was found in
their possession.
They also confessed to hijacking the vehicle used to flee
the scene.
They are facing charges of common robbery,
conspiracy to commit crime and carjacking.
The case was postponed to 21 November for further
investigations.
Former police officer arrested for fraud
A former police crime intelligence operative and
his female accomplice were arrested in Tzaneen for
attempting to steal more than R1,2 million from a Cape
Town businessman’s account last week.
Jack Mathiba (40), a former police officer attached
to Seshego Police Station and his female accomplice,
Doreen Thamaga (28) from Polokwane appeared in the
Tzaneen Magistrate’s Court for fraud on Monday.
They were remanded in police custody and their case
was postponed to Friday, October 24 for formal bail
application.
According to the police spokesperson, Brigadier
Hangwani Mulaudzi, the two suspects accompanied by
another unknown male suspect, approached the manager
of a known banking institution in Tzaneen with the
aim to transfer more than R1,2 million to two different
accounts.
The lady suspect was in possession of the account
holders fake identity document claiming that she had
signing powers.
“Unbeknown to the suspects, the manager contacted
the account holder who informed him that it was
fraudulent transaction.
The police were contacted immediately and the two
suspects were apprehended at the scene,” said Mulaudzi.
The third suspect escaped arrest and is still at large.

SAPS launch linkage programme
Police in Maake launched the school linkage
programme on Friday at Lenyenye Love Life
Centre.
According to Maake police communication
officer, Lieutenant Colonel Rufus Magoro the
purpose of the launch was to officially hand
over to the Department of Education a list of
police officials that are linked to schools.
Each school within Thabina, Lepelle,
Makutsu and Shiluvane circuit that falls
under Maake police jurisdiction is allocated
with a police official who will be responsible
for making sure that problems such a drug
and alcohol abuse, bullying, assault,
possession of dangerous weapons and any
other criminal offences are eradicated at
schools and proper attention is given to all
cases of that nature.
Magoro addressed the gathering and
officially handed over the documents to all
circuit managers in the presence of their
school principals.
“This initiative will ensure safety at
schools, and encourage responsible and
accountable policing in Maake police,”
said Magoro. He encouraged everyone to
work together towards the common goal of
eradicating crime by all means possible. The

Up to now, no one knows what happened
to the owner of the luggage.

Mangena is favourite to lead ANC in Mark Shope
The chief whip of the Greater Tzaneen
Municipal council, MaripeMangena is said to
be a favourite to be elected chairperson of the
African National Congress during the elective
conference of Mark Shope sub-region on
November 8-9.
Many in the ANC branches predict a
victory for Mangena. The nomination
of delegates to the elective congress is
concluding next week Tuesday.
Secretary of the South African Municipal
Workers Union in Mopani, Cromwell Nhemo
is expected to challenge Mangena for the
post. However, sources within the structures
of the ruling party are sceptical about
his chances of success in the race, saying
Mangena is the “overwhelming favourite” to
win the contest.
So far three of the names appearing
on the Nhemo’s slate will not be able to
make it to the conference after failing to
secure nominations. “A leader must inspire
confidence. If you are rejected by 51 percent
of the comrades in your branch, it therefore
says to us we can’t exert more pressure on
you by giving you more responsibilities.
“We believe that Mangena is one of
the kind of leaders required to lead a
revolutionary movement like the ANC at
the moment. He is a fearless leader and
very firm, but he remains in touch with the
people.
“In Mangena, we are talking about a leader
who is chairing a vibrant branch that has
always performed better that most branches
in the region. We are talking about a branch
that has also produced good results for the
ANC in the past elections. We are lobbying
for him and the collective with belief that
he will replicate the kind of leadership
at the level of sub-region, especially now
when faced with the 2016 local government
elections,” said a lobbyist for Mangena.
Mangena is the chairperson of Aaron
Mhlanga branch in the Bulamahlo Cluster,
and also serving in the sub-regional task
team of the ANC.
He was elected chief whip a month ago
following a decision by the ANC to redeploy
some of its members in the Greater Tzaneen
Municipality. He replaced Napoleon
Mboweni, the then chairperson of the
disbanded sub-regional executive.

Nothing motivates learners more than knowing they
have people cheering for them and who believe in them.
The Khujwana Education Circuit hosted a prayer
and motivational event last Thursday at Lenyenye
Community Hall for all their grade 12 learners. During
the ceremony they gave awards to students who
performed well in their academics and those who did
well in extra-curricular activities. Representatives
from Professional Educational Union (PEU) and South
African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU) delivered
messages of support to the learners. The circuit manger,
Willy Mohlatlole encouraged the learners to work hard
for the final exams. He added that they were giving
awards and announcing results before exams because he
wants them to work hard and see they can do it. Gavaza
Mhlarhi, Abdul Mayimele and Emily Shikwambana (in
absentia) were announced the overall best performing
learner in the whole circuit.
Senior Psychiatrist at Letaba Hospital, Dr Monica
Ndala was the motivational speaker. She delivered a
speech under the topic “Education: my journey to self
discovery and success”. Ndala told the learners to stay
focused and avoid distractions. “Look straight ahead.
Never allow your situation to discourage you,” she said.
The ceremony was a success and all learners went
home motivated to do better.

It is still not clear which team will win the
league in both the Super and Premier of the
Kaizer Letsoalo Games (KLG) Soccer League.
Although the Premier division race has
effectively been reduced to a two-horse
contest between Manamela Naughty Boys
and Leswika Classic, it is still difficult to
predict which of the two gallant sides will
snatch the title. Both teams won their last
encounters by a hard-fought slender 2-1
score line on Sunday.
The title in the Super division is likewise
still up for grabs, and is available for no less
than five teams. Rita All Stars, Mokomotji
Highlanders, Moime Liverpool, Mmaphala
Peter United and Napscom have a chance of
staking the coveted Super crown home.
However, it is not going to be an easy ride
in the park for any of these tough teams in
this excitingly eague.
The tension has reached such a boiling
point to the extent that it has spilled onto
the fans. An example in this regard is the
acerbic atmosphere at the Napscom ground
(Tickeyline) last Saturday when Napscom
hosted Mokomotji Highlanders.
More than three thousand loyal fans of
the KLG Sport crammed the modest sports
facility to witness this much-hyped-about
encounter.
Reports suggest that interest in the
fixture was so huge that some of the fans
had to travel from far-way places such as
Gauteng, Polokwane, Phalaborwa and Giyani
specifically to witness the game.
At interval the score board read 1-1.
However, all hell broke loose in the 82
minute when Mokomotji Highlanders netted
their second goal after a Napscom defender
miskicked a cross by a Mokomotji winger
and drove the ball in his own net.
Hundreds of the home fans invaded
the pitch and swarmed the referee, and
consequently forced him to abandon the
match.
It may thus be said that the committed
fanatics of the highly entertaining Super and
Premier divisions of the KLG Soccer League
went out in their thousands to various
sports grounds in many local communities,
including Lephepane, Khujwana, Moime,
Tickeyline and Mosoroni, to witness different
matches staged last weekend:

received a brand new soccer kit, courtesy of
Magoebaskloof Hotel.
The Bellvue Village, Bolobedu based team
which campaigns in the ABC Motsepe League
formerly, Vodacom, officially received the full
playing kit at Magoebaskloof on Wednesday.
Magoebaskloof Hotel’s General Manager,
Jacques Slabbert said the donation of a
soccer kit to Bellvue Winnerspark is part of
the hotel’s social responsibility initiative.
“The donation is a way of contributing
towards the development of football in
the country. We want to see the team
progressing and also developing players
which could end up playing for the national
team,” said Slabbert.
He said he was looking forward to a long
standing relationship with the team.
Team owner, Robert Mokgola thanked the
hotel management for their generosity. “Its
quite rare for a soccer team in the second
division to get support from businesses as
such as Magoebaskloof Hotel,” said Mokgola.
He thanked Magoebasloof Hotel
management for their contribution towards
the development of the team.
The team management and players were
very excited to receive the much needed
resources in the form of a soccer kit and
thanked the hotel for what they say is “the
contribution towards motivating players to
follow their dreams of playing soccer at a
professional level,”.

It is going to be fireworks at different
venues where the tough matches of the Super
division of the Kaizer Letsoalo Games (KLG)
Soccer League are staged in different areas.
The excitement will be bolstered by the
return to action of the current log leaders,
Rita All Stars.
