20 in court for public
violence and looting
Twenty suspects arrested following violent protest and the
looting of shops mostly belonging to foreigners in Maake area last
week appeared in the Naphuno Magistrate’s Court on Monday.
The suspects, aged between 13 and 55 appeared on charges of
public violence, malicious damage to property, house breaking
and theft.
Those too young to have full legal responsibility were released
into parental custody while others were granted R500 bail each.
Their case was postponed to April 30, pending further
investigations.
The area has since last week been plagued with protest actions
against the lack of service delivery.
The protests in Tickeyline and Rita erupted on Sunday March
30, when members of the community who were expressing
their dissatisfaction towards the lack of service delivery and the
shortage of water in the area, blocked roads, burnt tyres, pelted
members of the police with stones and other objects, looted and
vandalised shops mostly belonging to foreign nationals.
According to police spokesperson, Brigadier Hangwani
Mulaudzi, the protest actions spilled over into pure criminality
with people looting shops and stealing items such as groceries,
furniture, building material and electrical goods.
He said most of the suspects were arrested after they were

found to be in possession of the suspected stolen items.
Acting provincial police commissioner, Major General Berning
Ntlemeza, said that tracing operations involving members from
the Maake Police Station, Public Order Policing Unit as well as the
provincial tracing team and members from nearby police stations
have been underway since early Thursday morning and continued
throughout the weekend.
“The operations will still continue for some time and the police
will not rest until those responsible for these lawless acts are
arrested and put behind bars so that members of the community
can feel safe again,” said Maj Gen Ntlemeza.
Ntlemeza praised the community members, who supplied the
police with relevant information, which led to the arrests and
recovery of the goods.
“The co-operation that we received from members of the
community is a clear indication that not everybody is involved in
these criminal acts and that they are striving for a peaceful and
crime free society,” said Ntlemeza.
He further urged other members of the community to also
assist the police with their investigations to make sure that those
responsible are arrested so that peace can return to the affected
communities.

WARM UP: Lulekani United Masters getting ready for the tournamet at Lulekani Stadium last
Saturday.
Lulekani United:
The champs
It was all jubilation and smiles as Lulekani
United were crowned champions of the Top
Four Soccer Tournament at Lulekani Stadium
last Saturday.
Lulekani United took the crown after
beating Gijima Masters 4-3.
They received a trophy as their prize. In
the first semi final Gijima thrashed Lulekani
Masters 4-1 and in the second semi final,
Lulekani United Masters drew 3-3 with
Thulamashe Masters.
Meanwhile Lulekani United Masters
continued to pave their way up by beating
Thulamahashe Masters 4-2 on penalty.
Sam Shipalana congratulated the winning
team and said they were impressed by the
standard of the competition, which was
gradually improving on a yearly basis.
Lulekani Masters gave Thulamahashe a
free soccer lesson by walloping them9-4
during the losers final.
It was evident from the onset that Lulekani
United Masters were going to give Gijima
Masters a tough time as they took the game to
their opponents from the first whistle. Freddy
Nkuna was crowned man of the match.
Ishmael Rikhotso said they are taking the cup
for the second time time in a row.
‘Home ground advantage worked for us, we
are going to play at Thulamashe in August for
the same tournament and we will be ready,’
said Rikhotso.
They extended their gratitude to the
following
sponsors:
Fumani
Hlayisi
(Phalukgale Pharmacy), Dr. Mamaila,
Palabora Copper and Chas Everitt.
Kay Motsepe Schools Cup
to start soon
The 2014 Sanlam Kay Motsepe
Schools Cup, the biggest under-19
schools soccer tournament in
Africa, is about to get under way,
with the schools involved vying
for some serious prize money.
The tournament is now in its
tenth year and the funds that
will be allocated to the winning
schools at provincial and national
level are a whopping R3,4 million.
According to the organisers,
all the prize money must be used
to fund projects identified by the
school that will enhance their
pupils’ learning experience and
help the community they are
located in.
For example, last year’s
provincial
and
national
winners, Clapham High school
will be spending their R1,1
million winnings on building a
multipurpose life skills centre at
the school, and on furniture and
computers.
Registration
for
the
competition closed at the end of
March and the organisers, the
South African Schools Football
Association (SASFA) are busy
drawing up the fixtures for the
games at cluster level.
Once those matches have
been played, the winners
will go through to regional
playoffs, followed by provincial
championships, with the top
two schools from each province
going through to the national
championships.
The news is that all the
provincial winners from last year
have registered, so the big guns
are going to be battling it out
again this year.
Clapham are the reigning
champions and the school to

KLG league derbies
live up to expectations
The highly anticipated derbies in the two
divisions of the Kaizer Letsoalo Games (KLG)
Soccer League lived up to expectations last
weekend.
The gripping derby involving Leswika
Classic and Ramalema Cosmos at the
Ramalema ground brought the community
to a standstill as the marauding troops of
Leswika Classic humiliated the defending
champions by a whopping 4-0 score last
Sunday.
The man of the moment and danger man in
the camp of Leswika Classic, Tsietsi “Tsiye”
Sekgobela, netted his brace in the first stanza.
The Junior Maake-led infantry dazzled
the crowd that packed the Ramalema sports
facility until Louis Mngomezulu rewarded his
coach with a sizzling goal in the 75th minute
to cement the victory.
The fourth goal was scored by Mathata
Moloto in the 89th minute to end the weeklong speculations as to who is the boss of
Tickeyline-Motlhatlareng.
Thousands of football fanatics expressed
indescribable joy and excitement after the
match with phrases like: “Indeed, today, we
watched the real premier soccer in the KLG
League”.
The other breath-taking derby involved the
Moime-based sides, Moime Celtic and Moime
Liverpool, which had been at each other’s
throats since the beginning of the year.
Once again, the issue to be resolved was:
who is the boss of Moime? Thousands of
spectators crammed the Moime sports ground
to witness the proceedings meant to answer
this famous question. Moime Celtic proved to
be a serious force to be reckoned with after
thrashing their arch-rivals 2-0. Botha “Xavi”
Mashaba and Matome “Freddy” Makwela
scored the two goals.
There were other fascinating matches,
which produced plenty of goals in both the
Super and Premier divisions of the Kaizer
Letsoalo Games (KLG) Soccer League
played at different sports grounds in various
settlements in and around Tzaneen, including
Lephepane, Tickeyline, Bokgaga, Khujwana,
Rakoma and Tlhabine.
KLG Super League Results: On Saturday,
the fast-moving train of Rita All Stars had its
lights dimmed when the new-style Mmaphala
Peter United crushed them by a resounding
3-0 score. The new signings, Naphtally Butler
and Foster Mkhabela (brace), netted for the
colourful side of Peter Mametja.
In other matches played on Saturday:
Rakoma 2-0 Mahlogwe, Bokgaga Juventus 1-2
Khujwana Bagdad, GP United 1-5 Lenyenye
Gunners, Monatic 1-0 Napscom.
On Sunday, Mokomotji Highlanders
minced the hapless outfit of Bancock 7-0
at the Mokomotji ground. Bahlabine 3-2
Khujwana Classic, Moime Celtic 2-0 Moime
Liverpool, Mamogalefa 2-1 Carling.
KLG Premier League Results: In the battle
of the stars on Saturday, Lebaleng Shining
Stars were on the receiving end of the wrath
of Khopho All Stars when a 6-1 drubbing was
served.
Golden Aces, also known as “makhema a
Khaphamadi”, punished Bubs by a massive
4-0 score at the Nyekhetlha ground after
goals by Mabeja Vuma, Mpho Nelly, Jacky
Malemela and Mabu Mangena. Royal Celtic
also dished out a 4-0 punishment to the
struggling African Buffaloes, while Manamela
Nauhty Boys crushed Long Valley 2-0 at the
Manamela ground. The much-anticipated
clash between Mogoboya Junior Chiefs and
Mapantsula ended in a scoreless stalemate.
On Sunday, Lephepane Rovers revived
their performance with a massive 4-2
victory over Real Madrid at the Soccer City,
Lephepane ground. Hotbeans were too hot
for the lukewarm side of MM Super Stars at
the Topanama ground and predictably won
by a solitary goal.
Aces faces Mogoboya
this weekend
The exciting fixtures of the Kaizer Letsolao
Games (KLG) Soccer League roll out this
weekend at various sports facilities Greater
Tzaneen areas.
Football fanatics will again be treated to a
series of exciting matches under the auspices

A cherry on top in this array of mouthwatering fixtures is the prime Lephepane
derby involving age-old arch rivals, Mogoboya
Junior Chiefs and Golden Aces at the
Moruleng ground in Rasebalane on Saturday.
This is a Premier division clash.
Another premier Lephepane derby will see
Lephepane Rovers confronting Long Valley at

THE momager calls the police after receiving 300 daily
