Tess Gerritsen - Author Visit
Wednesday, October 2: 7:30-8:30 pm
New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen will discuss her life as a
writer and talk about the inspiration for her books, including the library's 2013
One Book One County selection "The Bone Garden" and the popular Rizzoli &
Isles series that inspired a hit TV show on TNT. Following the presentation will
be a Q & A and book signing. Books will be available for purchase from Barnes
& Noble that evening or bring your own copy for signing. This is a wonderful
opportunity to meet an international bestselling author. You don't want to miss
this event!
Gerritsen is a former physician and has been dubbed the “medical suspense
queen” by Publishers Weekly. Her books have been published in forty countries, and more than 25 million copies have been sold around the world. Now
retired from medicine, she
writes full time from her
home in Maine.
New York Times bestselling author Tess Gerritsen will give a
presentation and book signing at the Main Library on Oct. 2.

Join area residents by reading “The Bone Garden” or another book by our featured author
Tess Gerritsen. Check out a copy of the book or audiobook at the Main Library, Ossian Branch,
or the Northeast Indiana Digital Library (http://nidl.lib.overdrive.com).
About the Book — Present day: Julia Hamill makes a horrifying discovery on the grounds
of her new home in rural Massachusetts: a skull buried in the rocky soil–human, female, and,
according to the trained eye of Boston medical examiner Maura Isles, scarred with the unmistakable marks of murder
long ago... Boston, 1830: to pay for his education, medical student Norris Marshall has joined the ranks of local
“resurrectionists”–those who plunder graveyards and harvest the dead for sale on the black market. Norris now finds
himself the prime suspect in a series of grisly murders. Joined by a sardonic young man named Oliver Wendell
Holmes, Norris sets out to prove his innocence and track down a maniacal fiend--party of the dark mystery reaching
across centuries to the present-day world of Julia Hamill.

Thank you to everyone that participated in our 2013 Summer
Reading Program and a special congratulations to the 1,076
children, teens, and adults that completed the program.
With your help, we beat our reading goals set at the beginning
of the summer and as a group, lots of wonderful books were
read. Just how many?...
 Infants: about 150 of our youngest library patrons
completed a total of 2,512 activities.
 Kids: with exactly 1,250 children ages 3-grade 6
participating, the group read for 386,820 minutes.
 Teens: our more than 215 teen participants in
grades 6-12 read 472,158 pages!
 Adults: between the 391 adults participating, there
were more than 1,693 books read.
Wow! That's a lot of books! As a reward, younger children that
finished the program were entertained by Leonardo (below) at
the SRP party and
all other age groups
enjoyed parties of
their own.

Jim Tudor’s
Go-To for Mysteries
Jim lives in Bluffton and regularly visits the library because of
his love of books. Since retiring from the post office, he’s had
more time to read his favorite genre: mysteries. Jim takes an
unusual approach to his reading and is open to any mystery
novel, regardless of subject or topic. Basically, he started in
the “A” section of fiction and pulled any book with a mystery
label and continued down the line. Right now, he’s about half
way through to authors with a last name beginning with “M”.
Jim has found some “very interesting books” this way; one’s
he might never had discovered otherwise. Some of his
favorites include:
Authors: Lawrence Block and Elizabeth George
Free MP3 Music
There have been some exciting changes to our downloadable
music service Freegal, which allows you to download (and then
keep) 3 songs a week with your library card for free.
 Recently the content available has doubled to more than
7 million songs! Music videos are also available.
 There is a brand-new interface, new search engine, better
browsing options, and the ability to make wishlists.
 Now you can backup songs downloaded into the Freegal Music
app on your iTunes. Get the app on Apple and Android devices.
Check out this great service at wellscolibrary.freegalmusic.com.
Books: “The Sleepwalkers” by Paul Grossman and
“Manslaughter” by Parnell Hall. Though he’s not picky and
loves most mysteries!
Why he likes mysteries: the authors who write fiction
always have a “nugget of truth” to their stories, but the
books aren’t too detailed that they get boring to read.
TV Shows: Monk, Columbo, and anything with interesting
lead characters!
If you’d be willing to be featured “In the Spotlight,”
